dh has just left for a week back home with work . Also its raining, ds is still crying about missing daddy, ironing is meeting me at the door, cant see floor in dds room,... generally feeling sorry for myself. Opening a bottle of wine when Im on my own always seems wrong but I think I might have to tonight. The thought of all the goodies he has been instucted to bring back will help a bit too. If not, Ill just head to Target with the credit card!

dodgykeeper · 14/03/2008 18:52

How is the potty training going? Dont get yourself too worked up about it. Trying to do it before the kid is ready never works out well. My dd was reliably out if nappies before she was two but my ds was about 3 and still sometimes forgets a 5. I was surprised to learn that several children in his preschool class wear pull-ups although I suppose its good that there isnt the usual pressure to meet someone else's milestones. Two things that might help: I bought ds a potty seat and helped him customise it with stickers and markers. He loved that thing! Also, we had Pampers bed pads for nighttime. They are a square sheet made of the same stuff as nappies that protect the mattress. They were good because they didn't rustle or sweat like plastic/rubber sheets, they could be taken with us if we travelled, they could be put under the child in strollers/ carseats, and they were disposable so less washing! I dont know if you get them here but I would think there would be something similar.
Also, never underestimate the power of stickers when dealing with small children!

anorak · 14/03/2008 19:04

Oh yes the price of chocolate!

I bought 3 (decent sized) easter eggs, two medium sized Cadbury's bunnies filled with buttons and 4 bags of Cadbury's mini eggs.

How much do you reckon?

$126

UnderRated · 14/03/2008 19:53

Anorak. That chocolate had better be worth it.

Potty training ok-ish. No accidents since Wednesday, I think, so that's good. Ali is a big advocate of those pampers bed pads too - I must look into it. Might be good to put in the car seat, just in case. And stickers are great. In fact, I have worked with adults who had to do various homework tasks in order to get stickers. If ever the sticker box was forgotten they got very stroppy and demanded extras the following week

Anyone got any weekend plans?

anorak · 14/03/2008 19:57

This weekend I will be mostly lying around being waited on while I feel yucky from chemotherapy.

On the good side - yesterday's chemo was my last dose of the really nasty drugs - next time they are changing me to some drugs they say are much easier to tolerate

UnderRated · 14/03/2008 20:12

Oh Anorak, I'm glad this is the last of the yucky stuff. Any news on how things are progressing or will you not know til you've finished the entire course of treatment? Do you know how much longer it will take?

Scrap everything I said about potty training:

DS: (just now, from my bed) Mummy? I've got poo on my fingers

Me: Did you do a poo?
DS: No. I just got poo on my fingers.
Me: Where's the poo?

anorak · 14/03/2008 20:16

eeew!

One of those situations where you don't know where to start with the cleaning up, isn't it?

Nothing to report re progress, as this chemo is precautionary anyway - I'm cancer-free now as far as the surgeon knows. It's to halve my chances of a recurrence. It should take till about mid-May as long as there are no delays due to my being too ill to have the chemo.

Oh thanks Califrau. My cousin has decided to come over from England for a week in April and that has given me something to look forward to.

My main problem is that I'm on my own 60 hours a week and not feeling well enough to do stuff all day I get bored and fed up.

Are you guys serious about coming over here for a visit and if so what kind of time frame are we talking about? The weather should be excellent by May/June.

UnderRated · 14/03/2008 22:44

Is it 60 hours on weekdays or at the weekends too, Anorak? I would love to visit as long as court allows but it would have to be May/ June time because after that I'll run into Visa problems again.

Am glad your cousin is coming out. That should be fun.

jabberwocky · 14/03/2008 23:25

Oh, anorak, I'm glad you're almost done with the bad stuff. My pediatrician's son is also having chemo and she said they should be over the worst in 8 weeks. He's only 2

We have been loading the U-Haul all day and I'm cleaning the house in case they show it while we are gone this week. I'd loooove to come to Bermuda in June. Will have to time that conversation very carefully, though

mananny · 15/03/2008 03:21

((((((anorak)))))))) I hope you start feeling better v soon. FWIW I think you're doing an amazing job, staying good humoured through what must be challenging (to say the least) times.

I too would love to come to Bermuda but the damn visa I'm on won't let me leave the country (til I have time to go back to London and get a reentry visa from the US embassy there). So my beach holidays will take place in Maine. Oh joy But if you want an MSN buddy I'm always looking for excuses not to study, just CAT me

I had a stressful day and have just drank half a litre of Baileys. It had no effect, or so I thought, til I stood up to go to the bathroom. Suffice to say I'll just have a glass of water and put myself to bed.

Wholefoods guy is lovely btw. I just don't want to let my imagination run away with me. Three weeks emailing and one very nice phone conversation does not an LTR make. But he does want to go out for brunch on Sunday and I said yes. [peeing myself like a 5 year old girl who gets a pony for her birthday emoticon]

mananny · 15/03/2008 03:23

BTW UR I had to laugh about the poo on the pillow incident. Sorry! Your ds sounds so cute. Maybe I should set him up with my lil lass?
(although my bosses might want to check he's from good pedigree LOL)

PavlovtheCat · 15/03/2008 03:24

Can I temporarily join in? I am here for a while, well to be honest two more weeks, already been here two, but hey, when in rome!!

mananny · 15/03/2008 03:26

mananny · 15/03/2008 03:28

yikes no idea how that happened

PavlovtheCat · 15/03/2008 03:28

my life is currently sitting here with a glass of red while my husband and his brother smokes and my sister in law is putting daughter to bed.

Where in USA are you mananny?

PavlovtheCat · 15/03/2008 03:29

Fridays? they the same as any other day right? children to bed then mn then sleep?! hahaha!

mananny · 15/03/2008 03:29

How are things in the Big Apple? Can I be nosy and ask what you're doing there?

mananny · 15/03/2008 03:30

I'm in Boston.

Fridays to me mean one more sleep til a lie in

PavlovtheCat · 15/03/2008 03:31

I have spent a weekend in NY, two weeks in California, and now in NY again for another two weeks, plus the clocks have changed, and I dont know which way is up!!

PavlovtheCat · 15/03/2008 03:32

Boston! We were going there tomorrow, but the lads could not agree on whether to go to Boston or Washington, so we are going to Philly.

?

I stayed in bed until 10am today, but it did not feel like a lie in! it felt like the middle of the night! Or the afternoon, not sure which!

mananny · 15/03/2008 03:32

I'm a nanny so am in the privileged position of raising someone else's bubbas whilst not losing more than 5 or 6 nights sleep a month. It's fabulous
