Persuade me on Boston. I cant find much in philly. but its closer and we can do a day trip instead of a weekender...

mananny · 15/03/2008 03:34

Ooooh Boston is amazing you guys should have come up here!!!!! There's nowt in Philly is there?

PavlovtheCat · 15/03/2008 03:35

oh nice!

my 20mth old is great, and sleeping well, she is adjusting ok to the changes in time, more than me. We have just taken to putting her to bed when we think she is tired, rather than when her routine says.
She had a nap today 4-7!!!, went out for dinner, to bed at 11pm. She should sleep for the night, fingers crossed. Has been poorly too.

How long you been in Boston?

PavlovtheCat · 15/03/2008 03:36

Thats what I thought, but family think its a good idea...
think it originally spun from the thought of us going to Atlantic city so the girls babysit and the lads go to bars and casinos. Was not a popular idea...

I am sure we will change our minds again. Or rather others will.

mananny · 15/03/2008 03:37

Boston has beautiful old buildings (I mean older than the 1980s) and is small enough to walk around. There are great malls and shops. Incredible restaurants. It's on the river so is pretty. I love living here (and before I came here I thought Chiswick was gorgeous) and would highly recommend it as a really nice city to visit. Plus there's an amazing historic nearly as good as the real thing pub at the end of my street.

mananny · 15/03/2008 03:38

I've been here 2 years now.

Kids are great, they can pretty much survive anything, it's the adults that have all the problems lol.

PavlovtheCat · 15/03/2008 03:38

that on its own sounds goof to me!!

I hope we come to Boston. We almost just got in the car and drove there this evening, but I have not had a shower since my flight from SFO yesterday and 4 hours in the car would not have been pleasant for others!!! rofl!

mananny · 15/03/2008 03:41

Well it's getting warmer lol, you could have just cracked the window!

(By warmer I mean it's been above freezing for a couple of days.... positively balmy in these here parts)

PavlovtheCat · 15/03/2008 03:45

the weather is mad over here, I know that us is so big but its weird to get used to, went from snow in NY went we got here to having to buy more teeshirts and sun screen in LA! It was so warm in CA we did not take our coats our of the closet at family house we were staying in, and when we left for san fran then NYC without our coats, and it was to late to get them!

Luckily I left a winter coat in NY! Its actually quite nice here right now. but I am prepared for cold. jumpers, hats, snow suit for baby!

PavlovtheCat · 15/03/2008 03:46

I agree about the kids. DD has been really sick and still laughing and smiling, we get lost in San Fran for half hour and it all goes to shit!

mananny · 15/03/2008 03:50

That's the hardest thing about living here. In winter it takes so long to get the bubbas ready to go outside, and then they can only spend 15-20 mins outside anyway cos it's too cold!!! Then of course they get cabin fever being stuck indoors, so we go to all the local museums and aquariums each week. Luckily Boston has fab places to take toddlers. But I still can't wait for spring and summer. Kids need outdoor time, in the fresh air, to keep sane. As do I!!!

PavlovtheCat · 15/03/2008 03:51

sounds great. It was actually too hot in LA for my little one at some points, I had to make sure she was in the shade. But thats mainly because we are used to such cold weather in UK!

mananny · 15/03/2008 03:53

I travelled round Italy, France and Switzerland a few years back with my best friend. We travelled for 10 weeks. After 10 days we could have killed each other LOL. We both miraculously survived the experience and she now lives in Oz and I live in the US and our friendship has never been better hahahahahaha...

Travelling brings out the best (and by that I mean worst) in people.

mananny · 15/03/2008 03:55

I didn't like LA when I went. Too busy, like NYC, and the people are fruitloops. They've definitely spent too much time in the sun there.

Bostonians are more civil and less psycho. (sorry to any Californians out there, just speaking from my own humble experience)

PavlovtheCat · 15/03/2008 03:56

have experienced that already! Mainly staying with family. It was not disastrous, but could have been better, did not get to do half the things we wanted to, and then half the family got sick so that did not help. But I love California. Its fantastic. I especially love Sausalito (sp?) which I would given the million dollar view of SF!

However, on the other hand, NY seems more...down to earth and I feel quite at home walking around here in the neighbourhood, although its a bit rustic!

PavlovtheCat · 15/03/2008 03:57

The discussions of moving over having been banded about as we have family here in NY and California.

I think, we are erring on the side of either eveyone movimg to California (brother in law in IT) and us too, or we will spend at least a month a year over here.

PavlovtheCat · 15/03/2008 04:00

I am off to bed now. Thanks for the chat, hope we make a good decision about Boston tomorrow!!!

Maybe talk soon?

mananny · 15/03/2008 04:02

I went to Hawaii last year and when we flew from SF the view of the golden gate bridge was incredible. I wished I had my camera to hand. I have only experienced LA and Santa Ana and San Diego and briefly San Fran. But my overriding memories are of the crazy retired people in Disneyland. And the guy on the Greyhound bus from Vegas who said unless we gave him $250 he would call his boys in Anaheim to do us over when we arrived. Not my fondest memories...

But I cannot fault New England. The scenery is amazing, the beaches are an hour away as are the mountains, there are 4 proper, distinct seasons, the people are lovely. It's great

mananny · 15/03/2008 04:09

Enjoy whatever you decide to do, and thanks too for the chat

If you do come to Boston, head for the Warren Tavern tomorrow night, I'll be the only English person in there

Hi Pavlov - I wondered where you ended up going. My vote would have been Boston but DC insinteresting too.

Mananny, all your talk of New England has made me slightly homesick - I never thought I'd say this, but I miss it
