Right-ho, we've been discussing this elsewhere but thought a seperate thread may be useful.

Concept was to have a sprog and non sprog meetup

Sprog - aquarium, thus far I think the best day was Monday, I know there are a lot of you 'popping' back to the UK back can we still manage May? I for one have no plans EVER.

Non sprog - Opera bar for a Saturday lunch again? When? First I could do is May 16.

Anybody fancy an (early) evening thing, also up for debate is the possible hunter valley trip? (thumb to be in charge)

I've just PMd you my mobile no. thumb - I'll probably get there for 1 or a bit before.

bunnygirl80 · 06/07/2011 10:21

I'm all excited now. I'll probably aim to get there for 12:30ish.

thumbwitch · 06/07/2011 10:37

That's when I'm aiming for as well, bunny, trains allowing.

I've just been informed that I should be getting off at Town Hall, not Central (thanks sunnyD!) except that I've just checked and my train doesn't stop at Town Hall, it goes straight from Hornsby to Epping, so can anyone tell me, which is a better plan, change at Hornsby(11:33) or change at Epping (11:42)? So, depending on the connection, and how far it is from Town Hall station to the restaurant place, that's when I'll arrive. Grin

SunnyD, that was a VERY well-timed text you just sent me - gave me a chance to get this post right! Wink

Eralc · 06/07/2011 12:29

Fab - will be there (with DS2) about 12.30ish. Will pm you my number Thumb. I'll bring DS2 in the sling, to avoid lack of lift problems.

Not sure it would make much difference going via Epping or Hornsby Thumb - I would think there are probably similar numbers of trains in from both. Have you tried it in 131500 to see what they say?

thumbwitch · 06/07/2011 12:54

oo no, I haven't - is that an info line on trains? I'll call it in the morning, thanks!
Got your PM, will text you in the morning as well :)

Eralc · 06/07/2011 12:57

It's a website - 131500.com.au - it's fab - lets you type in your start and finish locations, and tells you how to get between them/how long it will take (it covers buses, trains and ferries). Has prevented me getting lost many times!

sunnydelight · 07/07/2011 00:40

If you change to the North Shore Line at Hornsby thumb I think it's a bit more direct, but as Eralc says the route planner website will give you your best options (oh, and it will also tell you about any planned works on the line - better go check it myself!)

thumbwitch · 07/07/2011 02:32

Ha. Have just looked at the rail map and see the problem. It is actually going to be easier to go straight into Central and then on to Town Hall from there, because the line I come in on circles round through Epping and Strathfield, rather than going straight down like the North Shore line and approaches Central from the other direction. But it doesn't stop at the little stations so it's probably still going to be quicker than changing at Hornsby and having to stop loads of times before Town Hall. I tried the route planner, and it said Central and then on to Town Hall, so that's what I'll do. :) Which gets me to Town Hall at about 12:20, so then it's however long it takes me to walk from there and I'll see you then!

ninedragons · 07/07/2011 06:50

Have I missed the address of the place we're going?

thumbwitch · 07/07/2011 06:56

Edinburgh Castle Hotel is where we're going, Ninedragons - on Pitt Street, corner with Bathurst Street. I'm taking it on advice that Town Hall is the nearest station!

thumbwitch · 07/07/2011 07:00

Hmm. I have had a look at the map - it is not at all far from Town Hall and I have just realised that I have to pretty much pass the QVB to get to it, so I might come up on the earlier train so I can go shopping first.... Grin

abithormonal · 07/07/2011 07:29

Town hall is spitting distance, but central is close too, probably end up taking as long walking as changing platforms and waiting on trains, if it's shopping you want, go to St James walk through DJ, into the new westfield through myer and into the QVB all without taking more than a breath of fresh air, it is a route I perfected being pregnant in the heat and wanting nothing but aircon

OP posts:
ninedragons · 07/07/2011 10:12

Town Hall is the closest - there is an exit that pops you up one block away from that. Follow the signs for Woolies and then it's one block east (ie stand with Town Hall at your back).

ninedragons · 07/07/2011 10:19

Central Station is seedy and it's quite a long walk uphill from there.

thumbwitch · 07/07/2011 11:57

It is a touch seedy, I'll give you that, ninedragons but it also has Basement Books, which I love! Grin

ThumbsNoseAtSnapewitch · 09/07/2011 11:25

oh for the love of God!!
I really don't think I'm going to be able to come tomorrow, I am so sorry - DS isn't well, it was just a cold but now he is running a temperature while saying he's cold, and he has a horrible chesty cough. Although I am currently ok, I'm probably harbouring his germs and therefore am going to bow out so I don't accidentally contaminate you lovely ladies, especially as some of you have really shiny new babies who really don't need a bug.

So :( and sorry - I hope you have a lovely time together and have a glass of something for me!

Those of you who sent me your mobile numbers - did you also PM bunnygirl or abithormonal?

Am very Envy now of your lovely lunch, was so looking forward to it but it just wouldn't be fair to any of you for me to turn up.

abithormonal · 10/07/2011 00:50

Thumb, sorry to hear that, and hope you all feel ok too, you'll have to pop over to the inner west for lunch sometime, and hopefully we can pencil in the aquarium today too.

well I'm off as I plan some window shopping, yay

abithormonal · 10/07/2011 00:51

oh i have my cup and flag and don't think I'll look like too much of a wierdo

sunnydelight · 10/07/2011 01:55

Oh good abit, the only phone number I have is thumb's so I did have a slight "how the hell will I find them" moment when she texted me to say she couldn't make it. Wandering round tables asking "are you abithormonal" might get me some strange responses Grin

ThumbsNoseAtSnapewitch · 10/07/2011 02:50

! I have sent you abit's mobile number, sunnyd - hope that helps [hgrin]

ThumbsNoseAtSnapewitch · 13/07/2011 04:25

Hope you all had a lovely time on Sunday! We are still under the weather so I think it was a good decision for me to give it a miss, would have been really sad if I'd passed it on to anyone else. Good news though - DS is starting to improve, coughing less (only woke once last night, instead of many times) so I think we're nearly through it now.

Have you all decided on an aquarium visit date?

bunnygirl80 · 13/07/2011 10:09

Glad to hear you're on the mend. Meet up was good fun - we should have them more often!!

Aquarium visit was discussed but no date set. I think we decided that Thurs would be the best day, but abit and I are busy for the next 3 Thurs arvos on a course we both randomly managed to sign up for. So I assume we're aiming to do it sometime in August.

ThumbsNoseAtSnapewitch · 15/07/2011 02:45

awww shame, won't be able to do Thursday as = DS's dance class in the afternoon. :(
Will have to find some other day to come in and meet up with some of you! And then another day to meet up with the others of you!

In the meantime, I will be in Sydney on Wed 27th July for a 1:30pm osteopath appointment - I like to come in earlier (around 11:10) so if anyone fancies meeting up somewhere closeish to Central (the osteo is just up the road from Central so I don't go too far), let me know!

bunnygirl80 · 16/07/2011 23:57

I'm back at work on Wednesdays now, so I won't be around unfortunately.

We did also discuss Friday as an alternative day for the aquarium, but it's a bit tricky with various of the babies having their swimming lessons that day. I'm sure DS won't suffer too much if he misses one though, especially if it's so he can meet his Aunty Thumbwitch Grin

ThumbsNoseAtSnapewitch · 17/07/2011 00:55
Grin It looks like I may be brought into Sydney by DH on that Wednesday now - we were going to go away this week but circumstances have conspired against us so now we're looking at going away next week instead, and DH said we can come back via Sydney, he'll drop me at the osteo and go and fetch his Irish passport from somewhere else in Sydney then come back and fetch me, so my plan to meet anyone for coffee is kaput! never mind, I'll be back in about 6w. But it will be a wednesday again, cos it's the best day for me to do.

Bunny, are you working more locally now?
Friday would be perfect for us to come in for an Aquarium visit - do you get a swim lesson break at all?
