Anyone else planning going through embryo transfer in January? Would love to hear from others on this journey.

We last did an embryo transfer in July 2022, which was unsuccessful and had a previous two transfers, one unsuccessful and one resulting in miscarriage. As those were our only embryos I've been through 2 ECs this year and now have 8 euploid embryos! It's been a long journey and I'm very hopeful for this next transfer 🤞

Hi @botsytots I'm sorry to hear about your difficult journey so far! 8 euploid embryos sounds very, very promising though 😊fingers crossed that your next transfer is the one 🤞🏼

I should be having an FET round mid January, depending on my cycle because it will be a natural FET. It's my first FET... I've had 2 fresh transfers, the second in Sept 2021 resulted in my son and 2 frosties so this is our first attempt at a sibling. I remember all the feelings as we waited for it to work for us, so I hope that's not triggering, but it would be great to have this thread for company as we prep xxx

Hi @beachbum85 Great to hear from you and very exciting that you're also planning for a Jan FET! Looking forward to staying connected whilst we go through our FETs. I am meeting my consultant on 5th December so should know the plan then Smile

Hello :)

I have just had a fresh transfer fail but have one in the freezer so going to go with that one next. My clinic said to call on the first day of my next period but as that is predicted as 21st December I am going to go with my January one instead which will be around 16th January.

8 euploid embryos is amazing @botsytots!

This will be my first FET so any tips much appreciated.

Hey @Hopingforno2in2024 my fingers are crossed for your next transfer! I would love to hear any tips people have too. I've heard about mcdonalds fries on transfer day and pineapple core during the tww but not sure how much evidence there is behind doing those things. For me I am just going to try to keep as stress free as possible and eat healthily. Are you trying anything different for the next transfer?

Hi All,

I've just had a failed fresh cycle and have 1 embryo in the freezer.

Never had a FET either and have no clue how the cycle works.

I've been told I'll have a follow up with the clinic in a few weeks then make a plan from there. So assuming and hoping January.

Wishing you all the luck ❤️

HopefulHead · 27/11/2023 20:48

Hey 👋🏼 would love to join 🥰
I did my first EC in March, no fresh transfer due to OHSS. Did a natural FET in July this year which failed so trying a controlled transfer in Jan with one of our 3 remaining Frosties ❤️

Hopingforno2in2024 · 28/11/2023 07:43

The main thing I am going to focus on @botsytots is less stress. I did not cope well with stimulation and egg collection. Was having panic attacks and all sorts which I can’t imagine helped! I’m hoping the simpler process of a FET will enable me to relax more and give my frostie the best possible chance.

I have read about pomegranate juice and pineapple and can’t see that they would do any harm although I suspect they don’t actually do anything.

We are in the exact same situation. I am so sorry that your fresh just failed

TTCRose · 28/11/2023 08:29

Yes @Hopingforno2in2024 we are pretty much in a similar boat.

I'm so sorry for your unsuccessful transfer this time. Huge hugs!

botsytots · 28/11/2023 20:34

So sorry to hear about your previous failed transfers @Hopingforno2in2024 @TTCRose @HopefulHead - I know how hard it can be when it doesn't work and you have to wait around for the next transfer. Wishing you the very best with your next transfers and so glad to be able to chat to others on this journey 🥰

@Hopingforno2in2024 the whole ivf process can be so stressful. I found the first transfer particularly stressful and the second one that resulted in the pregnancy I miscarried I definitely felt less stressed. Look after yourself and prioritise your well-being ☺️

Hi everyone and sorry to hear about the failed transfers - really tough and very often underestimated, I find. Keeping my fingers tightly crossed for good news all around in the new year!

I think I'll try do the McDonalds fries, pineapple core, and pomegranate juice... I'm very much in the camp of trying anything that could help. I had also drank a beetroot, watermelon and ginger juice, which I did not enjoy but I guess no harm in that either. I'm debating whether to do more acupuncture, as it's expensive and time consuming, but I find it very relaxing and I think anything that reduces stress must be a good thing!

Hopingforno2in2024 · 05/12/2023 10:53

How is everyone doing?

Clinic just called. We have an appointment on 12th December to do all the paperwork and then will get going late Jan/early Feb

HopefulHead · 05/12/2023 10:57

Hey @Hopingforno2in2024 ☺️

We’ll be similar timeframes 😁

We have our paperwork signing appt on 29th December then hopefully get going on next cycle in Jan; so transfer will hopefully be beginning of feb 🤞🏼

This is my first medicated transfer as I tried natural last time so not sure if that will add to the timescales at all!

Hopingforno2in2024 · 05/12/2023 11:04

Yay so exciting @HopefulHead. This will be my first FET and from what the nurse said on the phone it will be medicated.

HopefulHead · 05/12/2023 12:29

@Hopingforno2in2024 I regret not doing medicated for my first one to be honest, and feel like we wasted our best embryo :( so as much as I’m not looking forward to injecting and being pumped full of hormones again, I am feeling hopeful we will have a better chance of this one working 🤞🏼

botsytots · 05/12/2023 15:33

Hi @HopefulHead @Hopingforno2in2024, great that you both have your appointments booked and know the plan 😊 I spoke to my consultant today and he's booked me in for 8th Jan and planning to start the process when my Jan period arrives. He's recommended natural protocol and my previous 3 transfers were medicated. @HopefulHead I'd be keen to hear your thoughts on the natural protocol and pros / cons

OP posts:
HopefulHead · 05/12/2023 18:09

@botsytots I chose to do natural as I had OHSS from EC so was reluctant to put hormones in me again and my periods had always been regular. But then since EC they have been a bit all over the place, when it came to the FET they couldn’t decide if I had ovulated or it was a cyst and my surge came later than expected but they just went by that and transferred 5 days later which would have worked out 5 days before my period would be due if it was a ‘regular’ month. I felt like they should have cancelled but they just were kind of like ‘we’ll try and see what happens’. That was the last bit of my nhs funded treatment so I just kind of went with it but wasn’t really surprised when it didn’t work, but as we will be paying private costs going forward I think I’d find it easier to stand up for myself.
if my periods were still regular I think I would try natural again but it just feels like too much of a risk to me and too much money to lose if my body doesn’t behave as it should again 🫣

HopefulHead · 05/12/2023 18:09

@botsytots How did your previous medicated transfers go?

botsytots · 05/12/2023 22:16

@HopefulHead sorry to hear about the bad experience you had with your natural FET. It sounds so haphazard from the clinics side 😞I'm going to give it a go as I do like the idea of less hormones but if it doesn't work then I'll definitely go back to medicated.

My medicated cycles were fine as I don't really mind the injections / medication and I don't remember the symptoms being too bad. Sadly only one of the medicated cycles worked and that resulted in miscarriage so I think that's why my consultant is keen to try a natural FET this time. I'm also trying prednisone as I tested slightly high for NK cells

OP posts:
HopefulHead · 06/12/2023 06:41

@botsytots I totally agree, I would definitely try natural again if my cycles went back to being normal, as less hormones surely has to be better, but then I do think it’s so hard to predict what will and won’t work isn’t it, which I guess is why the clinics try different things.

im so sorry to hear about your miscarriage, that must have been absolutely heartbreaking after it worked initially 😞

Sorry, what is prednisone? I’ve not heard of that.

botsytots · 06/12/2023 07:32

@HopefulHead prednisone is a steroid that reduces immune reaction. If you have high NK cells then the embryo could be fought off by the immune system. My consultant doesn't really believe in it but I've pushed to try it this time as I've heard of others with high NK cells having success with immune treatment so thought there can't be any harm 😊

HopefulHead · 06/12/2023 10:58

@botsytots Ahh ok, well anything that may help is worth trying I think!

Lebe14 · 08/12/2023 19:09

Hey. Hope okay for me to join!

I'm (hopefully) having my first FET in January. Was due to transfer December but timings didn't work due to a dodgy cycle and the Xmas cut off ☹️

Have all my meds ready to go and fingers crossed things go to plan this time for a baseline scan 1st or 2nd week of Jan.

How's everyone feeling about their transfers? As it's my first, I can't wait to get started - naive of what 😂 X

HopefulHead · 08/12/2023 19:40

Hey @Lebe14 👋🏼
This will be my second FET but first controlled, last was completely natural.
Interested to know which meds you were prescribed & how much they cost as we don’t have out appointment until 20th December so unsure what to expect!

Ccp7 · 09/12/2023 07:43

Hi all,

I am on 9dp5dt currently on a FET transfer but I’m getting BFN so I know this has failed.. therefore will be doing my 2nd transfer in January.
Not looking forward to all the meds again but will do anything!
