Hi all, I’m day 2 of my first ever ivf cycle starting injections tomorrow. I wondered if anyone else was in the same position. Thought it might be nice to buddy up if people would find that helpful. I’m the only one in my friendship group going through this and as lush as they all are I don’t think they truly understand xx

I’m not entirely in the same boat as you as I’m waiting for my second attempt which I hope will be in a few weeks but wanted to wish you all the best. IVF is such an emotional, rollercoaster ride but try to stay stress free and positive throughout. Good luck :) x

RoseLlo · 06/10/2022 14:49

Hey @SH998@SH998and @Nobabyyet20. There are a bunch of us over on 'IVF cycle Sept/Oct 2022' if you want to join us 😊
Hope the injections are going okay so far @Nobabyyet20 and hope you don't have too long to wait @SH998 .

I had my egg collection Tuesday so just waiting to see how many make it to day 5/6 and then they'll be frozen. You'll see all this on the other thread so hope to see you both there!

Spink2022 · 06/10/2022 17:10

Hi it’s my first round too and in think we’re on pretty much the same day. Im doing short protocol and I started my injection yesterday.

im 28 and the only one of my friends who has been through this too so can empathise with you there. Most of mine don’t have any idea about the process or what it entails as much as they want to support me.

we could be cycle buddies? What protocol are you doing?

Nobabyyet20 · 07/10/2022 17:22

Hi @RoseLlo ah thanks so much I’ll check that out do I just look for that thread?
thank you so much @SH998 i hope you don’t have too much longer to wait, the waiting is horrible.
@Spink2022 im on short protocol too! Your a day ahead of me I took my 2nd injection today. but would love to be cycle buddies. I totally get the friend thing it’s very difficult. X

Hi there . I’m on my second cycle . First fet failed for us . And since it was the only blastocyst that I had I’m back to stimulation injections now . I’m on day 7 of injections

Spink2022 · 07/10/2022 18:50

@APSR hey! Sorry your first round failed and you have to start again. That must be so tough. Have you had any scans yet?

@Nobabyyet20 how are you finding the injections? Any side effects yet?

i feel like me and my OH really found the rhythm of doing the injection tonight without any panicking or drama! So feeling quite proud tonight and treating ourselves to chocolate!

what medication are you both on?

APSR · 07/10/2022 18:57

Yeah baseline scan before starting medications and then one on wed . So far 11 follicles . I’m on clomid / gonal f and meriofert. Also started frymedal today. So 3 injections in a day 😢

IVFing84 · 07/10/2022 19:29

Hello ladies!

I also started my injections yesterday 🙂 I’m actually really surprised that I could inject myself. It’s great that you’re finding it fine too @Nobabyyet20

I’m using EMLA cream to numb the area, applied 1h before the injection (Fostimon & Meriofert)

Any advice on how to rotate the areas of the tummy to inject? xx

Nobabyyet20 · 07/10/2022 20:00

@APSR so sorry your first cycle failed. Hope your okay. How are you finding the injections the 2nd time?

@Spink2022 ive had a headache but other than that I’m okay. I’m on overleap (fsh) and will take fyrmadel on Tuesday. Have you had any affects? I can’t inject myself get too shaky so my OH does it. I do feel calm doing it though which is good. Enjoy the chocolate!

@IVFing84 your on the same timing as me 😊 glad you can do it yourself didn’t know my hand was soo shaky! I’ve just been switching sides so far on my tummy.

APSR · 07/10/2022 20:06

Stimulation injections are fine till now . Till yesterday it was 2 per day from today it will
be 3 everyday till my trigger shot which is tough as I take all on my tummy . I do it myself . Even in my first cycle I managed to do it fine .No major side effect. Im
a poor responder so my main worry is how many mature eggs will I get this time . Last cycle had 10 follicles but got only 3 eggs and 1 blastocyst 😢. Next scan on Monday so will get an idea how things are progressing.

Spink2022 · 07/10/2022 20:07

@IVFing84 youre amazing injecting yourself!! I got some numbing cream today which is why I think it was much smoother! Im just switching sides on my tummy atm too. im not sure about doing it on my thigh. My stomach is much fattier 😂

@Nobabyyet20 being calm will
make so much difference. im on the same meds as you. 375 units of ovaleap and 25ml of fyrmadel. My mood has been really really up and down. And I’m soo tired but maybe that’s the stress.

Spink2022 · 07/10/2022 20:10

@APSR 3 is a lot! Amazing you’re doing it yourself. You’re much stronger than me! Did they say why you’re responding poorly? They’ve suggested they think I will respond poorly too and not produce many follicles and eggs. It only takes one good one! fingers crossed for good news for you Monday

APSR · 07/10/2022 20:16

I have low Amh and endometriosis so that’s the reason for low follicle count . And empty follicles we don’t have any control over it so don’t know why even after having 10 follicles I got only 3 mature eggs last time. Hoping this cycle will give a better number of mature eggs and blastocyst.

Nobabyyet20 · 07/10/2022 20:28

@APSR sending you so much baby dust and hope Monday goes well! You are amazing at doing it yourself!

@IVFing84 yeah I’m just going to stick with my tummy, I’m so thankful for my love of carbs this week! 😂

@Spink2022 yeah that’s the same as me I’m only on 150 as they think I’m quite likely to over respond and get OHSS. My first scan is Tuesday, when is yours?

OP posts:
Spink2022 · 07/10/2022 20:37

@Nobabyyet20 my first scan is Monday and then weds. On my base scans I only had 4 follicles on my right ovary which is the one with the disorder and 11 on the left. I’ve also got stage 3 endometriosis which has damaged both of my Fallopian tubes and my OH has sperm issues so we’re also having ICSI.

I’m hoping I respond better than predicted so I can get to the EC and ET quicker! I’m so impatient. The TWW is going to be be looonnnggg

Nobabyyet20 · 07/10/2022 20:58

@Spink2022 ah okay wishing you lots of luck for your scans. My scans are Tuesday and Friday. They’ve told me I’ll have to wait 2 months till the embryo transfer as I’ll have to let my body calm down 😣sending you baby dust xx I don’t really know how mumsnet works but feel free to keep in contact x

OP posts:
Spink2022 · 07/10/2022 21:20

@Nobabyyet20 oh really? That’s going to be a long wait for you but it’s best to do it when you’re really healthy and in the best position! Wishing you all the luck. Let me know how you’re getting on.

I think we will be notified if anyone messages on this thread

Nobabyyet20 · 09/10/2022 08:25

How are we all getting on? Day 4 of injections for me. My scan is on weds not Tuesday 🤦🏼‍♀️ Already convincing myself I haven’t responded as I expected to feel a lot more hormonal by now my only side effect is headaches currently x hope you’re all okay x

APSR · 09/10/2022 08:40

Just took my 3 injections. Done for the day . Got scan tomorrow to chcek on the follicles. Had 11 in my last scan hopefully all are growing well.

Spink2022 · 09/10/2022 09:52

good luck at your scans!! I started my second injection today. It stung so much and is all bruised! I’m knackered. They’re hitting me hard. I’ve got my scan tomorrow so interested to see how it’s going.

hopefully you see more tomorrow @APSR!

@Nobabyyet20 i don’t think there’s a correlation between side effects and progress. I think people are just affected differently. Try and stay positive. Only a couple of days until you’ll find out more

Nobabyyet20 · 09/10/2022 10:04

@APSR good luck for your scan! Hope it goes well!

@Spink2022 thanks lovely, your mind just wanders doesn’t it! Looking forward to my scan on weds. Sorry to hear yours stung and your really tired. My main side effect has been more headaches than usual.

what are you guys doing about work? I’ve had this week annual leave but go back on Monday and tbh I’m torn between it’ll be a distraction and it would just be nice to have another week off while I’m doing this!

OP posts:
Spink2022 · 09/10/2022 10:10

Hopefully the headaches will ease when you get used to the meds?

ive been working as normal still. That’s probably why I’m so tired! It is a good distraction but also really tiring. Are your work supportive? Do they know about your IVF? I think if they’re supportive it makes a world of difference. I’ve only been in my job 4 months and my managers been incredible I’m very lucky

Nora11 · 09/10/2022 11:02

Hi everyone! I am also on my first round of IVF and will be starting injections tomorrow. Like you @Nobabyyet20 I am high risk for OHSS so starting on a low dose. Have they said you will definitely have to wait 2 months? I've been told it's a possibility but the plan A is to do a fresh transfer.

IVFing84 · 09/10/2022 12:14

Hello ladies,

Just back from my second scan and blood tests to find out if I can start with the second injections tomorrow. Then I’d have 2 more scans Wednesday and Friday.
Side effects are being night sweats and some pain similar to period pains but milder so not too bad so far, fingers crossed!
The plan is to do the egg collection on the 17th and a fresh transfer all being fine

@Spink2022 Sorry to hear that your second injection stings, are you using numbing cream? Great that you work place is supportive. I have also been working as normal but I’m having a meeting with work tomorrow. I’ll tell them about the treatment and I’m hoping to be able to have some needed flexibility. I believe that working from home could be a good option, also helps to shield in preparation to egg collection all going well.

@Nobabyyet20 Might sound silly but are you drinking loads of water? I feel that might help with headaches but then again everybody reacts different.

@Nora11 I’ve bought EMLA cream over the counter. I apply it 1h before the injection and it really helps, barely feeling them. Advice that I’ve been following has been pinching tummy fat firmly before injecting to separate the fat, pinching slightly with the needle to find the least sensitive area, release pinch once needle is in place and once all the liquid is in count to 5 before taking the needle out so that the meds don’t come out. Best of luck!x

Spink2022 · 09/10/2022 13:00

@IVFing84 hey! That’s great that they’ve given you a potential date for EC! Gives you something to aim for. I’ve been using tattoo numbing cream which definitely helps with the needle but my morning jab burns and itches from the medication and goes red and bruised. Aparantly common with that one. The nurse did warn me about it. It dropped after about 40 mins and is just bruised now.

i hope your meeting goes well tomorrow. It will make such a difference if they’re flexible. I work in a hospital so I’m wfh as much as I can and we’re isolating in our personal life.

@Nora11 good luck with your first round! Take it easy is my best advise at the moment!
