Is anyone starting ivf in March/April?
Have had confirmation today I will be starting treatment in March. Been prescribed norethisterone, which I have to take CD21 of my next period (due next week).

@Donimo I have never had bureselin but for my last cycle I used menopur and fryemadel didn’t find the injecting that bad apart from the first couple of days on fyremadel it was red and itchy but then stopped. I really was expecting the worst as I’ve always hated needles but yeah after the first I was fine. Although I couldn’t watch it go in haha I would look where I’m placing it, close my eyes and shoved it in whilst I took a deep breath. I know some people use numbing cream but I have no experience with that.
I say that it was all fine but I’m still crapping myself about the injections even though I know they aren’t that bad haha

Donimo · 17/02/2021 19:03

Thank you for the reassurance and top tips @elsaesmeralda and @Alexm06. Yes its my first IVF round. I'm sure I'll be fine and don't have a fear of needles or anything. Just also have to remember each day to do it at the right time!

Alexm06 · 17/02/2021 19:28

@Donimo I’m the same I forget everything but I have an alarm at 7pm to take my vitamins so I would just inject then and when I went onto a morning injections I set an alarm for then as well so yeah I never forgot

Hazza2021 · 17/02/2021 19:39

I start my buserelin on Sunday, although I have been through this once before I’m still feeling really nervous about it all. Not so much the needles just the numbers of follicles etc. How is everyone feeling about it and when is everyone starting?

Narwhal88 · 17/02/2021 20:35

@Hazza2021 I'm starting norethisterone on 2nd March till 11th March, baseline scan on 16th. I'm not sure when I start injecting yet, I assume it's CD2. I will be on menopur and fyremadel so interesting to know @Alexm06 I had heard fyremadel was a bit stingy!
I'm nervous about getting the injections right but not scared of them. I'm still not sure if I'm going to do them myself or not. I want to give it a go I think.

Alexm06 · 17/02/2021 20:59

@Narwhal88 it’s goes after a couple of days I found. I am going to be on menopur and fyremedal again this time but a higher dose of menopur which I think is good as I know what to expect with them.
I would try the first few then if your still struggling may have to get someone else but i you should be alright if your not scared of them. The menopur you need to just put the 2 solution syringes into the powder vial then the draw from the vial each time and the fyremedal is already prefilled so would just need to inject.

Narwhal88 · 17/02/2021 21:21

@Alexm06 thanks that's helpful to know. I think I'm going to be on quite a low dose but I have my nurse consultation on Tuesday so hopefully will find out then.
Sorry to see about your cyst, that is so frustrating, I hope it goes soon for you.

Margwit · 17/02/2021 21:24

@beachbum85 hey yes thankfully the pain subsided overnight and I’ve actually started my bleed today so I’m assuming it was just that starting although completely different to normal period pains. Anyway I’m feeling a lot happier and relaxed again today

Margwit · 17/02/2021 21:42

@lucymills1234 hi there thank you it’s so nice to hear from others who have gone or are going through it. Sorry to hear about your BFN end of last year, really hope it works out for you this time, try and think of that as your trial run and this time it’s going to pay off !!!
Great advice about taking the test day off, I’ve tentatively booked 2 weeks off from egg collection as I thought I may as well take the whole block as I have so much holiday carried over but hadn’t thought about test day, whatever the result I doubt I will be able to concentrate on work....hopefully because I will be too excited!
Good luck with your stims, really hope you get a good crop! xxx

beachbum85 · 20/02/2021 08:48

Good morning everyone! How are you doing?

@Donimo do you start today? If so, good luck and let us know how it goes :)

Donimo · 20/02/2021 09:09

Hi @beachbum85, yes did my first bureselin injection this morning, thanks for remembering. It was fine, apart from pricking my finger and bleeding everywhere! Didn't hurt and just have a small red lump at injection site now, which I guess is normal??!

Your starting tomorrow aren't you? How are you feeling?

A question to all of you that have gone through this before I know you need to do the injections the same time each morning. I am guessing it doesn't need to be exactly the same time and 20 mins or so wouldn't make a difference??

beachbum85 · 20/02/2021 09:57

Glad to hear it didn't hurt @Donimo!

I start on Monday and I'm pretty excited! Generally feeling good but I keep dreaming that I've done it wrong or at the wrong time or something... So I'd say that subconsciously I'm a bit worried :D
But I'll set some alarms and I'm sure it'll be fine once I get started

Hazza2021 · 20/02/2021 10:58

@Donimo I start buserelin tomorrow but have already had one round before. I’ve been told to take mine between 6-8pm but as long as you take it roughly the same time everyday it doesn’t matter too much. I think even an hour would be fine.

Good luck to anyone else who is starting in the next few days. I can’t believe how quickly it has come around now!

ForeverHopeful17 · 20/02/2021 11:31

Good morning ladies, I hope it's okay to join.

This is going to be my first cycle and I'm super excited but super nervous at the same time. I will be starting noreistherone on 28/02 for 10 days and will start stimming on CD2 of my next cycle with egg collection provisionally booked for 26/03.

I'm super worried about egg collection as one ovary is stuck behind my uterus and potentially inaccessible which means potentially less eggs. However I'm trying to stay positive.

Good luck ladies x

Narwhal88 · 20/02/2021 18:31

@ForeverHopeful17 hi 👋🏼 our dates are very similar! I start norethisterone on 2nd March till 11th, egg collection around 29th. My medication is being delivered on Tuesday, starting to feel real now! How are you feeling? It's also my first round.

Donimo · 20/02/2021 18:51

Good luck tomorrow @Hazza2021 and for Monday @beachbum85 let me know how you get on.

Hi @ForeverHopeful17 nice to hear from you. The nurse struggled to find my ovaries on my scan so I'm a little worried about this too. Is there a reason your ovary is stuck in that position? How you feeling?

elsaesmeralda · 20/02/2021 18:58

Good luck all the ladies starting in the next few days and well done @Donimo first one is the hardest!

ForeverHopeful17 · 20/02/2021 20:40

Hiya @Narwhal88 👋🏾 I'm so happy that we have similar dates. My Noreistherone is being delivered on Tuesday but I haven't purchased the rest of my meds yet as I'm shopping around for prices. I noticed we're also on similar medication as I'll also be using fyremadel and menopur alongside final-f. I'm super excited but also super nervous. I'm not too good with injections but the part I'm dreading most is all the waiting as I suffer with anxiety. How are you feeling about it all?

Hiya @Donimo 👋🏾 yes my ovary is stuck due to a fibroid I have (how annoying!). Was this your first scan or have you had scans previously where your ovaries have been visible? Either way, I'm sure you have nothing to worry about as ovaries are mobile so are not always visible on scans and as your follicles begin to grow they will become much more visible. I'm nervous but excited at the same time. How are you feeling now that you've started injections?

Noirberry19 · 21/02/2021 01:44

Hi everyone. How you're all doing ok. Good luck to everyone starting soon 🤞🏼

@ForeverHopeful17 @Narwhal88 you're similar dates fo me too. I'm starting norethisterone on 3rd March for 8 days with egg collection expected around 29th March!

Donimo · 21/02/2021 18:28

@Hazza2021 how did your first injection go? How are you feeling this evening?

Thank you @elsaesmeralda, have you got a date for your FET yet?

@ForeverHopeful17 I hope the fibroid doesn't impact your treatment too much. I had a general scan at my local hospital which was interpreted by my GP about a year ago which my GP just said everything was fine. Then had an assessment scan at the fertility clinic and the nurse struggled to find my ovary, but this was at the end of my cycle so guessing they are not as obvious around this time too. This is my first IVF cycle so like you say things will be different during treatment. I also never realised your ovaries are not attached to your fallopian tubes until I had an ectopic, didn't teach me that in A level biology!!

Narwhal88 · 21/02/2021 19:07

@ForeverHopeful17 I'm feeling excited but also anxious that something won't go right and I won't respond properly or my lining will be too thin! It's out of your control so much it's scary! It's great we and @Noirberry19 are all going through this at exactly the same time though! Especially with nearly the same protocol. We can go insane waiting together! I'm not that nervous about the injections, just the waiting like you say, I also suffer with anxiety sometimes.
Oh also I have heard Asda is the cheapest place to get ivf medication, they don't charge on top of cost apparently. I'm NHS luckily so mine were just free from the clinic.

Hazza2021 · 21/02/2021 19:38

@Donimo Hi it went okay apart from my hands shaking. I feel alright at the moment I’m glad the first one is out the way though. Did you do yours? How did it go?

ForeverHopeful17 · 21/02/2021 21:04

Yay @Noirberry19 another cycle buddy. Honestly, this thread has made me feel a lot less alone as DH and I have decided to not tell anyone we're doing IVF.

Thank you @Donimo fortunately I've been reassured that my fibroids are not in the way of anything and are not causing any trouble (apart from dislocating my ovary) I also did A Level biology and was never once told ovaries aren't connected to our fallopian tubes lol. I was so surprised by this I had to check google images. I also never knew our tubes floated about! I'm sure both your ovaries will make a grand appearance once you start stimming.

@Narwhal88 I think that's what I'll struggle with the most, the fact that it's all out of my control. I actually popped into Asda earlier today to get an idea of prices for medication, they asked me what size needles and how many I would need and I didn't have a clue!

Donimo · 21/02/2021 21:11

@ForeverHopeful17 I am not sure about your clinic. But at mine (and going private) they gave me all the needles, syringes and sharps box I needed, must of been included in the cost of the treatment. When they gave me a prescription for the medications they advised me on the cheapest place locally to get these from. So worth checking exactly what you need.

Glad it was ok @Hazza2021, yes I am now 2 injections down!

beachbum85 · 22/02/2021 09:28

Thanks everyone for wishing us luck, just got the first one done! A bit of a play as the second needle wouldn't go on, so I think there's a tiny bit less than the planned dose inside me, but it wasn't as bad as I thought :)
Glad yours was OK yd too @Hazza2021

I also got a big bag of needles and syringes, and a sharps box, with my meds (on NHS). We're not on the same treatment @ForeverHopeful17, as I'm on Buserelin and then Gonal F, but I counted 25 of everything (1ml syringes, long needles and short needles) - not sure if that's helpful at all.
