August IVF

Hi there,

Anyone else doing IVF this month? I’ve had 2 weeks of Buserelin, and just started the oestrogen tablets today. I’ve never known time to go so slowly before. 😬😂

FET planned for end of August.

I’ve been a hormonal wreck. Got AF this weekend, plus all the extra hormones, and the other half doesn’t know what to do with me - or himself! Ha Ha.

Would be nice to connect with others going through IVF at the moment. x

Oh CatRen. I’m so so sorry. How absolutely crushing. Sending enormous hugs your way.

Do look after yourself my lovely, and take time off work to deal with the physical/ emotional side effects.

It may be way to early, but have you given any thought as to when you might have another shot? It must be comforting to know you’ve got lots of Frosties, even if things didn’t pan out this time.

I have my scan on Tuesday, so I suspect I may be joining you very soon. For what it’s worth, I think we’re going to take a break from everything until the end of the year, perhaps transfer my remaining frostie in January (although it was of very dubious quality so I doubt it will stick) and then go into a next round of IVF in March/ April. I’ll be 37 by then so although egg quality wasn’t an issue this time around (albeit that I didn’t get half as many eggs as I’d hoped) I really don’t think time is on our side.

Thanks cariad I really appreciate that. It's been a tough couple of days. I'm going to speak to my specialist tomorrow. I think we'll try again next month but I'm a bit concerned there's something else wrong as my embryos shouldn't have the chromosomal issues that cause cp so maybe my womb isn't as hospitable as they think it is. Ive managed to fall out with my mum today as well - I told her what happened and she replied "oh well", then changed the subject. Thank goodness dh is supportive!

I'm sorry you're concerned about your scan and really really hope it turns out well and I don't see you here again! In the nicest way possible. Wishing you so much luck xx

Cariad2017 · 07/10/2018 11:17

Sorry you’ve fallen out with your Mum CatRen. Do see what the specialist has to say. In your shoes, having another roll of the dice sooner rather than later sounds sensible to me.

For what it’s worth, all my incessant researching suggests that cps and miscarriages do happen following PGS normal transfers, so you may just have been very unlucky this time around.

CatRen27 · 07/10/2018 11:47

Thanks cariad, that's interesting to hear. I'm not good with unknowns.

I think it makes sense, if things don't work out, if you need a break until the new year, you can focus on Christmas and get started afresh. I really hope you don't need to restart at all and all is well at the scan. Has your specialist said anything about what they think?

StillLikeAirIRise · 07/10/2018 15:47

Catren that's awful news, I'm so sorry to hear this - I've kept an eye and have been rooting for you. I understand the need for you to have another cycle planned to give you hope though that makes perfect sense.

Cariad I'll be thinking of you Tuesday, praying you don't get the result you expect.

I'm taking some time out, I'm truly exhausted by this and my experience wasn't anything close to yours in terms of heartache. I've got the planning appointment for the FET on the 25th Oct, but it will be the new year before I can psyche myself upto another cycle. Nobody wants to face a negative at Christmas after all. I've started by making an effort to build a life outside of having a baby in the next 12 months - booked a holiday, started running training again and this week I've gone for another job at work. It's more responsibility, more money and exciting. Not what I would have put myself up for a few months/weeks ago but I really need to remember myself in all of this and really start to limit the hold that it has over my life.

Hopefully we'll all find peace whatever the future holds

Cariad2017 · 07/10/2018 17:18

Thank you for your kind words CatRen and StillLike. I haven’t spoken to the fertility clinic about my first scan (as it was done at my local NHS hospital instead), but Tuesday’s scan is at the fertility clinic so we’ll see.

Taking a break until the new year sounds eminently sensible StillLike. IVF and long term ttc can be such negative processes, you sometimes need a break for your own sanity. Good luck on the new role - that sounds super exciting. I really hope you get it.

Cariad2017 · 09/10/2018 15:26

An update from me. I hope this doesn’t come across as insensitive given what some of you are going through. Had my scan. Having expected the worst, all was actually fine; there was a heartbeat and measurements are in line with dates. I have a tilted uterus, which may have explained the earlier scan.

I’m very conscious that we’re nowhere near out of the woods yet, but it’s good news for now. Planning to book a Harmony test and scan at around 10 weeks, assuming I get that far, so that’s the next hurdle. Xx

Catren · 09/10/2018 23:57

Congratulations cariad that's such lovely news! You must have been so relieved that it's all going well. One more hurdle jumped! Keep us posted please 😊

Cariad2017 · 10/10/2018 06:50

Thank you CatRen. 💕

StillLikeAirIRise · 10/10/2018 07:53

Such good news cariad you must be so relieved xx

Thund4rcat · 10/10/2018 15:23

Congratulations @Cariad. It is encouraging to see when things go well for people. It gives me hope.

I have spoken to my consultant and have to have three surgeries in one (hysteroscopy, laparoscopy and polyp removal) before I can do IVF again. So I'm on the waiting list for surgery which should be done by the new year. So hopefully I can do IVF again in Jan/Feb.

Good luck to everyone still going strong and for those who it also didn't work for this time, perhaps I will see you on the boards again around Jan too.

Cariad2017 · 10/10/2018 18:15

Thank you for your kind words StillLike and Thund4rcat.

I’m glad you have a plan in place for next steps Thund4rcat. Good luck with the surgery. I hope you manage to get it all sorted soon so that you have plenty of time to recover ahead of your next shot at IVF.

Catren · 11/10/2018 00:06

Hi thund4r I've had the surgery you're booked in for (including the polyp) so if you had any questions, I'm happy to help with my experiences. Do you have endometriosis? Apparently after the surgery studies have shown the injury to the womb can actually help with implantation. So you'll be in prime fertility mode hopefully after that 🤞🤞

I've just had a meeting with my specialist and she was really surprised it hadn't worked first time, and thinks my goddamn endometriosis is to blame as it's clearly an implantation problem. She's giving me an endometrial scratch in 2 hours (!) which studies have shown can help with implantation. Then we'll be good to go this cycle, and she'll give me a blood thinning injection to help things along.

If that doesn't work she thinks there might be something more sinister at work like an incorrect immunology response or something. In a way I'm feeling vindicated that there is actually a problem being identified and hopefully addressed.

Cariad2017 · 11/10/2018 08:00

CatRen - Glad to hear that you’re good to go again this cycle. Here’s hoping the scratch and the injection do the trick. Rooting for you.

Thund4rcat · 11/10/2018 17:47

@catren thanks that's really interesting. They suspect endometriosis due to me always having agonising period pains, and bleeding around ovulation, but it isn't diagnosed as I haven't ever had a laparoscopy before. I'm not too worried about the surgery, just want to get it done.

Interesting they told you endometriosis could cause implantation problems. They told me that with ICSI endometriosis didn't make any difference. That's why they tried my first ICSI round before even looking into the possibility of endo. I think I should have pushed for the lap first but we are where we are anyway.
