Top of the waiting list appointment

DH and I have been TTC just over 3 years now. We've had all the preliminary workup done at our small local hospital (HSG, scans, bloods, SA) followed by 6 months of clomid, which didn't work.

At our last post-clomid followup appointment in July we were told the next stage would be referral to James Cook for assisted conception and that we should call them to make an appointment.

When I called, we were immediately offered an appointment for the end of August. I assumed it would be some sort of booking-in/eligibility check and we would then get put on a waiting list for treatment. But i've had all the documents through in the post now, and it turns out it is our 'top of the waiting list' appointment! I'm now a bit excited at the thought that this may all be happening sooner than I thought, but also worried that there has been some kind of mistake/misunderstanding. Are waiting lists not as long as I thought now? Does anyone know how quickly I am likely to move onto treatment? Or what the likely sequence of events will be?

@hoping1 what medication are you currently taking from them if you don't mind me asking? Fingers crossed they keep us all updated! X

Hoping1 · 22/07/2020 15:00

Hi love they put me on metformin as when I went to start treament i had scan I was on long protocol. The scan revealed 50 foilices so change protocol to short and told to start metformin from that date and be on till treatment xxx

I was put on metformin at the ACU ages ago but after the ovarian drilling they never said to continue taking it and when mustafa asked what medication I was on he never mentioned about taking it again so I'm haven't and I'm due short protocol too hopefully they don't turn round last minute and say to start taking it again it was awful for the first few weeks 🤢 might actually give them a call about it and just ask because if I need to start it again with having PCOS then be best to start now while we are just waiting around to save any more delays. X

Rang hospital again today as they hadn't got back to me about metformin. After sorting it as must have forgot I rang. I said have you heard anything from risk assessment. She said it be going in soon .I then said well one of your colleagues had said it already gone in last week she said that was the plan but sorting bits out for it. She said we already up and running fet and hospital very happy about us starting up and soon it will happing. I wish when ringing they would all say the bloody same and have dates but all I got was soon xxx

Aw thanks for the update... sounds like they’re slowly but surely getting somewhere... glad FET has started that means we’re next!

Nattx · 01/08/2020 00:22

Thank you for the update! I'm due my August cycle in couple of days and the last time I rang I was told to ring back on that cycle if I'd not heard anything from them so no doubt I'll be giving them a call and I'm crossing everything for it to go ahead this cycle but will let use know either way if none of us hear anything before then. X

Hoping1 · 02/08/2020 20:36

I hope you get good news fingers crossed for you xxxxx

Mw050389 · 03/08/2020 07:59

Ohhhh let us know what they say when you call 🤞🏻 Hoping for good news! I had a traumatic experience at a baby shower at the weekend ... deffos learnt my lesson about going to them! X

In the situation we are in a couldn't imagine going to anything worse especially more so now with playing the waiting game again. I do try and see the positives of them and think this will be what I've got to look forward too but it's not the same when there is always doubt in the back of your mind whether it will work or not. When I found out my other halfs brother was pregnant he was over the moon but I just couldn't, deep down I was happy for them don't get me wrong but my jealousy got the better of me 🙄 xx

Nattx · 03/08/2020 11:26

I rang not long ago it's still basically the same thing as before, still waiting to hear back from the risk assessment they submitted last week.. They're on doing frozen transfers atm and said it should be very soon they will start fresh if the risk assessment gets the go ahead. X

Hoping1 · 03/08/2020 12:06

Fingers crossed your next cycle is the one. I be ringing Thursday as due on so if hear different will let you know xxx

Nattx · 03/08/2020 14:21

Yeah hopefully by Thursday they have news back on the risk assessment. Got my Metformin sorted too, the nurse said it's personal choice but the advantages of taking it are so much better than not taking it especially with having PCOS. Got the slow release version this time round so hopefully they aren't as bad on stomach. What mg are you on atm? I was on 1500mg, 1 tablet 3 times a day before I stopped taking them x

Hoping1 · 03/08/2020 14:32

I dont have PCSO that I know of just said I had over 50 follices so need it helps with few things. I am on 1000 a day I been on slow release they been brill as long as I take on night. Nurse has sent me the normal ones finger's crossed they ok on my tummy. I so hope we get dates soon this waiting is getting more and more horrible xxx

Mw050389 · 07/08/2020 11:18

Anyone have any more news? X

Hoping1 · 07/08/2020 12:01

Rang today with period been teary after phone call differnt woman and she said see if everyone in hospital agrees. I said spoke to someone eles and they said soon. She said I am not saying that as you sound disappointed and I dont want that so cried since spoken to her feel like we getting no where soon and doesn't help that I am on . Wish they would all say the same. I said i ring back next month but not holding out any hope xxxx

Mw050389 · 07/08/2020 12:23

It’s an absolute joke... feel like we’re the only clinic in the country now!! X

Hoping1 · 07/08/2020 12:26

I just said that to my partner i understand the situation was out there hands but they should have communicated better with us xxx

Nattx · 07/08/2020 12:46

I rang 2 hours ago too with them telling me to ring back on my August period months ago.. Spoke to someone who wasn't a nurse and said she would get a nurse to ring me back, still haven't yet.. Is it possible to move to another clinic after funding has been approved already? X

Hoping1 · 07/08/2020 19:48

@Nattx did they get back to you love. I dont know about funding we all signed to xxx

Nattx · 09/08/2020 00:09

Sorry for the such late reply, they did at 5:30 so hours on end later and I was at work so couldn't answer. They did leave a voicemail basically saying the same thing about awaiting on the risk assessment and that they have no further update on fresh transfers and to ring back next week if I needed to speak to someone x

Hoping1 · 10/08/2020 14:23

You never know we might hear somthing soon xxxx

I’ve been chatting to a girl who has an appointment this week to sign all the consent forms and discuss her treatment etc so hopefully will get an update from her this week x
