Top of the waiting list appointment

DH and I have been TTC just over 3 years now. We've had all the preliminary workup done at our small local hospital (HSG, scans, bloods, SA) followed by 6 months of clomid, which didn't work.

At our last post-clomid followup appointment in July we were told the next stage would be referral to James Cook for assisted conception and that we should call them to make an appointment.

When I called, we were immediately offered an appointment for the end of August. I assumed it would be some sort of booking-in/eligibility check and we would then get put on a waiting list for treatment. But i've had all the documents through in the post now, and it turns out it is our 'top of the waiting list' appointment! I'm now a bit excited at the thought that this may all be happening sooner than I thought, but also worried that there has been some kind of mistake/misunderstanding. Are waiting lists not as long as I thought now? Does anyone know how quickly I am likely to move onto treatment? Or what the likely sequence of events will be?

Hi ladies,

I have just stumbled across this thread by complete accident, I was referred to James cook back in October from Hartlepool, we have had tests all done Hartlepool but haven’t had any appointments at James cook yet apart from the information event in the 12th which we attended! My parter gave another sample yesterday for our Top of the Waiting List appointment on the 28th of Jan I have no idea what to expect and whether I’m going to have to go through all the tests again!

Sort of what I was expecting then... we’ve already done all this at Hartlepool so I’ll probably be repeating everything again I would imagine 🙈😫 this is the third sperm sample my partners done I know he’s fine. I was put on thyroxin for a while and pessaries which didn’t work. All really frustrating hope you get your scan soon and everything gets moving quickly for you, that would be great thanks! Xx

We have our top of the waiting list appointment on the 4th Feb at JC, I've seen alot of people have had initial appointments before this for tests but we haven't? We did have alot done at the ACU before being referred to JC so that maybe why? My partner had another sperm collection done Thursday just gone and rang back in the afternoon as told he wouldn't need to do another test until egg collection as everything came back normal so I'm guessing the top of the waiting list appointment would just be for weight/height and blood tests?

@Hoping1 I am booked in for my telephone consultation on the 18th. What is it all about? From what I could pick up on our appointment it's the start of treatment? What's happening next for you? X

Same for me! Phone call was yesterday following our TOTWL appointment last week! Asked me on the phone when my next period would be and said the day after to phone the nurse to book in a blood test, she then worked out an egg collection date which was A LOT sooner than I was expecting! So glad things are finally moving!

Me too! Yea I am! However I’ve just completely sent myself into panic mode that it’s my 31st birthday 5 days (ish) before I’m due to start the long protocol so I’ll also be expecting a smear letter! And I don’t know how this might impact on everything! 😫

I had my phone call on Tuesday, basically the same as you two but with being irregular I'll either wait until my next cycle next month and give them a call on the first day or if not I have to call them on the 20th of March and they'll induce one. My egg collection date is booked in for the 20th of April but I'm on short protocol due to PCOS and high AMH levels so higher risk of OHSS. You two will have to keep me updated on how everything goes!

Fab news! My period came on Sunday, couple days early so not sure how that will effect anything, went For my blood test on Monday and my FSH levels came back at 9.9 which is just inside what they like them to be, I have a nurse appointment on the 3rd of March and probs start down regulation on the 7th!!
I made an Instagram account and it’s such a supportive network! Loads of people on there going through the same things and offering support and advice and their stories. Worth looking at if you don’t already do this xx

I'd just literally finished a period the day my telephone appointment was so that was abit frustrating having the whole cycle to wait but with being on the short protocol everything seems to go so quickly when it does actually arrive. I'm guessing your nurse appointment will be to collect your prescription for your meds and teach you how to inject? That is the only thing I'm dreading, I can't even look getting a blood test done never mind actually injecting myself 🙈

Oh so frustrating! Yea it should be! Talking through my treatment plan and everything and any questions we have. They said it should be about an hour and a half appointment depending on how many questions I have, I’m also not looking forward to injecting, I’m such a wuss! Hopefully after 1 or 2 we’ll be fine 🤞🏻

At the end of our TOWL appointment Mustafa asked if we had any questions but at the time it was all alot to take in but afterwards I had loads 😂
There is a group on fb called IVF Support UK and a few of them on there are at JC and have a group chat but I've not been forward enough to ask to join it yet but might be worth looking into x

I was with the lady and exactly the same... she said any questions and I’d just looked at her and said ... Nope! I was too busy thinking “omg I’ve just signed a document to say I’m ok with death being a possible side effect with this” 😂 oh fab I’ll have a a look thanks! Haha bless ya! Hey! Day 7 on Buserelin tonight! It’s kicking my arse with the tiredness but other than that absolutely fine!! I can barely feel the injections which is what I was most nervous about! Should have another week 1/2 then I’ll start stims! How’s everything with you? X

Report
Nattx · 14/03/2020 12:12

Oh I'm glad that everything is going well except the tiredness 😊 today is due date for my cycle but doesn't seem to be happening so I'm more than likely going to have to ring them on the 20th and be prescribed some medication to set it off, usually my boobs are really tender a couple days before hand but nothing, just my luck! Given your timescale for down reg to stims we will probably be doing it together, one long protocol how long do you actually stim for? Apparently I'll only inject for 7-9 days on short x
