Just thought I'd create a second thread for those following this case.

well someone put out the wrong description, judging from the CCTV released. Also, if the description was from the family, did the police not look at the CCTV themselves to get a description? If they didn't look at that CCTV, which others have they not looked at? It's coming up to 10 days, you'd have thought basics like descriptions would be correct by now

AnotherAppleThief · 05/02/2023 17:24

Maybe she changed after dropping the girls at school and had a 'dog walking' coat in her car that she put on?

WingingItSince1973 · 05/02/2023 17:26

I've just watched a 3 part documentary regarding a missing girl in 2019. What we don't see is the behind the scenes work the police so in cases like this. They can't magic up evidence. It takes ages to sift through cctv etc. some which have to be replayed over and over again looking for clues. It also highlighted how the media got things wrong in their reports and how the police had to ask them not to release cctv footage of a potential sighting so as not to alert the potential perpetrator they were watching them. It's all well and good saying they should do this that and the other and it's human nature to want this poor woman found and reunited with her family especially her little girls but some of the arm chair detectives that post things are just awful. Social media also played a part in accusing the girls friends of being involved a bit like how those are accusing Nicolas partner and the girl in the cctv footage. It's just too exciting for some people.

FurAndFeathers · 05/02/2023 17:28

What was the documentary please @WingingItSince1973 ?

confounded234 · 05/02/2023 17:29

Unfortunately for every crime solved by police, there are plenty that have been mucked up by them too. Plenty of awful crimes have had huge errors by the police, things that would just seem basic stuff really.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/02/2023 17:31

Unless the police know otherwise, why wouldn't they have released these cctv images themselves, and much earlier?

SgtCatherineCawood · 05/02/2023 17:33

I personally can't drive in wellies so it's very possible she changed into them to walk near the river which is presumably muddy at this time of year

Bubbinsmakesthree · 05/02/2023 17:34

confounded234 · 05/02/2023 17:00

The credibility of the police is diminishing with every passing day. They described the coat she was wearing as "ankle length". It's clearly not, it's knee length.
And those don't look like ankle length wellies to me....
It's hard to come to a conclusion that the police have handled this competently.

probably she’s simply wearing a different coat in those pictures? Appears those images are from home security cameras so perhaps she’s thrown a coat on to load the car, then had second thoughts about what to wear. The police were very specific about a gilet jacket over another coat and she’s not wearing a gilet here.

This might be why this wasn’t released directly by the police as it’s just confusing.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 05/02/2023 17:36

I suppose just odd that if she's dressed like that to leave the house, someone must have seen her elsewhere in alternative clothes, so where are these clothes and shoes? Where did she change?

Scautish · 05/02/2023 17:36

@LivMumsnet

“If we have to delete too many posts, we will remove this thread too“

So if I make lots of posts knowing that they break guidelines and will be deleted, will that mean you delete the thread or will I just get banned?

I think this thread is in terrible taste - this is a woman with an utterly distraught family. How crass and selfish and devoid of empathy must some posters be to see this thread as reasonable?

Yes there are very easily searchable reviews online that make for some very interesting reading.

Again speculation that could ruin someone's livelihood over a few bum reviews that's not fair!

MontyK · 05/02/2023 17:38

Does anyone know who retrieved the tied up dog and her phone, was it her partner or the police?

I find it interesting that nobody else encountered/witnessed the dog between the person who found it and the partner or police arriving, an hour and a half to two hours later. It sounds like it was a well trodden route?

MargaritaRita · 05/02/2023 17:38

Someone upthread said that she was logged onto Teams when she left her phone down. I don't know, but if she was, would any participant have seen or heard anything? I am sure the police have checked this out.

Occam's Razor. Something or someone disturbed her or she saw something and left her phone down and went to check it out. Fell in, maybe saw some animal in distress or something. She will be found soon hopefully. Thoughts to the family.

Nicola was on mute with the camera off throughout the call.

electricmoccasins · 05/02/2023 17:42

According to Sky, these images are from the doorbell camera. It makes sense to me that she would drive the children to school in the coat seen, and put the ankle-length gilet over the top later for the dog walk. Descriptions said that she wore the gilet over a coat. The wellies are mid-calf, not ankle, but not knee-length either.

Concretejungle999 · 05/02/2023 17:42

I mentioned this before on another thread. None of the news channels or anyone really is speaking out about the young man missing in Lancaster, 20 mins away. I’m not saying they are related but he hasn’t been seen since 10th December last by the river lune. I’m a local so both cases are on all the local fb groups etc… his disappearance is a mystery too and his family are also stuck in the same nightmare as NB family.

TheUsualChaos · 05/02/2023 17:44

I think my question got lost at the end of the last thread...
Does anyone know where her phone and dog lead/harness were first found? Were they left on the bench or did someone pick them up and leave them there to be found by the owner?

MargaritaRita · 05/02/2023 17:44

@Bluebellwood129 Ah, ok thanks.

That doesn't fit at all with the description from the police though:
"In a press conference, Lancashire Police described what Nicola was wearing at the time of her disappearance and issued an urgent appeal.
She was said to be wearing a gilet as well as a black waist length coat and tight fitting black jeans.
Police said Nicola was also wearing long green walking socks which were tucked into her jeans.
Her hair was tied into a ponytail and she was wearing a necklace and pale blue Fitbit."

I'm sure I read something about an expert saying the river wasn't tidal (or something like that) so it was unlikely she would've been washed down stream very far and certainly not to the point where she wouldn't be found given the short time frame in which whatever happened happened.

It does seem likely that she did go into the water but the absence of any evidence or trace of her whatsoever is still bizarre to me.

I live close by. The river is deep and can run fast. St. Michael’s has flooded many times at high tide because the tide pushes the river back and it bursts its banks. It is most definitely tidal.

Activelyannoyed · 05/02/2023 17:46

I actually think threads like this and on other social media platforms are really important, it keeps public interest on it, and when public interest is on it, then the police are held more accountable. It gives huge pressure on them to solve this, which sometimes is a positive .

the family are saying the hypothesis the police have shes in the water is based on absolutely no evidence. It is based on the opposite, a lack of evidence, lack of evidence anything criminal happened. So they have assumed this.

I still think it’s the most likely but I am concerned the police have thought this from the start. And if the family are right, there is nothing to lead them to think this way, then that’s a concern.

so we should be shining a light on it and fighting to keep this top of mind and continue to do so until they find her or know for sure.

if this expert is going to go in now and search the water, that’s a positive. He can apparently cover 10 miles a day . The divers can cover 100 metres.

so if she’s in there, he will find her, and if he doesn’t find her, then it is likely safe to assume she isn’t in there.

Bluebellwood129 · 05/02/2023 17:46

@TheUsualChaos Reports are conflicting but it appears that both may have been found on the ground.

I've got a feeling it might be the 'Libby, Are You Home Yet?' documentary.

MargaritaRita · 05/02/2023 17:48

The doorbell image may not necessarily be from the day of her disappearance, . The description of her clothing must have been given by family or someone who actually saw her that day.
