Just thought I'd create a second thread for those following this case.

If she had gone off to start a new life and the police know that, they couldn't tell anyone, not even her family, unless she gave them permission.

If that was the case they wouldn't be keeping up the search.

Would it be normal to do a Teams call for work whilst walking your dog? It definitely wouldn't where I work.

No significance really, except it's unusual?

I often do them if if I'm out with our dogs so I don't think it's that unusual. I work for myself though so no rules to follow.

I think folks need to remember, this guy is the police expert. He does all their work in the south east. He’s not just some random come up that river in a dinghy declaring himself expert. He actually is the one they go to and use for many many cases and is respected as a world leading expert in the field. So instead of slagging someone who is giving his and his companies time for free to help, simply as he dares speak out. I’d maybe remember that.

amd if the police didn’t wish him to talk, considering the police are a major client of his, and he is in meetings with them twice daily on this case for briefings, then he’d not be talking. So the fact he is talking, shows the police are ok with it.

Absolutely.
I read about him and his previous jobs
He isn’t some random, and is indeed extremely experienced.
His book that people on here are bitching about is published by a proper publisher, not vanity published, and would have been written LONG before this case.

If she was going to deliberately disappear and start a new life I really don't think she'd have bothered to join a work call that morning. I mean why? I think she's most likely in the river. If not, something happened on land (abduction?).

SirVixofVixHall · 07/02/2023 12:32

Bluekerfuffle · 07/02/2023 11:52

That’s what makes me wonder why he is so confident that if she’s there he will find her within the hour/days (depending on which version you choose).

I imagine it is because he has worked with so many different bodies of water, and he can judge how difficult it might be to find someone in the specific section they are searching.
Even time of year can make a difference. Canals for instance, can be completely clear, where you can easily see everything on the bottom, or extremely clouded and muddy, depending on the temperature and also the traffic through. Boats can churn up mud that makes visibility harder.
Sonar works even in very cloudy water where divers would struggle to have much visibility and are reliant on touch.

It may have raised suspicion if she diddnt?

This and the play date is weak evidence.

Doesn't want to draw suspicion. Doesn't want to get in trouble in work. Wondering if she wants to leave or stay so still doing normal things. Takes minimal effort to just join the call or reply 'yes, sounds good' to a text.

No idea what happened but this isn't strong evidence at all.

JaneJeffer · 07/02/2023 12:35

Surely a river expert knows it could take weeks or months for a body to be found.

Unicornpoop87 · 07/02/2023 12:37

itsnote · 07/02/2023 12:16

@Unicornpoop87 what on earth is wrong with you. The hand clap emoji to celebrate people being called mentally ill if they even dare to consider the (very slight) possibility she chose to disappear. Really?

God there's some horrible people out there.

For those of us who are local, this is very concerning, we want to know that all is being done. We want a resolution for the family, we care. We want her sisters hope that she's just gone off to resolve a few things to be true. This is our community. Your behaviour and that of @crocusfocus and @MayThe4th is disgusting.

Oh piss off Jessica fletcher I praised yes for the simple fact you was told for calling people who assume she may off took off on her own mentally ill! As I said before I hope she’s found safe

Fair enough but suspicion was raised a few minutes later when she did actually disappear. It all so perplexing.

I do - particularly if it’s a listen only call. Chance to get some fresh air, exercise and dog walking whilst listening to updates from work

I think that's exactly what someone who wanted to disappear would have done.

Send an email at x time, log into a meeting at y time. Make evrything look normal, and confuse things for later.

Not that I think she did do this, just that these are the actions of someone who wanted to.

having googled another man missing (mentioned on one of the threads on here) where they considered/are considering he may have come to harm in the river Lune (Daniel Hines) in Lancaster in December, I also came across another missing man, Peter, missing near the Bridgewater canal - whose phone was also found - abandoned on a towpath.

I was struck by the similarity, and hope there is no link. I’m sure the police will be aware of this case themselves.

I wasn’t going to post for fear of adding to speculation, but as the river search (for Nicola) is not showing any clues so far I feel things further afield could take on more importance.

I do not know any of the areas and so geographically the idea of any link might be very far fetched. Maybe people more local to Nicola’s area would have more idea.

Just looked on her Strava. There's not much activity other than in November last year. Some lovely photos on there, so bloody sad.

I find it disturbing that strangers are going on her Facebook and Strava pages and going through her photos and routes. It's weird and creepy in fact.

oakleaffy · 07/02/2023 12:48

kirinm · 07/02/2023 11:34

@Togoodtobeforgotten he is going to look like an idiot if they find her today.

If the body IS found, no one will look like an idiot.
Personally I don’t think Nicola ever went into the water, as her dog undoubtedly would have joined her .
The dog was bone dry.
I think abduction is more likely, especially as police were searching river so early on after her disappearance.

Depends on the workplace. My DH took an important work call at a petting zoo the other week.

I can imagine taking a call, but not a Teams thing?

Plitvice · 07/02/2023 12:48

It's worth mentioning that the Teams call was over a while. It's not unheard of to stay logged on for some time afterwards but I find it a bit unusual. Nobody saw her walk into the field so a third party could have caught up with her while she was on Teams which made her mute the call at that point to reply. They could have then instructed her what to do next with the phone/dog, making her leave with them via the path with no working cctv.

Bjarnum · 07/02/2023 12:49

Apologies if someone has already raised this, but have they done a flow test on the river? To assess whether under optimum conditions how long it would take a body to reach open sea.

This is why I don't do Strava. All sorts of people look at it for all sorts of reasons

melonraspberry · 07/02/2023 12:50

To be fair I’ve logged into a teams meeting and gone and had a shower …

SparkleBrows · 07/02/2023 12:54

DingDonkey · 07/02/2023 12:27

Yes, I wondered if this is why police weren't doing as much as some people think they should, although things seemed to have ramped back up in the last 24 hours.

We had a case near us where a drunk young man ended up in a lake. He was missing for a week or so before he was found, the public arranged searches. At the time I was surprised the police didn't want to be involved in co ordinating the searches or preserving any scenes, but with hindsight suspect they knew very well what had happened to him.

Activelyannoyed · 07/02/2023 12:54

If I’m honest, I think it feels staged. Leaving the phone logged in, on the bench, harness on the ground, seen a few mins walk away .

it feels staged to me, and I do believe if she was in the water they’d have found her by now. I also am really uncomfortable with the go fund me last night, and the request for 100k. Then when seeing rhe back lash, reducing it to 50 and then 5. I genuinely struggle to believe any well wishing friend would act on their own and think it a good idea to ask the public for 100 grand. If she did, she’s a lot to answer for.

there is also rumours she was reported missing before her stuff was found and reported. Not sure if this is true. But none of it makes comfortable reading. I hope she turns up safe and sound, I really do.

but the longer this goes on the less likely it is she’s in the river

SirVixofVixHall · 07/02/2023 12:54

JaneJeffer · 07/02/2023 12:35

Surely a river expert knows it could take weeks or months for a body to be found.

That depends on the river. Huge variation from fairly straightforward, to probably will never be seen again, to will probably wash up on x beach weeks later.
There is no standard “river” scenario as it depends on the specific river, and the specific point in that river, as surrounding terrain (trees, vegetation etc) and recent weather (heavy rain, drought, floods) all change the situation.
This man has year of experience in all these things.

TokyoSushi · 07/02/2023 13:00

I have absolutely no idea at all what's happened here, and as the days go by, I become more confused.

I agree that there are loads of things that point to it being staged, drop girls off at school and speak to somebody, send email to boss, make a future plan (play date) make sure you're seen on your walk, log into Teams, take your dog out going about your normal business, etc etc.

But SURELY you wouldn't just leave your children, and how would you ever get away from your dog? I know I couldn't get away from mine!

I just can't believe anyone would do such a thing, there has to be another explanation, but what?!

The go fund me was really clumsy and ill thought through at best, but probably just a big case of somebody putting their foot in it than anything sinister...
