Just thought I'd create a second thread for those following this case.

That's not an ankle length coat in the images. Really don't know what the police think they are doing. The woman with pram would have been very easy to find, she must have been local to be walking there at that time with a child and her coat was bright yellow!

confounded234 · 05/02/2023 17:00

The credibility of the police is diminishing with every passing day. They described the coat she was wearing as "ankle length". It's clearly not, it's knee length.
And those don't look like ankle length wellies to me....
It's hard to come to a conclusion that the police have handled this competently.

The police described an ankle length gilet - I remember thinking at the time that that this would be very distinctive.

There are some very good threads on other sites which highlight just how much confusion there is about this case and how much conflicting information has been reported in the MSM.

Which sites?

Peverellshire · 05/02/2023 17:05

@Bluebellwood129 @Judashascomeintosomemoney who has released the footage?

The police were strangely specific & detailed on clothing, down to pale blue fitbit & necklace. The pony tail is correct. She was apparently described as having black jeans on? From memory.

In a daily mail article today it says an underwater forensics expert is offering his services to the police to search the river (with much better equipment that can cover 10 miles in a day). Let’s hope they accept his offer.

I hope so.

i hope he's genuine & actually has the equipment & knowledge to do it 🤞🏼

there doesn't seem like there can be any kind of good outcome now, but I still keep hoping for one. Those poor wee girls, her family & friends. She's in my thoughts, they all are x

confounded234 · 05/02/2023 17:06

I've just noticed the CCTV footage has been released by the family, not the police. Could be that they've had enough of plod's incompetence.
At least the search specialists are (finally) being employed

Shampern · 05/02/2023 17:06

I remember the description the coat the police gave too. They made it sound like a some huge dressing gown.

Isn't it a bit convenient or suspicious that the one and only cctv camera that was out of order was the one that would give the clues?

Commonsensitivity · 05/02/2023 16:57

Apparently her spaniel was found bone dry. Spaniels are water dogs. If she had gone in the river I'm pretty sure the dog would have tried to go in after her. None of this is making any sense.

@Commonsensitivity

someone should have told my spaniel that, she didn't like to get her paws wet, let alone go into water, much less a river!

NewBootsAndRanty · 05/02/2023 17:09

The coat is waist length in the image and description; the ankle length gilet described isn't in the photo.

Bluebellwood129 · 05/02/2023 17:09

@Peverellshire It’s been released by a friend.

That link to the BBC news story says it’s her friend that has released the cctv image of her

Yes there are very easily searchable reviews online that make for some very interesting reading.

The coat is knee length in the images taken from CCTV.

Northernlurker · 05/02/2023 17:11

@NewBootsAndRanty ah that would explain it

justgettingthroughtheday · 05/02/2023 17:13

My other big concern right now and reason for thinking some speculation is important is to encourage other potential witnesses to come forward.
IF she has been abducted or assisted to disappear then that could potentially have been witnessed or heard about elsewhere. Outside of the search area. With the police and press seemingly focused on the narrative that she's gone in the water, that could put witnesses off coming forward with what they have seen or heard.

I think that's unusual though. Most gundogs are not afraid of water.

I think they do have some CCTV footage but the camera at the caravan park that would have shown everything wasn't working that day.

Don't you think if speculation from the public was in any way helpful, the police and family would ask for it?
I mean the police literally do this for a living so probably know about what might help than the armchair detectives do.

I agree that they should appeal for witnesses and update the public on the case.

Surely the police's description was based on the description they were given of her clothes from the family?

I completely agree.
Also why haven’t the police released cctv footage of her on the day to jog peoples memories?
Why has a friend done this - yet not the police?
Also the cctv the friend has released doesn’t completely match the police description of her…it’s very odd & doesn’t come across well.
At least the police have agreed to let Peter Fauldings underwater team to help with the search.
Hopefully they will know pretty quickly if she’s actually in the water or not and if their working hypothesis is actually correct…

Bluebellwood129 · 05/02/2023 17:21

@Surely the police's description was based on the description they were given of her clothes from the family? Or did it come from potential witnesses who reported seeing Nicola in the fields?

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 05/02/2023 17:21

Does anyone remember when Naya Rivera went missing in that lake? There was so much speculation and public demand that the sheriff's department had to make a show of doing what the public wanted even when they had said so many times that they had already searched the area on land.

The sheriff's department ended up being correct.
