Just thought I'd create a second thread for those following this case.

@pigsinoodies that’s what I am unclear about, here it reads like the person, who didn’t know Nicola, & tied Willow to the bench, informed the police that she was told by a dog walking pair a ‘laughing and joking’. Nicola was seen earlier.

In other words this earlier sighting information was second hand.

Almost certainly the police followed up & ironed things out re: testimonies of x5 or so people flagged up? Probably just early details that got garbled.

However, who is the man? He had a narrative about dog being lured to water’s edge etc?

Peverellshire · 07/02/2023 13:06

@pigsinoodies www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/nicola-bulley-seen-laughing-joking-29107497

‘the friend, who wishes to remain anonymous [who tied dog to bench] said she had spoken to two people who were the last people to see Nicola alive, ‘laughing & joking’. [so this information originally second hand]

having googled another man missing (mentioned on one of the threads on here) where they considered/are considering he may have come to harm in the river Lune (Daniel Hines) in Lancaster in December, I also came across another missing man, Peter, missing near the Bridgewater canal - whose phone was also found - abandoned on a towpath.

I was struck by the similarity, and hope there is no link. I’m sure the police will be aware of this case themselves.

I wasn’t going to post for fear of adding to speculation, but as the river search (for Nicola) is not showing any clues so far I feel things further afield could take on more importance.

I do not know any of the areas and so geographically the idea of any link might be very far fetched. Maybe people more local to Nicola’s area would have more idea.

There was an article the other day on Lancs live or Blackpool Gazette where there was a lady attacked on a canal path in broad daylight only around 2 weeks ago but again the timeline is so small would it be possible for something like that to happen? If someone did do something untoward to Nicola then they would have to hide her well in that space of time I just can't see it.

@Unicornpoop87 it was @crocusfocus who wrote that, it's since been deleted. You can't even be bothered to read the posts properly.

Presumably the police have spoken to the friend and to the two people. They've not asked for those people to come forward after all.

Despite them not keeping everyone informed of every little step they take I think we can assume that they're not just sitting back waiting to be told what to do.

itsnote · 07/02/2023 13:16

No worries. I hope so too. Really did think they'd have found her in the water by now. I know these waterways and with the amount of searching effort, I'm very surprised.

Unicornpoop87 · 07/02/2023 13:18

How long will the search in the river last?

Sleepeazie · 07/02/2023 13:18

It does seem very far fetched I concede. I just don’t know how many ‘presumed drowning’ in a 100 mile? radius would be considered ‘normal’. It was the phone being found and ‘’no sightings’’ and the notion of disappearing in to thin air that made consider a link.
it does seem to be one of the few feasible types of surroundings- in our modern busy/CCTV filled/ people filled/dashcam/social media/ and post incident forensic knowledge world- that ‘could’ be a criminally minded persons dream.
presumption of accident (in absence of evidence - cctv) takes precedence and forensically the water may not help?
to be clear I’m not speculating exclusively about Nicola here, I err on believing the police who know the case rather than layman me- but if the investigation moves from water to land then I think this may become more pertinent?

Peverellshire · 07/02/2023 13:20

@Plitvice how long was she ‘logged on’ after the call ended?

@Activelyannoyed as far as I know there is no clear, correct narrative of who informed who & how the fact dog/loose reached primary school (?) & later (?) her partner. Or even who exactly was at scene when dog was ‘tied up’ & ‘they tried & failed to get the phone off lock screen’ (x3 people) which is where & how first ‘bench tying’ witness was (half) able to identify Nicola? According to some articles.

Can the call be still ‘logged in’ on ‘lock screen’?

kirinm · 07/02/2023 13:20

Activelyannoyed · 07/02/2023 12:54

If I’m honest, I think it feels staged. Leaving the phone logged in, on the bench, harness on the ground, seen a few mins walk away .

it feels staged to me, and I do believe if she was in the water they’d have found her by now. I also am really uncomfortable with the go fund me last night, and the request for 100k. Then when seeing rhe back lash, reducing it to 50 and then 5. I genuinely struggle to believe any well wishing friend would act on their own and think it a good idea to ask the public for 100 grand. If she did, she’s a lot to answer for.

there is also rumours she was reported missing before her stuff was found and reported. Not sure if this is true. But none of it makes comfortable reading. I hope she turns up safe and sound, I really do.

but the longer this goes on the less likely it is she’s in the river

Where are these 'rumours'?

I would hope that if they don't find her in the water today that all the surrounding land will get checked over which I'm sure they have said they have done already.

Peverellshire · 07/02/2023 13:26

@pigsinoodies oh I agree, especially as this early narrative isn’t flagged by BBC article, etc. It is all rather odd though in some respects. (Poss esp re: man).

We don’t seem to have an exact timeline of when the alarm was raised, by whom & the circumstances, how the news passed along the ‘chain’ or even where dog was running in agitated state (?) Unless I’ve missed (?)

PetsRFuss · 07/02/2023 13:28

confounded234 · 07/02/2023 12:16

Totally agree. The line that this is some publicity whore looking to sell more copies of his book is pretty offensive. If he doesn't think she's in the water, I'm inclined to take his advice.

I also agree and find it so ignorant posters saying is out promoting his book like they have some very clever insight in his ulterior motives. I'm guessing it's people who aren't an expert in anything and just can't imagine what it's like to just know your stuff really really well. It's ignorance.

The dog was running between the gate and the bench I think? I don't know about the rest of it but I'm sure the police will have a clear timeline by now, even if they're not disclosing as much as some people would like.

Bluebellwood129 · 07/02/2023 13:35

Where are these 'rumours'?

I posted a clip last night of Sally Riley saying that Nicola was reported missing before Willow was found - I believe this may have been at an outdoor press conference on 30th January. This could have been an error on her I guess.....

Bluebellwood129 · 07/02/2023 13:37

@Moonlightdust What was the name of the lady who is reported to have found Nicola's belongings in the area of the bench?

ofwarren · 07/02/2023 13:39

A police press conference is scheduled for this afternoon

I find that most people who are world-renowned experts in their field don't tend (or need) to brag about it. Unless they're involved in a campaign of self-promotion.

I'm sure he's very good at his job, I'm not so sure he's any better than people heading up teams who do identical work all over the country and all over the country and all over the world however. And of course not being a member of the emergency services he's much better at getting his name in the papers than any of the other world-renowned experts out there.

I wonder if that means they haven't found her and they are going to be talking about their next move I suspect if they have found her it would be breaking news.

Do we need another thread? I'm rather afraid to start one as it's a fine line between concerned discussion and speculation, But I am finding this thread useful -apart from the arguing-
