Just thought I'd create a second thread for those following this case.

I am not suggesting that the boyfriend is involved at all or that there is any foul play. I just think that if it were me, my Dh would not say that the DCs missed me and needed me but say it on behalf of all three, himself included (despite not being one to openly express his emotions in public).

True but everyone is different and maybe he's just concentrating on the children and not his own feelings. Either way it is all very odd and I hope her family get all the answers that they need.

Was the phone and harness found on the bench or did someone pick it up and place it on the bench?
People do that all the time round here. A glove, a child's toy, keys, glasses etc. Finders leave it where it might hopefully get picked up again by the person who lost them.

You’d think if they had they would have come forward by now and said so.

Peverellshire · 07/02/2023 10:57

The Wyreside camping pods are the closest area to the bench?

As far as we know, this area not yet searched?

I agree - if you're the sort of considerate person to pick up a phone and harness and place it on a bench you would definitely have let the police know you did this.

Bluekerfuffle · 07/02/2023 10:59

I don’t think Peter Faulding comes across that well. He’s said he thinks she’s not in the river, then he thinks she is in the river, then he’s baffled she’s not, then the dog would have been howling by the river if she was in it. (That’s assuming the dog saw her go in, if she went in. If she had fallen in and it didn’t see her go in it wouldn’t know where she had gone, which he doesn’t seem to consider).

I don't think they have. Police only stated 'empty caravans'.

There was a breaking news thing on TV and they said it had all been searched.

"Yet her Facebook page which she set to public depicts a lovely happy family life full of outings and holidays with her partner and children."

It doesn't though does it? That's another thing that is confusing people, up until 5th Dec she was regularly posting happy photos (including daily elf on the shelf antics). Then absolutely nothing ever again (other than bed for sale).

A woman who shared every event with lots of pics all of the time, who clearly loved Christmas "magic" with her kids and in the church etc. suddenly posts nothing at all. No more elf, no carol service, no christingle, no panto, no cookies for Santa, no Santa visit, no Christmas Day, no Boxing Day, no Happy New Year, no back to school....that's not normal and it just adds to the whole confusion surrounding her disappearance.

Maybe she suddenly switched to private settings? I know often people have everything public then make it all private.

ThisOrdinaryLife · 07/02/2023 11:02

A different way of looking at this is that if exactly the same situation occurred, but the river wasn't there, the assumption would be that she is missing (whether that be through choice or foul play), rather than she must have fallen in a hole in the ground for instance. It's the almost exclusive reliance on the river having the answers that might be blinkering the investigation, even though it's clearly one that should be investigated.

Oh yes definitely you would say something. I was more just wondering if the police had said whether or not this was the case with how the items were initially found.

Was it him that was so certain that she wasn't in the water? Then she was in and he'd find her within hours?

@Mincepieeyes22 @Bluekerfuffle @TheUsualChaos

Some details here & not elsewhere & now seemingly forgotten . Poss later debunked? Including that person who toed dog to bench also spoke to people who saw Nicola in top field ‘laughing and joking’:

I don't think they have said anything. Also thinking about it they must have checked the phone for fingerprints

crocusfocus · 07/02/2023 11:04

Her poor girls. Almost unbearable to think how upset and confused they must be about their "lost mummy" . I feel so sad for them .

I completely agree! I'm getting a bit annoyed with him constantly speculating to the press. Baffled she's not in the river despite saying he didn't think she was. It's great he's doing such a thorough search of the river but I wish he'd keep his speculation to himself. I bet the police aren't impressed.

She could have changed it to private for a few reasons one being she was planning to walk away? Or someone was stalking her?

Togoodtobeforgotten · 07/02/2023 11:02

Yes, and he’s also said he does think she was in it at one point. He’s gone from within the hour to a few days. I wonder if his equipment is way better than the usual equipment used, as several people have pointed out that it’s taken weeks to find people that have fallen into rivers before.

kirinm · 07/02/2023 11:06

Re Facebook - it is quite likely that her family / friends / facebook have made her account private since she disappeared.

I think that is exactly the way most people feel more so people that are parents themselves.

crocusfocus · 07/02/2023 11:08

I am going to report this thread due to the speculation . The comments on here are horrible. Of course she hasn't walked away from children.

Peverellshire · 07/02/2023 11:08

@itsnote seems that the FB account only active or even established for a couple of years? Prolific FB people likely active far longer (?)

I agree with that point as obviously it leads out to the Irish sea but then have read she wouldn't have gone that far which is the part I don't understand.

HazardaGuest · 07/02/2023 11:10

Have I imagined it or was it someone from the caravan site who “found” the dog? If it was it is a bit of a coincidence that they own the only route away from the river that isn’t covered by cctv.

skingraft · 07/02/2023 11:10

Just been reading the latest stuff... should the diving expert really be speculating so publicly?? 😳 He’s quoted speculating about a 3rd party, asking husband if she has any stalkers or enemies :/ Doesn’t come across well and I wonder how the police feel with him saying all of this.

I really hope there’s answers soon. I often think of Claudia Lawrence and how she seemed to vanish into thin air, and that her poor dad passed away without knowing what happened to her.

Absolutely awful and imagine being the family going through their own hideous nightmare and trying to keep upbeat and distracting the girls from the turmoil.
It is beyond my comprehension.
