In a station in a city, a British Soldier stood,
talking to the people there as if the people would....,
Some just stared in hatred and others turned in pain,
and the lonely British Soldier wished he was back home again.
"Come join the British Army", said the poster in his town, see the world come have your fun, come serve before the Crown, the jobs were hard to come by and he could not face the dole,
so he took his country's shilling and enlisted on the role.

Now the station filled with people, the soldier soon was bored,
where was this his battle God?, where was this his war?,
the room filled up with mothers and with daughters and with sons
they stared with itchy fingers at the soldier with his gun.

A sudden shout, a screech of breaks a shattering of glass,
the window of the station smashed to let the package pass,
There was no time to pick it up, to throw it in the street,
the Soldier looked around the room a mass of running feet.

"Take cover" yelled the soldier, "Take cover for you lives", "Protect your young, protect yourselves, protect your frightened wives!",
he lay down on the package and he murmered one farewell,
to those he loved in England,
to those he loved so well.

He saw saw the sights of summer, felt wind upon his brow,
the young girls in the city parks how precious were they now?
The calling of the Swallow, the beuaty of the Swan,
the moving of the turning earth how soon would it be gone.

A muffled soft explosion and the room began to quake,
the soldier blown across the room, his blood a crimson lake,
he never cried, he never yelled, they never heard him moan,
They could not tell the pieces from the blood and from the bone.

The crown outside, they cheered and they sang their rebel song,

One soldier less to interfere where he did not belong.

But will they tell them growing up sat on their mother's knee
about the lonely soldier,
who bought their libery,
who used his youthful body as a means towards an end,
to save the lives of those who called him murderer not friend.

A song, written by the brother of a serving Northern Ireland soldier who died in the above way. I'm so glad the IRA have agreed what they have. The armed police in today's circumstances are under similar turmoil. Please spare a thought. I hope no one is offended, no offence is intentional. Maybe just think what the individuals concerned have to face. This is not intended to upset anyone involved in the Northern Ireland conflict, it is just a poignant message, perhaps relating to our armed police having to face suicide bombers, not in any way a wish to inflame the fantastic work that the Government and Sinn Feign have brought about. Just, the armed police dealing with this would be just as willing to sacrifice themselves I'm sure.
