Err from the maths I think you should have posted, there have to be Asians that are not Muslims (while I agree that there are non asian muslims your 'maths' doesn't prove that point)

But HMo2 the POLICE themselves are saying they shouldn't be treating any group any different from any other. I'm not saying that - senior police officials are. If you do then you get into dangerours territory.

I'm going to see if I can find the interview on listen again.

I think they have to make the right pc noises

Jimjams · 25/07/2005 20:48

which mosschops was why the person interviewed said that it was important a system was brought in to ensure that stop and search was random- as it in for the ring of steel around the city. He stressed several times that that was important- I can't find the lnk without listening to the whole of Jeremy Vine again- but it is there somewhere.

I think if you say they have to be PC or they won't do that then you are suggesting that the police are racist/predjudiced which is something the met is currently working very hard not to be.

The senior police officer interviewed made perfect sense- they also said from an operational point of view if you are known to target particualr groups then it becomes very easy to get round stop and search. So it's not only to be PC - it's for operational reasons.

Well Ive never been stopped driving the car, and neither has my mother. Ive lost count of the times Ive been in the car when my dx was driving and the police stopped us.

Flossam · 25/07/2005 20:53

QoQ, they were shooting to kill. The number of shots really won't make any difference. Yes he was shot aggresively but they intended to kill him. DP does not think that armed officers are told the exact number of shots they should discharge, surely they are trained to respond in a situation as seen fit.

I think its a good idea if it prevents a particualr group feeling victimised- feeling victimised breeds disaffection which can lead in extreme cases to suicide bombers. It's no good terrorising a group if you are already breeding home growm bombers. Won't work.

Jimjams · 25/07/2005 20:57

The ring of steel was set up around the City following the IRA bombings in 1992 (??- early 1990's) to protect the City.

Heathcliffscathy · 25/07/2005 20:58

mosschops, but the police have repeatedly been found to be so...prejudiced and racist that is....overall, not all of them, but at the least a large minority....they are working on it, this incident will not help that in the least...

Heathcliffscathy · 25/07/2005 21:01

sorry jj, missed your post on this, yes they are working on it, but far too soon imo for them to have eradicated or even made serious inroads to combatting the institutional racism they have been accused of...that undercover programme was only last year wasn't it??

melissasmummy · 25/07/2005 21:02

Luton bus station has been closed off as they have reason to believe that there are bombs there.

Seeing as the first group travelled from to Luton to start their attacks, they have to take the necessary precautions.

Regardless of who is & isn't at fault, the police have reason to believe we are still under the treat of attack, as we were when they caught up with the guy we are all discussing.

The more important issue here is, "When will it all stop?" The answer, I fear is, "When the bombers feel that they have caused enough carnage to satisfy themselves & we as a nation start to turn on each other.

Looking around the world, I don't think it will let up soon enough. My DH said that by the end of the year we will be in the throws of a civil war. I think we are there now.

We should be uniting in wanting those that cause these events brought to justice, not putting down the police for doing a job that many of us wouldn't want to.

My FIL & MIL were due to travel from America to Australia the day after the 9/11 attacks(at the time we didn't know when they were due to fly home) We couldn't get hold of them for 2 days, have many of you had to sit & wait & hope for news to have to wait for that call.

Lets just agree to put an end to this "War"

melissasmummy · 25/07/2005 21:09

We worry about a group feeling victimised?

I can't fly a GB flag as it may offend
I can't have Jesus on my Christmas cards as it might offend
I can't wear a crucifix as it might offend
My children won't be able to sing songs at school as it might offend
& all the other barmy laws that we are given to make the minorities feel happt in OUR country.

I feel victimised that I am not allowed to hold MY religous beliefs in MY country & all because a minority might be offended!

What has GB come to?????
