"on mumsnet this week" in the Mail. Is this a new thing

jujumaman · 13/08/2009 10:32

Came across this this morning when I should have been working

Is this a new weekly rip-off by the Mail? Or has it been going on for months and I'm behind the times as usual

I'm not quite as virulently anti the Mail as mnetters, find it silly rather than the end of civilisation as we know it. But still ...

STevie, not all posters, I asked mn to delete all my posts when somebody did a drive by we know who you are post with a one off name change. Tehy didn't do it for me. I asked a couple of times. They did it for COD. Not bitter about that , I'm glad they did it for her, but ,,,,, wtf?!

AitchTwoOh · 13/08/2009 22:42

sweetness, they do say that things come in threes, don't they? congratulations on your pregnancy and welcome to mn. (and change yer name.)

Thunderduck · 13/08/2009 22:43

Perardua sorry. And I'm whining about the DM using the wrong name. Still in my defence I'm not being paid for it, unlike some.

I will be writing a strongly worded letter to the editor once I've calmed down as I'm not exactly the voice of reason right now.

PerArduaThinksFucktheDM · 13/08/2009 22:44

Thunderduck - wrong person to apologise to I'm sure

sweetnessfollows · 13/08/2009 22:44

I don't plan on going anywhere, I just hope some people do read this/that daily mail post and realise it is wrong for employers to sack people. In a way, I'm glad they've used my situation so that some other girls may open their eyes too.
I will never glance at a Daily Mail again though. This has well annoyed me, such a simple mistake that some terrible journalist just hasn't checked over and completely upset ALOT of people. The domino effect takes over and they'll be sitting sweet while we are angry and upset or whatever.

TheWiltedRose · 13/08/2009 22:44

In case you want to discuss away from MN

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 13/08/2009 22:45

Oooo i just seen this - i have nothing to hide in general but do post things i woldnt want people close to know and generally change name to do so. I did have a nice profile but i feel a bit uneasy about it all now so ive changed it and removed photos and will probably change my name ina few days when i think if something different. Sorry for those who are upset by all this.

poopscoop · 13/08/2009 22:45

thunderduck

hope you are ok

PerArduaThinksFucktheDM · 13/08/2009 22:45

And it's not just them using the wrong name - it's rubbing salt in a wound. You've every right to be Very Upset.

ingles2hasacesspitfullofDM · 13/08/2009 22:46

That's made my day swedes
If anyone wants to contact me I'm on ingles2 @ livedotcodotuk

AitchTwoOh · 13/08/2009 22:46

but lol wilted that's an open fb site where people use their real names?

Thunderduck · 13/08/2009 22:46

I'm glad you're staying with us Sweetness.

K999 · 13/08/2009 22:46

Actually I would like MUMSNET to tell us all, if we request to have all previous posts removed, that they will remove them???

StinkyFart · 13/08/2009 22:46

you have linked to an open group on FB

How can that be any safer than discussing on MN - at least on MN you use a pseudonym

scottishmummy · 13/08/2009 22:48

TWR,FB isnt any safer.i know employers who google candidates on FB for any inappropriate conducts

oopsagain · 13/08/2009 22:48

I;ll ket you know re the post deletions.
I have requested some posts of mine are deleted.

I'm VVVVVV cross

penona · 13/08/2009 22:50

I went cold turkey on MN at Christmas (was eating my time!) but been back alot more recently and enjoying getting back into it again.

Am now going to have to find somewhere else to post, which is a shame. I just think this is so so wrong, how awful to feature someone's real life problems without asking them first!! Even if using a nickname (and the wrong one, tsk). Am v surprised MN thinks this is a good idea. It sounds like a terrible one.

bratley · 13/08/2009 22:50

Oh I'm so
Its not even an article, its just a straight out lift, idiots.
Hope you're ok thunderduck, have fun shooting, definitely aim at the DM!

Swedes · 13/08/2009 22:50

HeahLardy - You are being deeply unpleasant.
I think it might even constitute a demand, with menaces (see Theft Act 1968).#

Feels depressed as really wanted to discuss pre-lunch nibbles in thread tonight. Gah.

TheWiltedRose · 13/08/2009 22:50

Group is now closed and does not show on your profiles!

I don't see how MNHQ could have been bullied into this Lardy. Surely the copyright position is very clear?

For whatever reason both the Mail and the Independent judged that MN would most likely welcome the publicity. MN presumaly then had to choose whether to demand that they cease and desist or let them continue. Obviously they decided it made good commercial sense to let them continue. But it's pretty shitty for those involved.

IOnlyReadtheDailyMailinCafes · 13/08/2009 22:52

Scottishmummy I live in tory heartland, they skin you alive round here if they find out you are a leftie, if they quite like you they may shoot you first.

The other cafe that does not usually have the mail always has the Telegraph

AitchTwoOh · 13/08/2009 22:53

lovebetrayal, you seem to have completely missed the point.

JustineMumsnet · 13/08/2009 22:53

Not at all frosty but no banter either. I respected her posts and was sad to see her leave way back when but she was only an Ex-Mumsnetter for a little while. Came back quite soon under a new name.

We weren't bullied into anything because we didn't know about it! We were slightly surprised that the Mail hadn't run it by us, though, tis true.
