"on mumsnet this week" in the Mail. Is this a new thing

1009 replies

jujumaman · 13/08/2009 10:32

Came across this this morning when I should have been working

Is this a new weekly rip-off by the Mail? Or has it been going on for months and I'm behind the times as usual

I'm not quite as virulently anti the Mail as mnetters, find it silly rather than the end of civilisation as we know it. But still ...

OP posts:

HeahLardy How are your stetchmarks?

K999 · 13/08/2009 22:32

I would be surprised if MNHQ havent already got their own lawyers onto this - afterall has their own copyright not been breached......or was it already authorised.....oh the plot thickens....

K999 · 13/08/2009 22:33

No-one has answered my question yet (asked way back) - can I have all my previous posts deleted???

scottishmummy · 13/08/2009 22:34

Godzilla,MN Angry,opinionated and often hilarious.Damn right

i say independent have got it right,on that score

it is witty, argumentative, sharp, incisive and laugh out loud funny

StinkyFart · 13/08/2009 22:34

HTH

WhoSoldMyPrivacyToTheDM · 13/08/2009 22:34

Rindercella - are you ever going to come round and play? If you abandon ship here we'll never get to eat cake together!

FluffySaysTheDailyMailsCrap · 13/08/2009 22:34

I expect you can K999, I've no idea how you or they could go about this though. You've been very busy

Merrylegs · 13/08/2009 22:35

This whole sorry fiasco has just gone to show how lazy the journo actually is.

She ought to be thoroughly embarrassed by this.

Not one for the cuttings album, methinks.

Also, "Mumsnet posse".

WTF? As if we are dispensing some kind of collective judgement.

I have never been part of a 'posse' in my life. (Unless you count the Tufty Club. Which was kind of cool. In a squirrel-type fashion.)

V. poor show indeed.

Right...That's it for me as well...
Despite the fact I've been here for many years, loads of you won't know me.
I've always been pretty conscious that being relatively well known in my industry, I can't post freely without risk of being identified.
I've never even been happy with the books and other spin off. But this just takes the biscuit.
Justine, this is very very short sighted. As owner of copyright and brand you should have out your foot down and refused to let the DM use your brand name in association with lifted text.
You have diluted your brand. This may well bring a short term increase in traffic but I can pretty much guarantee, you will lose long term, in book sales, and contributors to the site.
Thanks all it's been great...
And if anyone is offering entry to Moldies... I'd love to

HeahLardy · 13/08/2009 22:36

Stretchmarks? Help! Not sure whether I'm meant to have them or not.

K999 · 13/08/2009 22:36

Thanks - think I will do that. And then jump ship!!

sweetnessfollows · 13/08/2009 22:37

I'm fine honestly. Its the name mix up on there that has annoyed me. I wouldn't have minded them using my name as it was my first post and no one I know knows I'm on here. They did, however, use a name of someone that is well known and its completely wrong for them to be able to have such a mix up like this and get away with it.
I think I will do a name change before my next post lol. Jeez, finding out I'm pregnant, losing my job and the dailymail buggering things up all in a few weeks. Crazy!

Nancy66 · 13/08/2009 22:37

disclaimers are not always legally binding - as daft as that may seem.

sweetnessfollows · 13/08/2009 22:37

(sorry about the double post, not sure what happned there)

FluffySaysTheDailyMailsCrap · 13/08/2009 22:38

Shall we converge on FB until we work something out?
It doesn't feel safe here any more

Swedes · 13/08/2009 22:38

Ingles - Sorry to see you go. I had a crush from afar.

PerArduaThinksFucktheDM · 13/08/2009 22:38

You're new sweetness - we'll forgive you

Rindercella · 13/08/2009 22:38

WhoSold - am emailing you now

Ninkynork · 13/08/2009 22:39

I've asked for that as well K999, but will probably climb back aboard with some variant of this username by, ooh - tomorrow night when I will have wine

Thunderduck · 13/08/2009 22:39

Thankyou all for the kind words. DP is furious too and it takes a lot to make him angry.
I've no real right to complain,it's only my name that has been used, whereas poor Sweetness' real life situation has been used and discussed without her permission.

Sweetness don't feel that you dragged anyone into this. You didn't. The journalist and DM did.
I'm sorry that this was your first introduction to MN, and wish you all the best with your pregnancy and hope that your situation is resolved to your satisfaction soon. I do hope you stick around though.

Anyway enough of my whining, this has potential implications for all of us certainly in regards to privacy, and in regards to the shame of appearing in such a shit paper.
I'll have to walk around with a paper bag over my head for at least the next decade.

I do love that name Peradua. It has a very nice ring to it.

DP is taking me clay pigeon shooting tomorrow. He's suggested attaching copies of the Daily Mail to the targets as he believes that my aim will vastly improve if he does.

emkana · 13/08/2009 22:40

I'm not happy either, I agree with oops on this. I don't post much these days but had a reasonably interesting story that I posted a lot about a few years ago and how do I know that this could not be brought up again at some point, and I have never namechanged so then all my posts could be easily found. Shame that it has come to this.

PerArduaThinksFucktheDM · 13/08/2009 22:40

Happy Shooting

HeahLardy · 13/08/2009 22:40

C'mon Justine - how frosty or not is mn's relationship with ex-mner? You sound like you've been bullied into this. Or cornered, rather. I've been here long enough to have read a lot ie deletions that made threads read differently.

mummylin2495 · 13/08/2009 22:41

what will happen to the people who come onto mn to ask for advice when they have been suffering DV.They relate what has been happening to themslves ,then the story appears in a paper ,the perpertrator sees it ,then the original poster on mn will get another battering for talking about their private life ?? Can this be right ? Where will people who really need help go if they have no RL friend /relatives who can help. This stinks.
