ok pointy. I think you need to be a leetle bit more specific about what will give you something to work with. What part of the human rights idea does not compute? Just flash a light, we'll try and interpret.

southeastalien · 31/10/2008 21:50

god the bbc is so stuffy arsed

pointygravedogger · 31/10/2008 21:57

human rights are very complicated laws, no?

Is there a human rights law that says under no circumstances will it be made public knowledge who you shagged?

pointygravedogger · 31/10/2008 21:57

bbc management need some steel

southeastalien · 31/10/2008 22:01

i resent paying for it tbh

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 31/10/2008 22:01

No, there isn't such a law, pointy. Though I beliefve there is a right to an unmolested private life, unless you are hurting others blah blah

But in any case. you'll notice that I didn't refer to the laws, but to human rights in general, which are standards which all thinking people could agree, I hope?

The right not to have one's sexual life (sexuality being generally considered to be a part of one's private life both in ethics and in law) broadcast to the world would surely be one of them?

Or it would be in any country/community that I would want to live in. Perhaps you feel differently.

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 31/10/2008 22:02

Can I just SHOUT OUT that so many of you who decry the illiberalism of the DM are SO BLEEDIN' CONSERVATIVE that it makes my eyes water and my fanny wince.

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 31/10/2008 22:03
Grin
southeastalien · 31/10/2008 22:03

why should I pay for tv? it's quite laughable

if it's good enough it will sell itself

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 31/10/2008 22:04

here we go

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 31/10/2008 22:11

you can buy a kit, you know, these days (in case you have no live libertarians to hand)

"Build your very own reactionary! Then set it free, and watch the status quo be maintained!

Hour of fun for all the family! Watch it bash its head against the liberal brick wall - the more they do it, the bigger they grow ! etc etc.."

IorekMandelson · 31/10/2008 22:14

"if it's good enough it will sell itself"

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Heathcliffscathy · 31/10/2008 22:15

haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa [thunk]

OP posts:
southeastalien · 31/10/2008 22:15

why the lololo

pointygravedogger · 31/10/2008 22:16

"the right not to have one's sex life broadcat to teh world" would not be a law for me, no. What a wishy wahsy law.

georgina seems to quite like broadcating aspects of her sex life

VictorianSqualor · 31/10/2008 22:18

Sorry I've read and reread the thread, can someone point me to the post where it says what RB&JR did was actually ok?

And OBM, have you seen the interview with Sachs? Even he doesn't seem to understand the uproar.

RB&JR said something stupid. It was crappy college boy humour at the possible expense of someone RB has cause to believe may not have been bothered. It doesn't warrant any of this.

southeastalien · 31/10/2008 22:21

i think people are underestimating a 78 year old bloke's reaction to it too.

my dad is 78, he would just laugh it off and probably be more worried about what's for tea

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 31/10/2008 22:23

oh for fucks sake - have you never noticed, pointy, that laws don't take into account what a particular individual does?

They exist as moral lines in the sand, regardless of circumstance.

It doesn't matter what georgina does or doesn't like to do re: her sex life - JB/RB still don't have the right to broadcast aspects of her life which are private (in this case, her sex life).

Why the fuck would it be wishy-washy? As the law stands, unless it is in the public interest, which no-one could say this was, we all have a right to a private life.

Very straightforward, not wishy-washy at all. Are you the product of some MN Towers controversy-generating virus?

pointygravedogger · 31/10/2008 22:24

if I was a 78 yr old bloke I would be pissed off at my granddaughter blagging to the nation about how a lover of hers imitated me and ridiculed me before/after having sex. I would not want to be the third person in her sexual relationship.

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 31/10/2008 22:25

southeastalien: you might want to read the thread - we;ve been there in some detail.

pointygravedogger · 31/10/2008 22:25

I don't think this is a case to get in a rage about. It's all bollocks. |It's all inconsequential. I am not going to start talking about human rights laws in relation to this poxy case.

VictorianSqualor · 31/10/2008 22:25

They do actually OBM.
Privacy laws anyway.
That's why celebs can be snapped wherever/whenever without it infringing privacy laws.

Swedes · 31/10/2008 22:26

There's a lot of very unladylike swearing on this thread.

southeastalien · 31/10/2008 22:26

sorry can't be arsed to read it

just think my dad was just laugh to himself about it

southeastalien · 31/10/2008 22:27

she's a grown up lady person
