Somewhere in the last few days in these endless threads someone said it wasn't misogynistic, it was just plain and simple bad taste. Would tend to agree.

southeastalien · 31/10/2008 22:46

the blame lies at your precious bbc, some old eatonian knob passed it for broadcast

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 31/10/2008 22:46

It doesn;t MATTER which ansering machine it was! The point, in terms of the law, is that his (and her) privacy was invaded by having the information broadcaset without their consent.

in these instances (I REALLY do know about these things) only a WRITTEN release form will do. They didn't have one, therefore they were non-compliant when they broadcast it.

'Compliance' is the term used to describe the legal code of practice to which all broadcasters must work.

The BBC have, in broadcasting this, risked the contract they have with the nation, because they have not been Compliant in this instance. There are no ifs or buts about it.

jimjamshaslefttheyurt · 31/10/2008 22:47

someone (macdog?) on another thread posted this which I'm sure some of the 30000 will deem in bad taste, but hey ho it demonstrates the ludicrousness of this whole argument I think.

pointygravedogger · 31/10/2008 22:47

yeah, they didn't handle it well. That is obvious. The bbc are pretty spineless on occasion.

southeastalien · 31/10/2008 22:50

the bbc are a bunch of knobs that i resent paying for

though i like bbc4

ScottishMummy · 31/10/2008 22:50

salient point.i don't care about 3 egotistical bampots and their me-me-me pursuit of money and self

southeastalien · 31/10/2008 22:51

we need a british hbo

ScottishMummy · 31/10/2008 22:52

onebatmotherofNormanBates · 31/10/2008 22:52

"
Also, misandry is extremely prominent in comedy, mainly soaps and the like, but for cheap laughs men are ridiculed and mocked."

I mentioned earlier that the reversal of normal power relations is a traditional comic mode which has been around since well before Shakespeare.

It doesn't mean that things are equal at all - in fact, it's acknowledged to be a way of momentarily venting the frustrations of the disempowered in order to prevent a genuine revolution.

The idea of misandry, given the fact that we still live in a patriarchy, is a profoundly reactionary one. Like racists whinging about how the whites don't got no fun anymore.

southeastalien · 31/10/2008 22:57

yes a channel that can sell itself, the bbc is sold worldwide yet we still pay for it

IorekByrnison · 31/10/2008 23:08

I would think that what BBC Worldwide makes from international distribution is a drop in the ocean compared to licence fee income.

I'm pleased to hear you like BBC4. I love BBC4. Do you seriously think it could possibly exist without the licence fee?

beaniescreamyb · 31/10/2008 23:08

The sales pay for programmes, they are not for profit. If the BBC didn't sell the licence would rise by 25%.

BBC World and the BBC's other international television channels are operated commercially and do not receive licence fee money. As they include advertisements, they cannot be promoted in the UK

clicky

LittleBellaLugosi · 31/10/2008 23:14

"doubly humiliating her grandfather"

So how is she doubly humiliating her gf again?

Sorry, it's late.

wintera · 31/10/2008 23:23

2 new stories for everyone. One says JR tried to make a public apology earlier -

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/3330294/Jonathan-Ross-apology-blocked-by-the-BBC.h tml

The other says he might go for good according to Terry Wogan, and there are some comments by other radio 2 djs -

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/3331849/Jonathan-Ross-may-not-return-to-the-BBC-cl aims-Terry-Wogan.html

Can I just say again how much Jeremy Vine is annoying me right now? He was once a phone guest on RB's show where he joked about sex with his wife if I remember correctly. Yet he seems very sanctimonious
at the moment.

LittleBellaLugosi · 31/10/2008 23:31

blimey

His colleagues aren't what you'd call supportive, are they?

wintera · 31/10/2008 23:42

When I read Paul Gambaccini's statement all I could think was 'I bet Dermot O'Leary isn't pleased with that comment!!!'

wintera · 31/10/2008 23:43

Found another story. No such thing as bad publicity? Fawlty Towers dvd sales rise! -

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/3327591/Sales-of-Fawlty-Towers-and-Brand-DVDs-soar -in-wake-of-row.html

southeastalien · 01/11/2008 08:49

Paul gambaccini's show is highly polished, though he does play alot of american r&b crap, he hates dermot's show (which is crap)

pointydog · 01/11/2008 16:37

gambicine is such a bore
