Manhunt ongoing.

A lot of bad news in the last couple of days.

Why? Genuinely.

I don't understand it at all.

Witnesses saw blood leaking from the cases, so probably not.

We don't even know who the murder victim/s is /are yet.

People assuming it's bound to be a woman victim- it's just as likely to be a male victim.

It's reported that the male who dumped the suitcases was shouting in Spanish while being pursued by a cyclist.

I could actually think of quite a few people I'd hope it would be rather than a young innocent boy. A paedophile perhaps? Child killer? Someone guilty of many heinous crimes?

OK, I live here and hadn't heard the Spanish bit. Not been mentioned on local news. Surely people aren't thinking it's that Jay Slater?

The suspect looks like a British gangster, not a Spanish one. Nothing to do with his colour but his clothes.

Jay Slater is from Lancashire! I doubt he speaks Spanish!

Spanish is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. He could be from the Dominican Republic, Brazil (Portuguese and Spanish can be confused by non native speakers), pretty much anywhere in Central or South America. Speaking Spanish means little in this context. His clothes could be representative of lots of different backgrounds. It's more than a bit of a leap to somehow arrive at this being related to the Jay Slater case.

If the body is in two suitcases that means it's been dismembered. He would have had to do that in a private place (like his own home) and it would have taken him time to do so. My money is on a domestic killing.

If it is who people think it is in the suitcase, are you saying the suspect travelled with that suitcase from abroad? Went through customs and everything?

Sorry to speculate. It feels a bit disrespectful - to whoever's remains are in that suitcase and to JS.

I don’t think anyone thinks it’s Jay Slater. There is a young man who has been sadly missing in Bristol since March.

For anyone not local, the 'J' being mentioned is Jack O'Sullivan who went missing from the general area many weeks ago. Some people are assuming Jay Slater, and the Spanish speech is confusing the issue. Local news is saying nothing about anybody speaking Spanish, although I acknowledge the previous link. Jack O'Sullivan's family have been informed that a body has been found, but there is no indication (yet) that it is him. As there was blood, the body is either fresh, or kept in a freezer and thawed. Sorry to be graphic, but it would seem to be less likely to be either of the 'Js". But we should know more tomorrow.

That is utter bollocks. Rape and gang rape has gone up massively in the UK for example. In 2002/3 the number of rapes recorded in England Wales were 12295. In 2023 in was over 60,000.

Oh dear. Sorry to hear that.

First off all number of reports is only loosely correlated with the actual number of offenses. So more recorded rapes is a good thing in my opinion.
And secondly, this is a thread about murder. Which have in fact reduced.

So are you saying that the majority of those women in the latter years were lying? 🙄 And my comment was in response to someone else who brought up the subject of VAWG of which I’m perfectly entitled to respond to. This thread is also about violent crime - of which murder is one example. Since when did you become the mumsnet police?

No. It means more women are able to report and more women are being listened to. But you know that and are being deliberately goady.

What a terrible week

I did momentarily think of Jay Slater- so say one of his 'associates' is from Bristol - but if this is Jay - how on earth did he get here without his passport..

I hate to say it but fresh blood doesn't mean much, people are kept alive but imprisoned for many horrible reasons and then dealt with and you'd be surprised at how many bodies are carted around in suitcases via taxi, not all of them dead either.

Well, that's grim. Can't think of any reason why a student without any dodgy past would be kept captive since March, so I really hope it's not him. Anyway, I suspect that this thread is going to go the way of the original Jay Slater one...
