Manhunt ongoing.

A lot of bad news in the last couple of days.

I mean I hope it's not Jack O' Sullivan, if he's been kept somewhere alive. Don't care about Jay Slater.

I hate to say it but fresh blood doesn't mean much, people are kept alive but imprisoned for many horrible reasons and then dealt with and you'd be surprised at how many bodies are carted around in suitcases via taxi, not all of them dead either.

How do you know this??

fleabites · 11/07/2024 21:25

How do you know this??

The mind boggles. Maybe they’re a high level police intelligence operative, or maybe… just maybe, they’re talking bollocks.

Normallynumb · 11/07/2024 21:30

My DS2 lives in Clifton so I immediately knew the road
Anyone local would be aware of the wires to help prevent suicides
There is CCTV along the bridge( hence the clear image)
Leigh woods is across the bridge so he could've escaped through there
What the hell is happening in this country

No. It means more women are able to report and more women are being listened to. But you know that and are being deliberately goady.

Goady in what sense? I have a 7 year old daughter and these statistics worry me. My comment has obviously irritated you for some reason. Why?

MadKittenWoman · 11/07/2024 21:35

But where would he go in Leigh Woods? Sorry if this offends anyone local, but Leigh Woods and Abbots Leigh are very white, middle-to-upper-class areas and anyone black dressing like a gangster in head-to-toe sportswear is really going to stand out.

I hope you work for the police or similar because I can’t imagine how you know this information!

The Taxi Driver surely would have been suspicious?

A human being's remains is going to weigh at least 50 kilos {Assuming an adult victim}- That's a lot of weight for a suitcase, which would normally hold clothes and personal items.

A few years ago in a heatwave, a box was dumped locally that smelled terrible and leaked a copious amount of dark fluid.

Police were called, as no one dared look. Fair play to police and medics who do have to attend such incidents to check up.

It was an animal, a fox, not sinister remains, but police say to ''always check''.

So much bickering on these threads.

MadKittenWoman · 11/07/2024 21:43

I think the bickering is because some of us are having a conversation about a local murder case and someone is derailing it by talking about something else.

The uk didn’t used to be like this

Well actually violent crime is decreasing compared to 20 years ago.

I think we never used to hear about every crime in every area of the country and beyond.

Thanks to the 24 hour news cycle and the Internet we can now consume huge numbers of articles about different crimes globally, in huge detail, with multiple articles and updates about a single incident. 30 years ago you'd get one article in one newspaper and typically only about the things most relevant to your area / country.

Not to detract from how horrible these crimes are of course.

MadKittenWoman · 11/07/2024 21:50

I withdrew a previous post because it was a mistaken edit, not anything dodgy. Why can't we edit ;posts on the app?!

The Daily papers and 6 PM Clock news was basically it. Local papers had a morning and evening edition, even in the 1990's.

Not sure of the era in which most people have access to internet - but nowadays in 'developed' countries almost everyone has easy access to rolling news should they wish to see it.

MadKittenWoman · 11/07/2024 22:06

@Garlicnaan

I agree, but many people in Bristol are really angry that a criminal like Jay Slater gets all the publicity while few of you outside of Bristol have heard of Jack O'Sullivan.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 11/07/2024 22:12

And the person leaving the cases may not have been involved in killing. Could have been forced with threats to himself, his family, because he owes a debt, because he’s a victim of modern slavery, any number of scenarios.

Completely agree with you.
It seems very arbitrary about whom the media focus on - and why.

We hadn't heard of Jack O'Sullivan before seeing the missing person's posters up around Hotwells and Clifton when visiting the area - It is unfair how one person with a dodgy past gets massive coverage, and another doesn't.

Parents in the group were saying how they would find that the worst thing ever, to not have news of a son or daughter like that.

Like Suzy Lamplugh's ''disappearance''. Suzy's mother tirelessly campaigned for her Daughter's whereabouts.

They've just issued some very clear pictures of the man so hopefully he'll be caught pronto

Yes hopefully someone who knows him will see it and contact the police 🙏

The suspect looks like a British gangster, not a Spanish one. Nothing to do with his colour but his clothes.

His clothes don't scream "gangster" to me.

In that ''CCTV still'' the man with the suitcase looks startled. {Splayed hand}

He looks right in to the camera. {Pic: The Independent}

Hopefully he will be caught and the truth comes out. He may well try and say he was covering up for someone else as part of his defence if caught.

How local do you mean though? Yeah anyone local to the bridge or who has been to the bridge would be aware but not everyone in Bristol will have been there and the bloke got a taxi there so presumably he doesn't live in the immediate area.

I think that must be a still from the cyclist who chased him. Perhaps a go pro. Quick thinking from the cyclist if that is the case.

To the posters asking about missing persons in the news, I don’t think you realise how many people go missing each day and no, most people don’t care even if you get fired up here you probably don’t. Donate to a missing persons charity or offer some volunteer time as moaning won’t help find them.

If the body is in two suitcases that means it's been dismembered. He would have had to do that in a private place (like his own home) and it would have taken him time to do so. My money is on a domestic killing.

Gang killing is the other likely possibility.

I hope the police will be able to identify the victim soon - from appearance (and familial DNA) if it could be someone who has been reported missing; or DNA database if gang related and the victim has previously been arrested.

If neither of those avenues gives a result, then I'm not sure what else they would try - artists impression of face, plus and distinguishing features (eg tattoos) and public appeal for information?

Edited to change a word (which made a nonsense of the meaning of my post)
And to add that the pic shows that the suspect does not appear to be wearing gloves, so if he has previous, the police may well have identified him by now from fingerprints on the cases and have other lines on enquiry which they have not chosen to make public at present.

Debbiejv · 11/07/2024 22:23

And also if you go down the route of who is ‘worthy’ of being searched for you have to ask where does that end?
