I know I shouldn't speculate.... Suspect is Man who was obsessed with woman or she had recently split up with him....

NooNakedJacuzziness · 11/07/2024 17:13

Not exactly a mastermind if he took a taxi there!

whathasitgottodowiththepriceofoliveoil · 11/07/2024 17:13

The photo is so clear. Someone's got to see it and think Omg that's so and so.

separatedornot · 11/07/2024 17:14

Poor taxi driver.

(Assuming he didn't know)

Begins with J?

Yes.

I’m a local, it’s horrific. I’ve taken my kids birdwatching at that very spot.

Whoever he is, this man is clearly not the brightest - he took a taxi (witness one) to probably the most famous landmark in the city, likely to be reasonably busy even at midnight (more witnesses). Not only that, it’s covered in CCTV cameras (largely for suicide prevention purposes, sadly).

My theory here - based purely on familiarity with the bridge and the area - is that he’s not local. He went up there intending to throw the cases into the river, then realised the suicide barrier was too high. The area he seems to have dumped the cases, however, has a very low barrier - but anything thrown over there would likely land on the road below, not the river. I wonder if he’s not familiar with the area, got there and realised disposing of the cases in the river was going to be more difficult than anticipated, and was interrupted while trying to quickly change plans.

The police have released CCTV of the man they believe placed the suitcases there. It's on the BBC website.

I suspect exactly the same. I'm guessing he meant to throw them into the river, never to be seen again. As you say, clearly either not local or not very bright. The bridge is teeming with CCTV and, I believe, staffed at least at one end.

I really hope it's not the person who sprang to mind when I saw the news 😥

I saw the family posting they didn’t think it was him. But he was the first person that came to my mind as it was nearby.
whoever this person is sadly will leave some family of friends behind.

really sad

Saschka · 11/07/2024 17:23

I suspect not very bright/panicked. You wouldn’t get a taxi from miles away to dump a body in a river. Mind, I wouldn’t get a taxi to do it at all…

ForgottenPasswordNewAccount · 11/07/2024 17:24

Yeah, I was thinking someone not local, thinking he could throw the suit in the river.

Hvjudefjhfdr · 11/07/2024 17:24

Horrific, it feels like the end of days is coming. WTF is wrong with these evil people?
The only good thing is that he will be caught given his face has been seen clearly, there were witnesses who saw him run and he took a taxi. The evidence is indisputable against him.

Does it really matter if they aren't very bright or are super intelligent? They need to be caught.

I have so many questions going around my head

There are loads of missing people and more who no one reports. I think this is unlikely to be one of the high profile young men. I hope it's at least answers for someone.

Who do you hope it is then, because it’s someone who has lost their life either way.

ShutTheFuckUpCakes · 11/07/2024 17:26

Weirdly there was a case not far from where I live over lockdown where a dismembered body was found in two suitcases, and that killer had also got a taxi to the spot where the cases were dumped.

Puffinfoot · 11/07/2024 17:28

It doesn't say the remains are male? I'd bet they're not.

MrsMoastyToasty · 11/07/2024 17:29

There's a lot of parkland on the North Somerset side of the bridge including the Ashton Court Estate and some of the private/public schools sports facilities. He could be anywhere.

70% of murder victims are male, so could be!

Are you from Bristol? There has been a young person missing since march. Their family are doing all they can to trace him as his disappearance is quite strange (there is not much info). I’m pretty sure many of us have thought “I hope it’s not J”. We know it’ll be someone at the end of the day, but I guess most of us hope this man sooner or later appears (alive if possible)

Phoenix someone, FoD? I remember that, gruesome.

UnashamedSlattern · 11/07/2024 17:32

Good God! How horrific. The arrogance and unashamedness of trying to dump somebody’s likely dismembered body via taxi and in such a public place!

Also not even trying to hide/disguise his appearance. Wearing a distinctive jacket and baseball cap!

Humanity is moving more and more backwards from civilisation every day.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 11/07/2024 17:32

There are cameras on the bridge and I think they’re monitored in real time due to the number of suicides / attempted suicides over the years. Police have already traced the taxi driver so can’t be too hard to find who the person on camera is.
What the hell has happened in this country? So much violence.
