Sex offender granted asylum?

cordeliachaseatemyhandbag · 02/02/2024 08:16

Given the other thread was deleted I'm assuming we aren't allowed to talk about the ongoing criminal incident/investigation.

However it's the top story on the bbc news that a convicted sex offender was granted asylum then has gone on to seemingly commit another violent offence.

Surely there should be a blanket ban on convicted sex offenders being granted asylum?

It’s so bad under the tories, I can’t imagine how much worse it will be when Labour get in

The best way is to deter the trafficking

Dealing with it in courts and prisons is costly as well as the harms through the crime

How much more will the NHS need to be funded properly?

No one will answer that.

Policies suggest about two days of NHS funding

That’s before you get to everything else they’ve apparently allocated it to

I don’t see the point in having a system that costs us dearly in police / court and incarceration time and funding

Traffickers and criminals taking advantage is the last thing we want

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 02/02/2024 21:58

oh!

wrong thread.

whatever.

parasitic though? Bit harsh.

I'm fed up with all the bleating about rights, rights come with responsibilities. You have a responsibility not to commit crimes, I do not really care if a sex offender gets tortured when deported. Woman deserve to be safe.

EasternStandard · 02/02/2024 22:07

@Norahsbooks why would you want to process these criminals here?

You could have a better system where we avoid the injury and cost

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 02/02/2024 22:07

I am a hardworking taxpayer. I’m tired funding an inadequate health service that seems to thinks it’s beneath them to ask for payment from the many thousands of health tourists and from the many thousands of people who use it without having recourse to public funding.

I’d say a fair amount of political capital has been used up trying to work out a deterrent system

Because that’s the only viable option within international law

It will be scrapped by Labour

TypicalCoach · 02/02/2024 22:18

Every few months we hear from some lawyer, charity or jeremy corbyn talk about creating legal routes" to enter the UK to process an asylum claimm
Can you imagine how many people would be turning up then? There would be millions in the first year it's laughable how deluded people are.

You see the anger in Ireland and Europe this issue is not going away and its no longer seen as a "your a right wing racist if you dare speak about immigration.

Bridgetta · 03/02/2024 02:23

UK is signatory to both the Convention against Torture, and the Convention on the Status of Refugees, and has a consistent stance that we do not deport anyone to a country where they face the death penalty

You must mean face the death penalty for things like free speech and minority rights? And not for things like murder or rape, hopefully? Why should anyone care if a literal rapist gets the death penalty in their home country?

Bridgetta · 03/02/2024 02:26

People give a big talk about safe routes but when the system already accepts obviously fake cases … it doesn’t sound like any sort of solution
