Sex offender granted asylum?

cordeliachaseatemyhandbag · 02/02/2024 08:16

Given the other thread was deleted I'm assuming we aren't allowed to talk about the ongoing criminal incident/investigation.

However it's the top story on the bbc news that a convicted sex offender was granted asylum then has gone on to seemingly commit another violent offence.

Surely there should be a blanket ban on convicted sex offenders being granted asylum?

It’s a sickening situation.
And now the nhs will have to treat him.

Not until he is caught - and I am hoping he is suffering in the mean time. And getting infections. And going blind. Hopefully it will be too late to save his eyesight by the time he is caught.

And when he goes to prison he will hopefully live in terror as he will be easily identifiable as the scum that attacked two little girls

notknowledgeable · 02/02/2024 09:28

I am aware how evil this makes me sound, but that picture of his facial injuries has made me so happy

AnneLovesGilbert · 02/02/2024 09:30

The whole thing is absolutely sickening and enraging.

How many claims are people allowed and if his third claim had failed what would have happened to him?

Why are you allowed to claim even once if you’ve been convicted of a crime whether or not you get a custodial sentence?

Why are the rights of men like this rapey hateful bastard more important than those of the all of the women his violence have affected.

Two failed asylum attempts and then claimed to have converted to Christianity on the third attempt. A priest acted as a character witness despite Abdul already having been convicted of a sex offense at that point.

This, probably some bent priest. Hope he feels guilty for having blood on his hands as well.

ThePoshUns · 02/02/2024 09:36

I hope he gets sepsis before they find him.

Sex offender granted asylum?
RoseAndRose · 02/02/2024 09:42

BBC article refers to sexual offence/exposure. His sentence was suspended.

But even if it was a more serious offence, attracting a custodial sentence that was not suspended; countries cannot deport offenders (on conclusion of their sentence) to countries where their life is at risk.

So one asylum granted, then they are ours (unless circumstances in their country of origin have changed sufficiently to make their return safe).

Apparently he pulled the toddler out of the car and repeatedly slammed her to the ground before using the chemicals on the mother and older child.

Are they his children?

cheezncrackers · 02/02/2024 09:47

And now the nhs will have to treat him.

In terms of the cost to the taxpayer, that's just the tip of the iceberg. He'll get a lawyer, paid for by Legal Aid, which is funded by the British taxpayer and almost impossible to get if you are, in fact, a British taxpayer. Then he'll get a trial - again, paid for by the taxpayer. And then, if we're lucky, he'll be incarcerated at HM's pleasure at a cost of £240 per day (or almost £90,000 per year). No doubt his sentence will be pathetically short, and then he'll be released after serving just half of it, because prisons are so full that this is the norm. Then the British public will once again be at risk from his offending behaviour, because god forbid anyone strips him of his ill-gotten British citizenship and returns him to Afghanistan on release!

DRS1970 · 02/02/2024 09:47

It seems the offenders human rights seem to trump those of his potential future victims. Rather depressing isn't it.

TypicalCoach · 02/02/2024 09:49

My friend worked on the hotels arenagnebt involving the Afghanistan following the return of the taliban the stories she told me about the way the men would treat women, staff etc was horrific,

He would have been granted as they know he won't have been getting removed, as the layers, appeals make it impossible to deport people unless they have agreements sith countries e.g Albania.

Whilst asylum is full of doo gooders "sponsors" like priests and those in the community ready to vouch for people they barely know.

Anyway more of this to come

fonfusedm · 02/02/2024 09:49

The worrying thing is just how many other people are granted asylum after committing serious offences in this country? He can’t be the only one.

he isn’t

MinnieCauldwell · 02/02/2024 09:50

The murderer of Sarah Everard was 'just flashing' prior to her abduction, it always seems to be a pre cursor to something more serious. I know his name but refuse to type it or say it.
I hope you dies from sepsis so we don't have to treat him and house him.

This ⬆️

An interesting loophole that appears to be used quite often. The guy who blew himself up outside Liverpool Women’s Hospital had done the same.

Not confirmed. It was a targeted attack, so there was some form of relationship; but whether that was a partner, family member or something else is currently not made public

Dexterrolledoffthesofa · 02/02/2024 09:56

Better to grant asylum if there are grounds for that then punish sexual offending properly - this is the main problem in this country, asylum seekers and British nationals alike are not prosecuted, convicted an sentenced adequately.

Better to allow a known threat to women & girls into the country, and then deal with whatever they do?? REALLY???
Better to not allow him in, in the first place and safeguard our own citizens, surely????

Nolongera · 02/02/2024 09:57

He won't be deported.

Should be but won't.

I used to work in forensic mental health. We had a sex offender asylum seeker.

The woman he had attacked killed herself before the trial.

He refused to state where he was from.

Cunning, eh?

Given permanent leave to remain. When he is not in prison or secure hospitals, he lives on benefits. Never worked.

He will never contribute to this country.

Exactly. And who pays for that? Both figuratively and literally?
Us.
FFS.

We seem to be importing the very worst people.

Indeed. The UK needs to grown a goddamn backbone, and use the word NO.
It is a complete sentence, after all

JimBobsWife · 02/02/2024 10:10

Deathbyathousandcats · 02/02/2024 10:00

We seem to be importing the very worst people.

The problem is that even if these people aren't criminals many have come from countries with completely different cultural systems to the UK.

There needs to be some sort of conversation about integration and how this is managed more effectively, especially as immigration figures are expected to grow by over 6 million over the next decade with most coming from outside Europe.

anniegun · 02/02/2024 10:16

There is violence against women every day and prosecutions and sentencing lets us down again and again. Far too much emphasis on his asylum claim. Are we happy to allow violent men to attack women as long as they do it to women in another country?

ViscousFluidFlow · 02/02/2024 10:19

Even my quite woolly minded liberal sensibilities cant get through this. We have enough bloody awful men of our own. I look to Sweden and where their very progressive stance got them. The Nordic countries are often held up as a shining example of great welfare and care systems but they have completely failed their own women with their progressive stance. Issue is its only extremists in any political debate that tend to speak out. So we get the everyone deserves a chance and let’s rehabilitate all offenders and then the right wing who would just gun boat them in the channel if they could. The very reasonable middle ground rarely speaks.

Quite. My mind has been changing recently. Look what Merkel’s asylum policy has done to Germany.
