Sex offender granted asylum?

cordeliachaseatemyhandbag · 02/02/2024 08:16

Given the other thread was deleted I'm assuming we aren't allowed to talk about the ongoing criminal incident/investigation.

However it's the top story on the bbc news that a convicted sex offender was granted asylum then has gone on to seemingly commit another violent offence.

Surely there should be a blanket ban on convicted sex offenders being granted asylum?

I can’t recall which pp but they’re right it’s systemic

This using the system, the profit, the appeals, the whole set up . It’s not just one person converting to Christianity to stay

Huge business with people who won’t want that to end

We could deter it all and choose carefully who we say yes to

Erm, I don't know how it works but if you're granted asylum because you'll be tortured, murdered etc if you go back to your home country, I'm not sure of the morality of refusing asylum on the basis of sexual offending, it would basically be a death sentence.

Better to grant asylum if there are grounds for that then punish sexual offending properly - this is the main problem in this country, asylum seekers and British nationals alike are not prosecuted, convicted an sentenced adequately.

I think being tortured and murdered would be just the ticket for the abomination of a human that this man obviously is.

We shouldn’t be allowing men like this to come here full stop - he’s no doubt been driven out of his own community overseas for being a violent lunatic.

@User135644 I think it's been evident for years that the Home Office is entirely captured by civil servants overruling weak ministers.

It's still up to the government to strengthen the laws which civil servants have to operate within the parameters of.

Were the judges who heard his third attempt at getting asylum not a tad cynical that he'd suddenly converted to Christianity?

Allwelcone · 02/02/2024 19:05

Surely they are not the actions of a "sane" person.
Or of you mean the Biibi Stockholm residents then yes they have most likely had pretty awful loves thus far what with being from war zones and whatever ypu think about small boats it's got to be traumatic coming over like that.
I beleive there have been suicide attempts there so yes I stand by that.
Why wouldn't they?

We have a much higher acceptance rate than other EU countries, maybe this is part of it

The public are sick to death of human rights lawyers, raking in cash by keeping violent criminals, rapists and other scum from justice. Tories will be using Starmer's past as one of these lawyers as a line of attack in election year.

Well yes, the Tories are desperate. They can't fight the election on how they have improved the UK since 2010, so negative campaigning is all they have.

My friend was raped and murdered by a asylum seeker. I don't deny most are deserving of shelter. But her attacker had been known to police in they're country. Not sure how he got in.

I'm so sorry. Flowers

Allwelcone · 02/02/2024 19:10

Fair point, I suppose these could be the actions of a sane person.

@User135644 laws can be pretty vague.

Because we have so many deluded people who put the needs of men before the safety of women and children here.
Like the people who stand up on planes and make a fuss when there is a person being deported on the plane. Considering how high the bar is to actually reach the point of being kicked out there should be a system to kick those passengers off instead of taking the criminal back off the plane.

whereaw · 02/02/2024 19:27

@Allwelcone the scary thing is that most violent criminals are not mentally ill. Mentally ill people are more likely to be victims than the perpetrators.

StressingOutFestival · 02/02/2024 19:29

It’s really not that hard.

People like him should be a firm NO irrespective of what happens to him back home.

I am not a Tory politician or voter but I am desperate for safe streets for my daughters. My question is precisely because of KS past and career as a human rights lawyer. It is not like he is going to go against what he believes and his past career.

JSMill · 02/02/2024 19:43

Can you imagine being the victim of one of those men and going through hell to get justice, only to read a bunch of 'do gooders' refused to allow a plane to take him back to where he came from?

Exactly!

Imagine if we go to war with the ME. I am beginning to think this is all planned. It is too surreal to be happening. We were warned as well.

Exactly. Can you imagine the mentality of someone who would stop a rapist from being deported?

The system is hugely stacked one way.

It needs to change

Presumably your government has a duty to the British people, not to all women everywhere. The people who vouch for his good character or whatever should face some consequences. They are paving the road to hell with their ‘good’ intentions

I don't think anyone has to vouch for their good character.

If claiming asylum, you have to show that there are good grounds to fear persecution. And that's pretty much it.

UK is signatory to both the Convention against Torture, and the Convention on the Status of Refugees, and has a consistent stance that we do not deport anyone to a country where they face the death penalty.
