Some good news at last!!

OP posts:
amytheearwaxbanisher · 15/03/2008 00:07

amazing and wonderful shes been found alive

MUM23ASD · 15/03/2008 00:40

i will listen to that feedback programme- i am glad others found it a bad interview

WendyWeber · 15/03/2008 00:48

The interview with Karen Matthews is about 14 minutes in.

MUM23ASD · 15/03/2008 00:53

MADAMEZ....and yet it DOES go on. Believe me.and i have learnt to accept that it's hard for 'undamaged' people to see the FACTS within the FICTION

Spend a bit of time within support groups for survivors of abuse- than tell me its dubious.

Ofcourse it was a work of fiction. I hardly though it was a 'Live Action' documentary.

and I take great comfort in assuming that you seem to have no personal experience of the FACTS that people insist are FICTION - which hopefully means you were allowed to be a child.

MUM23ASD · 15/03/2008 00:57

thankyou wendy- i am feeling very emotional about this and will listen tomorrow.

I'm sorry if i have gone off at a tangent with this thread- I just want to be totally wrong- i feel i have 'snowballed' all the gosip in the media and its hit a raw nerve with me. I know that not every unhappy child is abused. I also know that NONE should be.

madamez · 15/03/2008 01:19

Mum23ASD I am not denying that child abuse is horribly common, just saying that this particular programme really piled on the horrors and was (I think) a bit irresponsible in presenting it as 'realistic' with everyone this child ever met being yet another abuser.

DrNortherner · 15/03/2008 08:46

But surely it is odd that Shannon has not been reunited with her Mother?

If my child had been abducted hell nor high water would not stop me from seeing her.Is this normal practice?

FairyMum · 15/03/2008 08:52

No of course not. Something's fishy!

SlartyBartFast · 15/03/2008 09:09

they would have to check all avenues.
they wouldn't be doing their job properly.

3 weeks is extraordinary after all.

PollyPentapeptide · 15/03/2008 09:11

Apparently, the man found in the house with Shannon is related in some way to her mothers current boyfriend and Shannon is effectively being kept in care and not allowed to return to her family. So yes, there is something odd going on.

Do any of us know that it's not standard procedure to place a protection order on a child who has been the victim of abduction? When the facts of the matter have not yet been deduced? No, I don't think we do, so it is unkind and unhelpful to speculate that there is something odd about the whole situation, and by implication Shannon's family, which, whilst not the picture book family of married couple with children, certainly is not that unusual these days.

elesbells · 15/03/2008 09:26

There has never been a case like this in this country where the child has been found alive after so long.

Its been said this morning that they had to put a police protection order on shannon in order to secure any pending prosecution. They do not want any clever defense lawyer later claiming she was 'got at' by relatives and coaxed in any way. Its to ensure that her mother can't take her home until the police have all the facts of whats happened in the three weeks she has been missing.

It will take time to interview her. its normal for the police to take the softly softly approach with children, so I think its unfair at this stage to instantly think something is 'up' with parents.

I remember those girls who were taken for 3 days in the 80s were taken straiht to their parents werent they?

Immaculateconception · 15/03/2008 12:16

Hi

Just reading through the more recent posts. As you can tell from when I first posted that Shannon was my neice, the family is very disfunctional. My dad didn't think to inform me of the fact that Shannon was my neice until the 29th February. We think the only reason why he did this is because it was going to come out in the news about the family. The grandparents that are on the news are not from my side. I still haven't heard anything from my dad. I do now hope that the mess that I have seen as far as my family is concerned is sorted out, Shannon is not the only one within the family that needs help. This is part of the reason why I have distanced myself and my family from this side of my family.

TotalChaos · 15/03/2008 12:17

I agree with Freckle, particularly as the abductor appears to be a member of the stepdad's family, so it would be particularly important for the police to get the info they need first before Shannon goes back home.

3NAB · 15/03/2008 12:47

I don't think Karen and her partner are married so he isn't officially her step father.

It breaks my heart to think she is in care but I also feel maybe it is for the best at the moment.

I wonder if she just did not want to go home and came across the man she was found with who said she could stay with him for a bit, and being 9 didn't realise the implications.

SlartyBartFast · 15/03/2008 15:50

poor girl
poor family

she is alive which is fabulous though.

MUM23ASD · 15/03/2008 16:10

best bit i heard today was that apparently last night shannon was given a kitten to cuddle/play with....very theraputic i'd imagine.
I expect she's still very subdued and unable/scared to tell anyone what happened- but talking to a kitten may just be possible.(my brothr in law is in CID and has told me in the past animals are often used to 'break the silence')He unfortunately deals with cases like this daily.but ofcourse he cannot tell me anything about this case.

Piffle · 15/03/2008 17:40

Dp and I are not married and he is def ds1s step dad. Time and effort adds to the title and dp is also financially providing for him. In all ways but biology.
Hope wee Shannon is ok. Reports sound encouraging. Hope she is reunited appropriately asap

QuintessentialShadows · 15/03/2008 17:50

Thank God she is found.

Whether she was there of free will or not, the last few weeks must have been hellish for her.

Imagine what it is like to be confined to inside a divan against your will.

Imagine what your life is like if you choose to hide yourself inside a divan.

Whatever it is, it is not good.

I hope she gets the help she needs.

MissyTheFlouncer · 15/03/2008 18:00

so whats going on with this?
why is she in care???

Veraduckworthshandbag · 15/03/2008 18:37

I was talking to someone about this today and they said it has been very fishy from the get go, their take on it was what if after seeing the amount of money donated to the McCanns appeal to find their child what if this family were on the make. Hide out with uncle Stevie for a while and see what happens.
Sadly the little girl was not pretty or cute and from a council estate living in a very dysfunctional family, not all cute like maddie with nice parents so the world looked away.

I don't know what the story is and to be truthful I do not really give a toss, I am just glad the little girl has been found safe, although I do not want to think about what the poor child has gone through, she is the victim in all this and not just over the last 24 days.
