Does anyone know of sniffer dogs have been used yet? I googled it but can’t see anything about them

I've seen cadaver dogs on the police diver boats on photos.
Not sure about land searches though.

This probably seems like such a crass thing to say but I just don’t think if you were planning to disappear that you’d take your dog with you and leave it. Nothing about this case makes any sense at all though. I am uncertain how anyone can say with any certainty that she wasn’t ever in the water. I’ve worked my whole career in the criminal justice system and the window of opportunity seems so tight for foul
play but as I said nothing about this is clear.

If you were planning to disappear you would do exactly the same thing that you would do everyday till you got to the point where you wanted to be. The phone could have been left because she does not want to be contacted. The dog could have been running between the gate and the bench because she freely walked through the gate to meet someone or make her way somewhere. You don't know if she was happy in her relationship, she could have met someone on the internet you just don't know. She is also a woman of a certain age she could be menapausel, she could have mental health issues. You just don't know but to continue to criticize the police is wrong.

I was discussing this with a good friend who works in CID. She pointed out that police advise women to vary their routes to work and home in case they are being watched. Sadly a woman who routinely walks her dog in an isolated place could be targeted. I’m not saying this happened here but it’s something to be aware of if you are a female dog walker.

Another thing to consider is quite how many women are attacked on tow paths. I didn’t realise until I tried to Google the cases of 2 other women attacked on tow paths about an hour away from St Michael.

Put it into Google and you’ll see what I mean.

Sorry if this is common knowledge, but I have never seen it mentioned: Where did Nichola park her car that morning?
Why is the only CCTV footage (for public display) from her own doorbell, much earlier..and released by her family?
What about the rest of her route to her parking place?
CCTV from roadside cameras/neighbouring homes?
When or if will follow up footage of Nichola be released?
Surely it should now be treated as a criminal investigation and as much information as possible should be released, in the hope of finding her as quickly as possible?

She parked at school
There is no cctv on the river path she went on to the field.
Police are asking for dashcam footage to try and get some.
The school is literally down the road. Bear in mind this is a tiny village with no shops or significant places to walk past that might have cctv.

@Togoodtobeforgotten I haven’t criticised the police.

"Does anyone know of sniffer dogs have been used yet? I googled it but can’t see anything about them"

Of course they fucking have. It's been 12 fucking days.

Sorry @ofwarren but I think I'm going to have to bow out now. Beyond a joke.

pigsinoodies · 08/02/2023 20:59

Yes, that's exactly what I meant. Hence leaving it until after it's resolved.

As it happens my own stretch of river has a body turn up every 3 months or so. That doesn't stop me loving my walks by it though.

Shock where the hell do you live that a body appears every 3 months?

"Also if abducted by a stranger, wouldn't the dog have followed/barked continuously. Similarly if she left off her own accord wouldn't the dog have followed her. Surely even a very obedient wouldn't just 'stay' even if told to if owner disappeared. It's all very odd"

Fuck Me. There's a gate.

LakeTiticaca · 08/02/2023 21:29

There is no evidence she went into the water and they is no evidence she was abducted. The whole world and his wife have a theory about where Nicola could be.
Police have now extended their search towards the sea

bellswithwhistles · 08/02/2023 21:18

With regard to the CCTV not working...I can't help but think that's deliberate, like it was planned.

I've only come across cctv not working twice - once when it could have confirmed an accident and once when it could have confirmed someone threatening someone. Both times it had been tampered with.

it can't just be a coincidence, surely?

I’d say the opposite. It often doesn’t work and people aren’t even aware. I have cctv at my home and it only bloomin works half the time.

itsnote · 08/02/2023 21:31

Let's hope they find her soon, wherever she is x

I need to start the next post with a summary of all the things we already know

  1. There's a gate
  2. The cctv is off at Rowanwater, not Wyresdale

Etc etc 🤣

I am surprised that Willow was tied up at around half past nine, but then not recovered for an hour and a half maybe ? (As the call to the school was at ten fifty I think? ) that is a really long time for other people not to have also walked the path and found both phone and dog. It sounds a popular dog walking spot. The river path near me, in a rural village, will have quiet periods but I would be very shocked if there was ever that much time in the day without walkers.

davegrohll · 08/02/2023 21:32

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 08/02/2023 21:19

I am not surprised that the abandoned house has been targeted given NB's friend's recent update. From the map, it looks like the house would have a strong vantage point of the fields and the bench, it's abandoned (whatever that means) and the police were refused entry without a warrant. I would definitely want it to be ruled out if I was family due to its proximity but the way these people are behaving it's totally unacceptable.

What is the recent update?

Goingforasong · 08/02/2023 21:32

I think it would be very strange for Nicola to have left her phone on a bench whilst on a call.

I spent some time working near a popular suicide spot. We were given some training by the police and one thing they say is that it is common for those that commit suicide to leave their phones (and wallets) somewhere. They told us to call 999 if we ever found a phone in the area. I wonder if the police have reason to suspect suicide in this case, and if she understood the river, she may have gone in and drowned on the other side of the weir after leaving her dog and phone in an obvious place where they would be found by another walker.

Those live videos are crazy..... That poor man sounds and looks terrified. I hope the police are there? This is really getting out of hand, those trespassers are being dicks.

What's happening ? Are people actually turning up at houses and demanding to look around? Seriously wtf

itsnote · 08/02/2023 21:33

@Pootle40 no. That's why I'm bowing out now.

People cba to even do the tiniest bit of back reading before thinking they've come up with the latest theory. They haven't. We've been over it all before. As have the police and anyone else who cares.

There is no cctv on the river path either. I suppose its possible she could have gone in the water after the weir?

It was low tide around 9.30am that day, so the river would have been at its shallowest. High tide not long after 3pm, so she could have floated slowly down between those times I suppose (although Peter F said it was extremely shallow at points and the dinghy got stuck), then the tide would have come in if she hadn't reached the bay and pushed her back up the river.

I think if it had been high tide it would be more plausible that she entered the water, was washed over the weir somehow, and was then washed downstream and into Morecambe Bay by an outgoing tide.
