Does anyone know what the go fund was actually for?

Genuinely wondering how many professional adults you know fall into the river randomly, mid call, in the winter whilst walking their dog, mysteriously banging their head on a rock and drowning never to be found?
It sounds preposterous.

They don’t! That’s why it’s called a freak accident when these events occur. I’m not sure why grown adults seem to find the concept of accidents being something out of the ordinary difficult to grasp 🙄

"Peter Faulding says he can’t understand why Nicola wasn’t found on the first day she went missing. He remains ‘baffled’.

He said: “Wherever she is I hope closure comes soon’"

Does anyone know what the go fund was actually for?

I believe it was to help support her husband and girls (with potential wages not coming in etc)

Does anyone know what the go fund was actually for?

I've just had a google and found this.

'In a Facebook post, the friend said a “simple act of kindness has been blown out of all proportions” after friends asked for a donations page.

She added that the “family were unaware” of the GoFundMe and said: “I have since removed and can only apologise to anyone”.

“I have never been through anything like this before and trying my best at this deeply upsetting time. Sorry I got this wrong,” Emma continued.

The fundraiser had gained backlash online as it had asked for money for Nicola’s husband and the search team, which is free.'

The family should start working with a documentary team from today, keep the questions going to the police.

This assumes the initial search was thorough without mistakes which quite possibly might be the wrong assumption.

Her friend said it was for her husband and the dive team.

It seems there was a backlash against this as the dive team are working for free, and also because she used the word husband when they are not married.

Her friend said she set it up without the partners knowledge.

Sugarfree23 · 08/02/2023 13:30

I'd take it to be the diving man feels he's done what he can. He doesn't think she is in the water. He gave credit to the professionalism of the police divers, said if she'd gone in where the bench was they'd have found her that afternoon.

H was volunteering his services, his men will still need to be paid, and he cannot work for nothing indefinitely.

I've got a dreadful feeling the police are going to push to wrap up the investigation.

I agree, they've pushed the falling in the river scenario, now they're leading us to Morcombe bay , planting the seed that NB could have drifted out to sea.....

Newtonsnipple · 08/02/2023 13:31

And it does appear that Emma was the one who released those cctv photos.

Were they taken from Nicola's own drive or Emma's? Not entirely sure why Emma was the one to release them and not Paul/ Emma's family?

The bigger question is why have the police not released any CCTV footage at all of Nicola on her walk from the school to the river and beyond. Did she not appear on any CCTV at all? If she didn't appear on any CCTV then why would anything else of any use? Do they not have any? And if they do, surely releasing CCTV footage of her walking the dog would be helpful?

More experience of drownings than Lancashire Police? It's absolutely guaranteed that he hasn't.

Nor more experience than the North West Police search team - who cover from North Wales to the Scottish border.

Plus the support from Fleetwood RNLI and coastguard.

It's not far from school to the river path so its possible there isn't any.
Hopefully some dashcam footage will be helpful.

Do you really think the police aren't doing this? They don't have to tell us every detail.

Regarding credibility of witnesses - I can't remember the name of the case but I think it was 2 girls that had gone missing (also in water) and the police appealed for witnesses, people came forward saying yes, they saw the girls walking home, one even said they stopped and spoke to them. It turned out not to be the case at all, the girls had been swimming and one of them had got into trouble and not come back, the other girl was too scared to say anything so she just went home (and revealed the truth later obviously) The other girl was very sadly found in the water (not alive) - so the people that said they saw the girls actually didn't. It's some sort of memory/recall mixup that can be quite common. I'll look for a link...

Plus the support from Fleetwood RNLI and coastguard.

He works on a daily basis with forces in the south of britain and has done so for years. This isn't a willy waving competition. They are all equally proficient but his company has the advantage of advanced sonar that the others may not possess.

Nicola’s friend was asked repeatedly by members of the community etc where they could donate money…. No doubt for private investigation, ongoing publicity and just ultimately the money that a family finding itself in a crisis like this would require, it’s quite the done thing these days to collect money for a family in crisis etc, there are thousands of pages set up for these purposes. A friend of Nicola’s friend helped set it up and made the mistake of calling Nicola’s partner her husband.

Yes I think there is nothing suspicious here. It was probably a bit misguided and she was probably tired and strung out, and just wanted to do the best. It backfired on her for sure, but there's nothing in it and it's best to just move on from it I think

Oaktree55 · 08/02/2023 13:38

I’m not sure how much more evidence the doubters need that bodies get swept away and take a long time to reappear than pretty much exact thing happening on same stretch of river previously. 2 months it took for body to surface in exactly same bendy “shallow” stretch!

coteliq · 08/02/2023 13:39

The police is at now risk of a major PR disaster. Many missing cases before never had such an early, firm, and unmoveable theory that the river is where she went.

As a pp stated about that case, the equipment to search was not advanced like it is now.

Totally agree. Genuinely think she was just trying to ‘do something’ and I can relate to that. Exhausted but in the zone, head on and trying to be proactive. Truly think she was just trying to keep going and make herself useful and keep busy.

It’s tidal!!! If the initial search was in anyway lacking then she’s been swept out as they missed her in those initial hours. They’ve not scanned the whole tidal area or the sea!!!!
