Genuinely wondering how many professional adults you know fall into the river randomly, mid call, in the winter whilst walking their dog, mysteriously banging their head on a rock and drowning never to be found?
It sounds preposterous.

Ok 'similar situations happen all the time'. Happy? Obviously not identical situations. But it's the claim that they've assumed she's not smart enough to stay away from the water because she's a woman that I was addressing.

I think she has slipped on wet rock/mud, hit her head and fallen into the river. It's almost impossible to search these kinds of rivers thoroughly because visibility is so bad, especially in January/February time. Unfortunately it's entirely possible she's being held under the water by her coat being trapped on something, she's only a slight woman. I suspect a body will surface in spring/summer. It's a tragedy.

This is what the sonar equipment is for
If she is there, the team will see her.

Op you shouldn't be discussing it at all on social media

You started it take responsibility. One poster actually naming a witness as a liar!!!!

Bloody disgusting

What does this mean, can someone catch me up!? Who is Emma, what GoFundMe and who took the dog out in the car? Thank you xx

Not allowed to speculate so will stick to purely facts.

Emma White is Nicola’s close friend.

She set up a go fund me for £100000 a few days after Nicola went missing. Then gradually dropped the total. Then apologised and completely deleted it as apparently Nicola’s mother/family were not aware of the go fund me. Not sure if Paul was aware or not.

She has been very involved with the media and appears to be being very supportive of Paul and the family, including accompanying him to the investigation site.

I apologise for speculations that she looks remarkably like Nicola in that doorcam footage. Apparently they dress the same and have similar hairstyles/cheek structure.

Underneath all of this is a real sense that we are not safe. The met rapist was only sentenced a few days ago, already at appeal because the sentence wasn’t deemed long enough.
The relentless barrage of violence and harm being done to women and girls.
There is a good reason why we are on here talking about this. Nicola is one of us. She is a mother, a dog lover and someone that we strongly identify with. It beggars belief that she would just disappear like this.

I can’t believe she just rolled into the river unnoticed, it just doesn’t sound remotely plausible.

Yes this is quite obviously the most likely thing that’s happened. Of course there’s a minute possibility it was something else but everything is pointing towards a tragic accident, literally everything is pointing towards this.

His accounts aren’t just late, the company is about to be struck off. However, that’s hardly a rare occurrence, he’s quite possibly registered it, but never traded under it, so there are no accounts and it will lapse like thousands of others.

There are accounts filed for the year before so he’s definately traded through it, thsts not to say this makes the strike off any more suspicious

Bitteplease · 08/02/2023 13:18

The odd thing I keep coming back to is the phone left on the grass near a tree.

So if she fell into the river, the phone surely shouldn't be there but down the slope OR on the bench if she decided to look for the dog or pick up dog poo etc.

So either abduction or willingly leaving are the options if you look at that alone. Unless somehow the dog pushed the phone onto the grass (but I have no clue as to how far the phone was found from the bench).

I read somewhere else that her ex had apparently declined to really comment, and that it was odd that he didn't say something along the lines of 'hope Nicola gets found' unless she's suffering from mental health issues or have done similar things in the past?

I would decline to comment to the media if my ex had gone missing though. I wouldn't read to much into that.

I've got a couple of theories which I'll keep to myself because it would be distasteful to speculate so I'll wait until it's resolved.

It will be interesting to find out how the police reached their conclusion that it was an accidental slip into the river but I think we'll only find this out once the inquiry is completed. My view (generally, not specific to this case) is that until options are ruled out they should be considered potential solutions. With an MPI it's too risky to just say "there's a 90% chance X happened so we'll leave it at that" - the police need to look at any potential cause, no matter if it's only a tiny fraction of a chance.

There's nothing suspicious about striking off a company. I'm literally in the process of doing it for mine, as I haven't traded through it for 3 years and it's more trouble than it's worth.

Hobbesmanc · 08/02/2023 13:20

2anddone · 08/02/2023 13:04

It's a very strange situation. I don't believe she is in the water, I don't think she has been abducted either. I think she has run off with someone she was having an affair with. It would explain the dog running backwards and forwards to the gate, if it was premeditated she could have been putting money to one side for weeks or months unnoticed and be living off that cash and her new partners income. Yes she is recognisable from the papers/news etc but nothing a change of hair colour and style wouldn't fix. I still think she will turn up alive.

You really believe that? Without any shred of evidence. Just your fervid gossipy imagination.

Just think logically. Anyone with the foresight to be able to hide income from their family and stash it away. Especially over Christmas, is hardly going to stage their disappearance with such a tiny window of opportunity with the added complications of a dog. It a tiny village with few roads out. How did she get away. Where is she now without id or passport etc

Mothers incredibly rarely abandon children

Plus it's 2023. This isn't sleeping with the enemy. She could just leave her life without any drama

Silly foolish rubbish

So you live down the road?

That gives you the right to spout slander and spite that her own family can read here. Witnesses to be named as suspicious or attention seekers

So glad you don't live near me

CaMePlaitPas · 08/02/2023 13:22

@ofwarren Indeed, but even if you get an anomaly these teams are still going to have to decide whether they send a diver down in very difficult, inaccessible circumstances or do nothing at all. You don't risk life to recover body.

I think they need to check the credibility of the witnesses. Was it definitely Nicola who was seen? Or did people just see woman in coat with dog and presume.

Do you really think the police aren't doing this? They don't have to tell us every detail.

carltonscroop · 08/02/2023 13:22

Guiltycat · 08/02/2023 11:46

Is the partner the children's dad? Just hadn't seen it stated anywhere and wondered.

They've said that they have been together for 12 years, and the DC are 9 & 6, so no suggestion that he isn't

CaMePlaitPas · 08/02/2023 13:23

A body that should say.

In any case I think it's a terrible accident and my heart goes out to her daughters.

Sad but not a surprising development really. I think he's offered all he can, he doesn't think she was ever in there. The police haven't wanted him there either, that is clear after last night's presser.

Not sure where this leaves the family now though.

WimbyAce · 08/02/2023 13:23

Often the truth is stranger than fiction. Look at the John Darwin case for example.

I've got a dreadful feeling the police are going to push to wrap up the investigation.
