I'm not a bot.

Was just trying to find out a bit more about the situation, build-up of current events beyond the surface information.

Found a lot of information from late last year (leaked Pandora Papers) - of course like all news it's Hmm

but he isn't some naïve young actor with a cute architect wife who accidentally fell into politics whilst playing Paddington?

Got my flameproof suit on but I just think in terms of information (especially as some Mumsnetters are probably using this forum as a primary source of information) it's useful to try to have a complete picture if you're thinking about how to engage with a situation that you're learning about.

Everyone comes into a situation from a different angle - I'm personally fairly uneasy with backing policies that put myself and people on the breadline at risk, by a multi-millionaire with substantial assets abroad with links to a billionaire who is already sanctioned by the EU and the US (awaits flaming).

(am I the only one who is hunting down a source of "unbiased news" regularly?)

I'm sure the regular media is aware of this and when it suits the narrative/story arc they'll bring it up again.

There was a video of Zelensky in the streets of Kyiv a few days ago with shots and explosions in the background if that was fake they are bloody good at it.

spacehardware · 10/03/2022 09:26

If there are contingency plans to extract him when things get just too dangerous, and for him to continue as leader in exile, good. Several European countries governments did this in WW2

TooBigForMyBoots · 10/03/2022 09:38

I know @gulliblestravels, it was all bulkshit though. I don't pity us, theres no reason to. I port the people of Ukraine and Russia.

Putin is a cunt and he looks like this Envy.

madbadrad · 10/03/2022 09:47

Zelenskyy is doing a brilliant job of leading his army and his country who are firmly behind him. The blame here lies solely at Russia's door. It's an unprovoked war of aggression, targeting innocent civilians, bombing a maternity and children's hospital is one such unspeakable act of evil. Something very odd about this thread.

gulliblestravels · 10/03/2022 10:04

Like everything else, time will tell. As I said, pity is all because this ‘thing’ will not be contained.

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 10/03/2022 10:11

@Hawkins001 Yes obviously I would be able to support Boris in that situation even if he's a bastard the rest of the time. I can't stand the man but if he was on the streets defending us from an invasion I'd be willing to overlook a hell of a lot for the time being

NoOtherShadeOfBlue · 10/03/2022 11:19

Something tells me none of us will ever be in the position of having to reevaluate our opinion of Johnson due to an act of bravery and heroism on his part. We are talking about the man who hid in a fridge when asked an awkward question, right?

EllieQ · 10/03/2022 11:54

@gulliblestravels

It was reported last week Zelensky is in a US Embassy in Poland, and US had contingency plans for him to continue as a leader in exile. Pretty sure Ukraine is the chessboard upon which an east/west battle for domination is playing out. You can already see the BRICS nations lining up, with many more, against the west.

Pity us all, we are just sacrificial pawns, sitting here typing and arguing with each other, while little people die, and starve, and rich men get richer.

And where was this reported? Are you going to provide a link so we can all critically analyse the information as the OP suggests?
TooBigForMyBoots · 10/03/2022 12:20

@EllieQ, it was Kremlin Fake News. Zelensky showed the lying bastards for what they are by broadcasting daily from Ukraine to show the Ukrainians that he is still there.

The contrast between the two men on screen is stark. You have Zelensky, in his warzone country with his team close by. Then you have Putin, newly botoxed, warm and comfy in his office but so paranoid that he's keeping his own generals a verrry looonnnnngggg table away.

Putin is a cunt and he looks like this Envy.

Gosh. An anti-Putin evangelical fundamentalist.
Frothing is back on mumsnet. Kinda missed it.

spacehardware · 10/03/2022 13:53

Could you link us to the source you referred to please gullible?

EllieQ · 10/03/2022 13:59

Thanks @TooBigForMyBoots, I had assumed it was fake but it would be interesting to see where it had been published/ reported. No response as yet, funnily!

time4anothername · 10/03/2022 14:00

Tweet from Bellingcat today about Putin's online army recruitment drive. There's a lot of trolling in the replies but also some interesting points from genuine accounts about how they've noticed bot and troll accounts run from countries where Putin's propaganda machine has been working in advance to lay the ground for anti Ukraine feeling

As for Zelensky and some offshore money, well if the OP was actually plugged in to Brit culture, they'd know we've had examples of our Brit comedians and politicians in the Panama papers. No one is happy about it but to try to use it to justify the murderous and brutal regime that Putin's machine is, is laughable, especially as Putin and his cronies are just a mafia that use the oligarchs as money men and destroy any of them that try to bring change. Putin, Lavrov etc offshore money may not appear in the papers but that's because the Oligarchs that are in international business are their screen. There are flight logs of the Oligarchs second, third etc jets and yachts that prove that they are at the disposal of the mafiosi politicians running the country.

@Igneococcus

I'm against deleting this thread, these discussions need be out in the open where they can be challenged and debated and evidenced, but equally, saying this as a non-British person who has lived in Scotland for 20 years now, it is fucking (and I swear as much as I like, Hawkins001) annoying that every single issue and argument is always met with a "but Boris" or "but the evil TOOOORIIIEES!!!". It's hust shutting down discussions in a different way.
Bless you, seems I've certainly made a name for myself, I'm not against swearing as such, my objective was at that time, to ask everyone via the Socratic methods, why they just wanted to curse rather than actually answer the ops question and debate the issue.

By using the Socratic methods, I hoped if I asked why x poster or posters in General why, then I hoped they may realise themselves that it is more productive to engage debate, rather than just curse.

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/03/2022 00:34

Your post calling me anti-Putin got me thinking @gulliblestravels.🤔 Is anyone actually pro-Putin?

Igneococcus · 11/03/2022 06:51

The few times I noticed your username in posts Hawkins001 it's been pretty much always telling someone off for not fullfilling your high standards of debate, but I've never noticed much evidence that you do engage in a discussion using your beloved Socratic method.

Do you think the OP cares about the Socratic method?

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 11/03/2022 09:30

@TooBigForMyBoots

Your post calling me anti-Putin got me thinking *@gulliblestravels*.🤔 Is anyone actually pro-Putin?
There's quite a bit of support for him on the #IndiawithRussia hashtag on Twitter. Basically saying that Russia has supported India over a number of international issues and disputes in the past (and they do give examples, must admit I wasn't well informed on this) so they now support Russia. Shows how much of all this comes from historical bad feeling.

I notice OP hasn't answered my questions about their own views, feelings and recommendations. How surprising. Also wonder when we'll ever get the link to this 'report' mentioned by the bot poster just a bit earlier.

I thought it was just the Daily Mail trawling Mumsent for stories.

But the Guardian does it too I think. There was an article today about countries in the Global South staying neutral in the war.

Many points made in previous Mumsnet threads about NAM and Lithuanian sanctions against Bangladesh propped up in the Guardian article. Too much of a convenient coincidence..

gulliblestravels · 11/03/2022 10:29

@skiptheheartsandflowers

You only need to search Zelensky Poland on DDG, why wait for me?

And I guess you’ll do the fake news thing, and maybe they are, but there is no way of telling that the resources you cite are any more accurate. So, its not a case of taking sides but being open to question, not trust, the narrative.

One point that (probably) can be proven is that Kamala Harris flew to Poland. 🤷‍♀️

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 11/03/2022 10:44

@Amrapaali I really, really do not think they are trawling Mumsnet for stories, although I have been enjoying you and @ABitBesotted doing a Statler and Waldorf on the sidelines projecting colonialism onto the rest of us.

ABitBesotted · 11/03/2022 11:02

According to a local, the Zelensky flight rumours started when about a week ago a heavily-armed motorcade passed over the border, waved through by guards with machine guns who forced everyone else to make way. There were many witnesses and inevitably people began to speculate.

Who was actually in the car is anyone's guess. I'd be amazed were Zelensky to do a Charles de Gaulle, tbh. The Gallic and Slavic souls, and notions of courage, are rather different.

You referred to this source, not me. 'Why wait for me'? Because you mentioned it but didn't give a link. Do the work yourself if you are claiming it's something people should know about!

Ha ha, more of this 'it's all the same, both sides deceive' stuff. The BBC offer some interesting guidance for young people on spotting fake news and questioning its narrative on the Young Reporter account. Maybe start there if judging the reliability of a source is really stumping you?
