I'm not a bot.

Was just trying to find out a bit more about the situation, build-up of current events beyond the surface information.

Found a lot of information from late last year (leaked Pandora Papers) - of course like all news it's Hmm

but he isn't some naïve young actor with a cute architect wife who accidentally fell into politics whilst playing Paddington?

Got my flameproof suit on but I just think in terms of information (especially as some Mumsnetters are probably using this forum as a primary source of information) it's useful to try to have a complete picture if you're thinking about how to engage with a situation that you're learning about.

Everyone comes into a situation from a different angle - I'm personally fairly uneasy with backing policies that put myself and people on the breadline at risk, by a multi-millionaire with substantial assets abroad with links to a billionaire who is already sanctioned by the EU and the US (awaits flaming).

(am I the only one who is hunting down a source of "unbiased news" regularly?)

I'm sure the regular media is aware of this and when it suits the narrative/story arc they'll bring it up again.

@CoastalWave

I'm think there is a LOT more to this than we are being told. I don't believe it's just bad Russia invading Ukraine for no reason whatsoever.

What about the links with Russia/Ukraine and Biden? Not a coincidence in the slightest.

Nobody thinks Putin invaded "for no reason". Putin has a deep and long held desire to being Ukraine (which he doesn't believe exists) into Russia. He believes essentially that the Soviet Union ought to be reformed. He made his first major move on this while Obama was president.
SandyStrawToad · 08/03/2022 21:55

"millions of people are being murdered"

Link? Hmm

I suspect he’s still far less dodgy than our own PM and his chums in the cabinet. And also a million times braver than any of them.

TabithaHazel · 08/03/2022 21:56

What has this go to do with anything currently going on?!

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 08/03/2022 21:56

I guess that means the Russian army should just flatten Kharkiv then...

Yorkshirelass04 · 08/03/2022 21:57

What a distasteful post.

'Whataboutery' of the highest order.

Twinstudy · 08/03/2022 21:57

But it has absolutely nothing to do with what is happening today.

It just annoys me the same way that it annoys me when rich Tory PM's suggest we show solidarity and make sacrifices?

And bears absolutely no relation to this whatsoever. Zelenzkyy is literally prepared to sacrifice his life to fight for his country.

If you're not a bot then I'm Putin.

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 08/03/2022 21:57

@SandyStrawToad Every tweeter and their dog is handwringing about how the Ukrainians might be racist lol

Ncwinc · 08/03/2022 21:57

If you’re interested in the Pandora papers, take a look at the Russians who’ve donated to the Conservatives.

I've been thinking similar today OP. Maybe I'm just cynical (as I'm sure loads of people are after two years of covid media) but after spending the day reading up on more balanced / nuanced arguments I'm pretty sure there is a lot more to this than we are being told and it's not half as black and white as the propaganda machines on either side are making it out to be.

Yorkshirelass04 · 08/03/2022 21:59

The reason OP you haven't seen this information elsewhere I suspect is because nobody gives a fuck about someone's offshore accounts when Ukraine is being invaded.

Hopeandglory · 08/03/2022 21:59

just like to say that someone who stays in the shit when he is offered a number of get out routes has my vote. You never know when your hero moment may happen but he has found his!

givethatbabyaname · 08/03/2022 22:00

I’m sure there’s a psychology to both (a) not being able to hold in mind more than one unpalatable truth at a time (b) willful blind ignorance. We so want a world of heroes and villains. In truth, we are none of us either one or the other.

nongnangning · 08/03/2022 22:00

am I the only one who is hunting down a source of "unbiased news" regularly?

Who sent you OP? Was it:
Vlad?
Donald Trump?
Living Marxism (whatever they are called now)?
Dominic Cummings and the Brexit people?

Do pop off back to Facebook whenever you like

2tired2bewitty · 08/03/2022 22:01

If you prefer your war leaders pure as the driven snow I suggest you don’t look too hard at our own dear Mr Churchill

TheYearOfSmallThings · 08/03/2022 22:01

Do you feel he expects to be enjoying the use of those assets in the medium turn?

Ncwinc · 08/03/2022 22:01

Grin at ‘regular media’

Is that after someone pointed out earlier that the phrase ‘mainstream media’ is a a sure-fire indicator of a conspiracy theorist nutjob?

SandyStrawToad · 08/03/2022 22:02

Not sure of the relevance of the random "what about the tories" posts? I'm not Priti Patel.

As far as I'm aware the Tories have led a standing ovation for receiving Zelensky's speech in the House of Commons.

There's a lot of "not very clever" insults so thanks, I've been on Mumsnet long enough to know the score.

OP posts:
pucelleauxblanchesmains · 08/03/2022 22:02

All I see on here is "there's more to this than we are being told" but no indication of what "more to this" might actually be. Is it Soros, New World Order, something weird about Jewish people... Just spit it out FFS.
Stop idolising bloody nuance when Putin has outright stated he doesn't believe Ukraine to be a real country and regrets that the Soviet Union allowed states to leave. We've seen what he's done in Grozny and in Syria and a mix of handwringing do-gooders (I genuinely could not give a flying fuck at this time if some Ukrainians are racist) and QAnoners are on here bleating about NUANCE. Sod off.

Rinatinabina · 08/03/2022 22:03

Wonder how much Putin has stolen? 🤔 I believe he’s a billionaire isn’t he? Even our politicians don’t manage that.

Anyhoo, I don’t think his offshore bank account is the reason civilians are being bombed in Ukraine.

givethatbabyaname · 08/03/2022 22:03

Putin is on record as saying that anyone who thinks Russia is looking to reconstitute the USSR doesn’t understand Russia and is “stupid”.

Personally, I think he’s much more bothered about being surrounded on the western flank by NATO countries with a clear view at world supremacy.

And before anyone says it 🙄, no, invading a sovereign state isn’t the solution.

amicissimma · 08/03/2022 22:03

"Why would a Russian bot care about a website dedicated to random chat about parking places and debates about school places? "

You must be new to Mumsnet to think that. Have a trawl through old AIBU and Chat threads on many different political, semipolitical and general current affairs issues.

Ncwinc · 08/03/2022 22:04

Look at the millions in donations that the Conservative party have taken from Russian donors. If you’re looking for direct links to dodgy billionaires …

StoneofDestiny · 08/03/2022 22:05

We have a totally corrupt Prime Minister. I'm more worried about that.

JuliaSways · 08/03/2022 22:05
