No wonder she legged it then
Get the money and run
will be very interesting to hear full story though - sounds like a film plot!

just wondering if she had been given the cash by his pension fund(s) and had the house paid off by employment insurance, etc, etc before he resurfaced.

[calculates how to ask dh to disappear for a few yrs....]

bossybritches · 04/12/2007 15:57

Must have -quite legitamately too if we're being generous....aren't we?!

But his coincidental re-appearance smells a bit fishy......

kiskidee · 04/12/2007 19:07

i was listening to the radio, can't remember which station, and i remember them saying that Clevland Police was always (unofficially) suspicious of this case. The old fishermen say that if something got lost in that bay, it always washed up within 6 high tides at Redcar further down the coast. Also another policeman combing the beach said much later on stated that as far as he was concerned, they were searching the wrong beach and would have a better chance of finding him on one in Malaga.

bossybritches · 04/12/2007 20:05

Also didn't someone say it was very still & calm that day as opposed to popular belief that he was "swept out to sea" ??

Oho Holmes we are getting closer to the truth....I think!

how weird? any updates?

Piffle · 04/12/2007 22:38

it was reported he was declared legally dead with indecent haste... 2003 I think I saw....

WendyWeber · 04/12/2007 22:40

Mind you Steve wotsit's wife is asking for him to be declared dead and he just crashed somewhere in America in the last couple of months

edam · 04/12/2007 22:51

love the quote from his aunt. " To be honest I don't believe he ever got wet."

Spidermama · 04/12/2007 22:53

The Mail tommorrow is reporting the wife says she 'did it' for the insurance.

A Reggie Perrin job?

bossybritches · 04/12/2007 23:07

gawd knows but if you WERE doing it for the insurance why not wait the full 7 years??

(they'd done over 5...)

After 7 years she could have declared him officially dead pocketed the insurance/pension & quietly set up a new life (together or apart) in Panama or Tmbukbloodytoo!!

jofeb04 · 05/12/2007 08:05

Just heard the news this morning, and he has been arrested!

bossybritches · 05/12/2007 08:43

And she's saying she knew nothing about it & will give the insurance money back if neccessary, but she's not rushing home to see him.

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 05/12/2007 08:46

All very odd.

Twill be a film - you mark my words!

kiskidee · 05/12/2007 08:52

heard on R4 this morning that there was a photo taken of both of them in Panama last yr.

wheresthehamster · 05/12/2007 09:20

It's supposed to be on the "move to panama" website but I can't seem to get on it. Perhaps everyone's trying to do the same thing!

Threadworm · 05/12/2007 09:28

FioFio, he lived in Seaton Carew. So if he'd ended up in Redcar, he would have thought he was in heaven.

hunkermunker · 05/12/2007 09:35

PMSL at Carmenere's "How do you go missing in a canoe ffs??"

I think the whole thing is a tissue of whoppers. Read this morning (in Metro, so must be true) that a credit card had been applied for in this bloke's name and he'd been seen around the town (I think, may be misremembering - ah, who cares?!).

WW, Steve wotsit - is that the bloke Richard Branson was looking for?
