Fran - so glad that you are getting some peace and can enjoy the last few weeks of your pregnancy.

Please let us know when Molly makes an appearance

ruty · 26/11/2007 09:02

oldstraighttrack you are a social worker IIRC. you really worry me by giving credence to that piece of writing that has no evidence to its name, only vitriol and name calling. I mean why is it relevant that John Hemmings is a 'serial adulterer'? Does that render his point of view redundant? No. It is none of anyone's business but his wife's and his. And repeatedly calling Fran Lyon a drama queen as one's only way of discrediting her? How revolting and utterly misoygynist of the writer. Really, oldstraighttrack, this worries me.

bossybritches · 26/11/2007 09:58

If my child was going to be forcibly taken from me at 10 minutes old I think a few dramatics suich as leaving the country would be the calmest of options frankly.

The article was badly-researched & poorly written & OST I question your motives in sharing it with us as you have made a point of posting it on other threads about FL.

Upwind · 26/11/2007 10:00

From oldstraighttrack's link:

"He needs a dose in women psychology to understand the actual hidden agendas here"

Because only a woman would see through Fran? That "different take" reads like a poison-pen letter. That it was seemingly written by a psychiatrist Dr Rita Pal is truly disturbing. She is a supporter of David Southall and has written some extraordinary drivel about the court case see here

I googled Rita Pal, and the first link that appeared is a blog supporting her. A few quotes from court documents are used to support the idea that she is being victimised, for example:

"November 30 2000, from Peter Lynn (GMC):
'...she may be suffering from mental illness...Her correspondence, particularly the document I have flagged, certainly demonstrate that Dr Pal is extremely irrational...there must be some concern about this doctor having direct access to patients.'"

There is something truly weird going on here with so many allegations of mental illness causing an inability to cope with work or children. The nhsexposed blog certainly offers a different take on the Fran Lyon case but one from a less than rational perspective! Is there anyway of finding out if Rita Pal is still practicing medicine?

Piffle · 26/11/2007 10:06

Yes like sitting back and doing nothing to prevent her child being taken is planning to be a good mother.
FFS they were not even going to give Fran the chance to try...

bossybritches · 26/11/2007 10:08

Drivel is right Upwind!!

FFS What has salivating over the looks of the defence counsel got to do with the case???!!

Shows where her priorities lie!

Bouncingturtle · 26/11/2007 10:09

Poor Fran, so sad she has been driven to this. But she seems a very bright and level headed young woman and it sounds like she is doing all the right things where she is.
Best of luck to you and Molly, Fran.

TheMolesMother · 26/11/2007 10:22

Upwind - as far as I can tell Dr Pal is not practising medicine. She describes herself in one entry on the blog as "unemployed".

She outlines her story on the blog. In 1998 she claims to have blown the whistle on bad practice in a hospital that was part of North Staffs NHS Trust and to have been subjected to a campaign by the Trust, the GMC and almost anyone else you can name as a result. She also claims to have taken the GMC to court over this issue and won.

Dr Pal also seems to have a personal feud going on against several people involved in campaigning on behalf of parents accused of MSbP - freelance journalist Brian Morgan, John Hemming MP and particularly Penny Mellor. I suspect it is this feud which inspires the rather vitriolic blog entry about Fran, not Fran herself.

I haven't cross checked any of Dr Pal's claims about her own story. All the info quoted above comes from her website.

Radio 4, Woman's Hour is talking about Fran now.

ruty · 26/11/2007 10:28

really scary.

edam · 26/11/2007 10:36

damn, missed Woman's Hour, did anyone hear it?

fryalot · 26/11/2007 10:37

just caught the last couple of minutes and all I heard was a lot of initials which didn't mean anything to me

Anyone give us a recap?

edam · 26/11/2007 10:37

btw, I tried to comment on the NHS Exposed blog to point out there is nothing remotely 'amusing' about this case. Comment hasn't appeared. Wonder if it ever will.

bossybritches · 26/11/2007 10:38

me too? The listen agaian facility should have it shouldn't it?

edam · 26/11/2007 10:40

I guess it will take them a little time to get an item that's just finished up onto Listen Again...

bossybritches · 26/11/2007 10:42

Booger can't find it!

Aitch · 26/11/2007 10:42

they said she was in b'ham, oddly. i wonder if she is or not?

sandybeach · 26/11/2007 10:44

Radio4 had John Hemmings on answering questions about the case. But basically the whole ss secrecy thing meant it couldn't really be discussed properly. Someone even question if Molly will be taken away . They didn't mention that she has left the country.

There seemed to be a bit of a damned if you do damned if you don't intervene attitude.

bossybritches · 26/11/2007 10:45

Maybe the leaving the country thing was just a decoy? Nah....she'd have to be registered with a midwife...unless she's got one prepared to see her privately & not ask questions?

Risky though for all concerned-don't think she'd do that!

Aitch probably just not caught up?

Edam yes I shouldgive it a mo shouldn't I?!

Aitch · 26/11/2007 10:50

hmmm, i very much think that the woman's hour team would be very up on what's going in the daily mail, it's totally a wifie's paper.

edam · 26/11/2007 10:51

I hope to God she has actually left the country. At least it would give her a chance to prove she's just an ordinary mum.

Aitch · 26/11/2007 10:54

weel, wouldn't the best case be to let B'ham SS handle it. presumably under fire of all this publicity they'd be inclined to work with her rather than against her, but if not then it would presumably mean that there is something we don't know that's deadly serious.

sandybeach · 26/11/2007 10:59

Aitch - there were questions about whether birmingham ss could process the case in time to change the birth plan before she gave birth. And that is saying they will change it...??

ruty · 26/11/2007 11:00

but would Woman's Hour blow her cover?
And Aitch, Birmingham may feel allegiance to Hexham SS and feel they will have to go along with their strategy, no? If they don't change tack it doesn't necessarily mean there is something deadly serious we don't know about, although if there were surely there would be some inkling by now...

Aitch · 26/11/2007 11:04

her cover's been blown by the daily mail if she's gone, and if not then woman's hour.
i think under the circumstances that B'ham SS would have been able to process it, according to Fran it's not complicated. according to Fran...
it's exciting that she's having a baby, totally happy for her, totally sickened by the way she's been treated but if she is in B'ham i personally think that's the right thing.
