i can totally understand why she wouldn't trust them to be unbiased Aitch.

edam · 26/11/2007 11:08

Birmingham may feel they can't overturn the decision of another SS dept. without doing their own investigation. To protect their own backs, at least. Which would take time.

And the publicity may prejudice Birmingham against her - people in any organisation have a tendency to defend their colleagues against outside criticism. We've had SWs posting here who say they prefer to believe Hexham were doing a good job...

lemonaid · 26/11/2007 11:13

According to DM article (hmm, that may be the first time I've used that phrase in all seriousness) her concern was that Birmingham seemed to be dragging their feet on doing their own assessment, and until they did the previous action plan stood, and her due date was getting closer and closer so that she had reached the point of being terrified she was going to go into labour.

bossybritches · 26/11/2007 11:15

Aitch - womans hour usually do their research pretty thoroughly don't they?

Basically no-one knows for sure except Frans family & a few close friends & it's probably safest that way.

Please god it all works out for them both & that Fran remains well both physically & mentally after Molly's birth, she's been through so much, everyone must agree on that whichever side of the fence they're on.

FranLyon · 26/11/2007 11:25

Hello,

I'm a bit puzzled I have to say! I didn't hear the program, but I'll try and catch it on listen again. I most certainly am out of the country.

If I'd been a bit earlier in the pregnancy I'd have stayed and tried to work things out with Birmingham. At 34 weeks though I was running out of time, and to be honest, sanity. I need (and Molly does too) these last few weeks to regain some sense of security and stability.

Thanks,

Fran

Heathcliffscathy · 26/11/2007 11:28

I think this article is fair

bossybritches · 26/11/2007 11:28

Hi Fran!

I bet you did- hope you are getting some peace & quiet anyway Wherever you Are??!!

Aitch · 26/11/2007 11:32

well yes, i wouldn't have thought they'd have made a mistake. echo your wish that everyone stays well and is happy.

Aitch · 26/11/2007 11:35

x-posted. stay well.

bossybritches · 26/11/2007 11:36

BTW that wasn't a hint for your location, ignorance is bliss!!

FranLyon · 26/11/2007 11:37

Hi Bossy,

You do make me smile!! I'm thoroughly enjoying my new found peace and quiet - as is Molly if her somersaults are anything to go by!

Hi Sophable,

I'd agree with it being fair about my situation - I don't think it's fair with regard to the other people it discusses. I think it perhaps has a bit of it's own agenda, but then I understand that no-one is totally ambivalent or impartial.

Besides, we'd all be a bit lost if the press suddenly stopped sniping at one another.

Fran

VeryLittleCarrot · 26/11/2007 11:37

Fran, I'm relieved you're out, and safe. I hope you can focus on enjoying the last few weeks of your pregnancy without fear. You probably need rest and peace more than most right now.

I also hope that enough of a public outcry ensues over your case that the secrecy and unquestioned autonomy of SS are called into question and changed.

And if it is your wish, that you can return home without fear, in the knowledge that you and Molly will be able to be the family you should be.

I wish you the very best.

ruty · 26/11/2007 11:38

it may be fair sophable, but i'm not quite sure what gornall is trying to say. the story has been hijacked by the media? Well if it wasn't for the media the SS would be able to go about all this and take Fran's baby without question. The details have not been properly represented? Don't agree. I know the SS were contacted after a problem incident with Fran's ex, for example. Gornall does not shed light on why the SS are acting the way there are, there is an assumed, 'let the SS go about their business they know what they are doing' which in light of the evidence we have, and the previous miscarriages of justice in this area, is not entirely logical.

FranLyon · 26/11/2007 11:41

Ooops. I think I can clarify things. I've found an e-mail from Woman's Hour languishing in my inbox, woefully unread. (Apologies Radio 4 - it wasn't anything personal!)

I'm guessing that given that I evidently didn't respond that they didn't want to just repeat what had been said in the DM without confirming it.

Sorry for the confusion - I will be more rigorous with my mail in future!

Fran

bossybritches · 26/11/2007 11:41

Fran if I can make you smile after all you've been through then great!!

Isn't it lovely when they do somersaults like that? If a little uncomfortable at times!

bossybritches · 26/11/2007 11:43

Sophabel why bring up that link now? We have seen it posted & have re-hashed its content ad nauseam. It was published in September!

AnAngelWithin · 26/11/2007 11:46

fran good luck and enjoy your baby girl. stay safe. x x

FranLyon · 26/11/2007 11:48

Her toes get caught under my ribs now which gives rise to the occasional "ouch" - but otherwise, yes, it's amazing to feel her stretching and wriggling.

Wishing you much luck xx

Bouncingturtle · 26/11/2007 12:50

Hi Fran,

Glad to hear you sounding so positive! Those little kicks are so wonderful, I'm 36 weeks pg and I still love to get wriggles and squirms and kicks!

Hope you are putting your feet up and getting plenty of rest.

Best wishes,

BT

edam · 26/11/2007 12:51

Sophable's perfectly at liberty to post links - she may not have known it had already been discussed.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 26/11/2007 12:58

Link to Trevor Macdonald programme tonight.

The article accompanying it says a few interesting things:

  1. 'Tonight' journalists have seen the birthplan with the loopy thing about Fran not being allowed to breastfeed in case she poisons the baby
  2. it says how Fran is financing her move abroad
  3. it says Fran had several hospital visits with what were unexplained symptoms before they got diagnosed as angioedema (which presumably is where SS got the erroneous idea that she might have MSBP)

Fran - so glad you've moved abroad. Hope it all goes swimmingly from now on & you build a happy life in your new home with Molly.

Elizabetth · 26/11/2007 13:21

Jonathan Gornall who wrote the article Sophable linked to is another big supporter of David Southall. Just so the agendas are all visible here.

And if we're going to go down the Rita Pal gossip route, Rita Pal herself thinks he's dishy. It's a teeny-tiny community the MSPB people, both for and against.
