Poor woman. I wish her all the best. It is shameful that in this has been allowed to happen.

suwoo · 25/11/2007 07:50

Poor, poor woman. I will be very interested to see the Trevor McDonald programme tomorrow. I wish her and Molly a happy and safe future together

StealthPolarBear · 25/11/2007 07:55

I hope it will work out for her and her baby. I wonder where she's gone

Freckle · 25/11/2007 08:30

I hope it all works out for her and that she and her baby have a happy life together.

I do wonder, in these cases, where people get their money from to just move abroad. I know I couldn't just up sticks and move due to financial constraints.

ruty · 25/11/2007 08:32

I wish her all the luck in the world. I just hope that now she can prove to SS that she is a good mother and then return eventually without the fear of having her child taken. Good luck Fran!

ruty · 25/11/2007 08:33

i hope she had some financial assistance from somewhere.

Hekate · 25/11/2007 08:42

I bet she's had some help. I know I would have paid for her if I'd had the money - perhaps someone wealthy contacted her anonymously.

I hope it works out for her, and I hope that she is ok and that the baby is ok.

If something good can come of this, it is that social services and this whole baby-snatching by the state, to meet adoption targets, has been thrust into the spotlight.

The sad thing is that nobody knows which of us is a risk to a child that isn't born yet Fran will most likely be a fine mother, but she might struggle....she could get pnd, for example, any of us can, but NOW, because of SS, she'll never ask for help, even if she does struggle.

ruty · 25/11/2007 08:43

That's the worry HeKate - anyone can be vulnerable to post natal depression, etc, and Fran will n ot be able to get any support because of the position SS have put her in. I just hope she'll have someone around to support her through difficult times. Be strong Fran.

I don't blame her, I really, really don't. I think I'd have done the same.

Upwind · 25/11/2007 09:36

I would definitely have done the same. I have a history of depression, and when this case first became public my DH and I agreed that if we ever felt threatened by SS we would leave the country ASAP.

It need not take a huge amount of money to go abroad and rent a bedsit or similar. Most of us would be able to manage like that for a few months before needing to get a source of income/social welfare.

The difficulty with settling abroad is that few of us speak other languages. Making Ireland and the Netherlands the only obvious destinations for someone in that position.

The Websters were extradited from Ireland in a similar situation - does that mean that all European countries would do the same under EU law?

talktothebees · 25/11/2007 09:53

Oh Upwind thank you, you've just instantly made me feel less paranoid. DD has been referred to the hospital for a couple of minor problems and I'm so nervous about being in close contact with the paeds because I have quite a long history of depression. I keep running this scenario in my head where they find some minor injury and immediately suspect me and call SS. The first appointment is on Thursday and DD currently has a bruise on her knee from lord knows where. The closer the appointment gets, the more anxious I feel. I actually feel sick just thinking about it now.

Poor desperate Fran. What choice did SS give her really? She has nothing to lose by running.

ScoobyDoo · 25/11/2007 09:57

I am so so glad for Fran & baby Molly, i would have left & run to the other side of the world if i had to just to have my baby with me.

So does it mean because she is no longer in this country SS have no rights? Also does she have to stay out of this country & what would happen if she wanted to return? would they be straight onto her even years down the line?

Fran if your reading this i wish you all the luck in the world, i am sure you will be a fantastic mum & enjoy every minute of your baby girl Molly

Judy1234 · 25/11/2007 10:34

I wonder how she can get back. How she can ever be sure if she returns her baby won't be taken away by spiteful social workers. I see she got As at A level and is at Edinburgh doing a degree.I hope they let her finish that from a distance too.

mamazon · 25/11/2007 10:45

i hope that both she and her daughter are happy together and that wherever she is they are s\fe and well.

although i have an overwhelming hope that the professionals who had the initial concern arer all wrong.

nutcracker · 25/11/2007 10:47

I would do the same too.

I just hope that mean old busy body doesn't shop her as soon as she is spotted where ever she is.

chocolatespiders · 25/11/2007 10:53

all the very best to her....

Fran I hope your baby Molly brings you lots of love and happiness....

franke · 25/11/2007 11:00

I felt so relieved when I read this. I suspect that any European country (if that is where she is) will give her more reasonable treatment compared to her experiences so far. If ss were vindictive enough to try and have her extradited, I suspect they would be on extremely flimsy ground with their case. I wonder how the ridiculous msbp is viewed outside of the UK?

edam · 25/11/2007 11:04

Fran's been posting on MN so I hope she's reading this and knows there are lots of people here who wish her and Molly all the very best.

I'd do the same in her circumstances. And I hope whichever country she's gone to treats her fairly and doesn't fall for the hysteria and lack of logical assessment of the evidence which seems to afflict SS in this country as soon as MSbP - something that was dreamt up by a now discredited 'expert' - is mentioned.

They seem incapable of intelligent thought. When you present someone with an allegation and they respond by saying if you are right then x, y, z follows that does not mean 'you are right'. It does not bolster your case!

A few years ago it was the ridiculous fantasies about Satanic abuse that got SWs all over-excited. Then that mad old bat Marietta Higgs and her invention of a 'diagnostic test' for child abuse - swiftly discredited by anyone with an ounce of common sense (she claimed if she shoved a finger up a child's bum and their sphincter opened it was proof that they had had anal sex, IIRC).

They have learnt NOTHING from these past cases of mass hysteria - the SWs who have been proven to have lied to the courts and tormented children in the bizarre 'Satanic abuse' cases are still working in the profession.

There needs to be a root and branch review of practice by SS when there are allegations that someone 'might' abuse their children with no evidence whatsoever of actual abuse AND the misuse of 'expert' evidence particularly when that expert has featured in proven miscarriages of justice. And some training in basic English and basic logic.

Slacker · 25/11/2007 11:05

Is it not the case that with the couple who went to Ireland there had already been court proceedings against them so they could be extradited, whereas with Fran it's all just threats until the baby is actually born? So she should legally be free to go and live wherever she likes (what would happen if she came back to the UK though?)

Best of luck to her and Molly, social services have behaved disgracefully.

WideWebWitch · 25/11/2007 11:08

Fran if you're reading this I hope you're ok and I hope you've got some support. Many of us would have done the same thing in your situation.

edam · 25/11/2007 11:18

good point slacker

Monkeytrousers · 25/11/2007 11:41

That's horrific - I'd never heard of this.

I live near Hexham. It's terrible tha she be put under such stress. To remove your child 10 minutes after birth - it's like they are trying to push her over the edge to prove a point!
