Asylum seeker from Uganda, found dead in a Govan flat after losing her leave to remain and as a result, her job.

I think this is horrific.

At least Priti Patel will be pleased.

Beyond comprehension . What have we become 💔

MaxNormal · 25/08/2020 16:43

I read about this earlier today. Absolutely heart-breaking case, I cannot imagine the fear, loneliness and despair that poor poor woman suffered.

formerbabe · 25/08/2020 16:43
Sad
Parkandride · 25/08/2020 16:44

Really got to me reading this earlier, horrific Sad we should be so much better than this

Pugdoglife · 25/08/2020 16:45

Absolutely horrific

Gingernaut · 25/08/2020 16:45

How is this even possible?

I know there'll be an inquest and, possibly and inquiry (!), but still.

How?

Horrendous. What have we come to?

Ellamiss · 25/08/2020 16:46

They don’t know the cause of death yet do they? Are you implying it’s starvation of the mother or something else?
It’s so sad and I hope the baby recovers and the relatives can look after him.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/08/2020 16:48

YANBU. Heartbreaking.

The result of any inquest etc will be the standard “lessons have been learned” and absolutely nothing will change for the most vulnerable in society.
Muminabun · 25/08/2020 16:49

I would reserve judgement on this until the details of the case are known.

Julmust · 25/08/2020 16:51

Oh God, who are the 15% who disagree? Confused

Itsjustabitofbanter · 25/08/2020 16:52

How did the mother die though? The way this is written implies she starved to death from lack of money. It doesn’t mention a cause of death though

Good grief. Where is the compassion?

IntermittentParps · 25/08/2020 16:57

Itsjustabitofbanter, she was an asylum seeker, to be accurate/appropriate.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/08/2020 16:58

Me too! Too many facts not known so I am casting no nasturtiums!

CoronaBollox · 25/08/2020 16:59

Welcome to 2020 Great Britain baby, woo.

Agreed. They'd be better to spend the inquest money on direct help for asylum seekers. Poor woman.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/08/2020 16:59

@Itsjustabitofbanter except she wasn't an illegal immigrant, she was an asylum seeker so not appropriate.

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 25/08/2020 17:01

Awful. Poor woman, it's like something from Victorian times

Gancanny · 25/08/2020 17:01

It states in the articles she was living in poverty having lost her job due to her leave to remain being revoked and that she contacted a charity shortly before her death to say that she didn't have enough money to look after herself and her child.

CasuallyMasculine · 25/08/2020 17:02

Me for a start. ‘Illegal immigrant found dead in flat, cause of death unknown’ is more appropriate at this stage.

She was not an illegal immigrant ffs.
