Asylum seeker from Uganda, found dead in a Govan flat after losing her leave to remain and as a result, her job.

I think this is horrific.

It's sad but thousands go without food in the UK

Ok well that makes it all ok then right? FFS

oakleaffy · 25/08/2020 17:22

@nicky7654

It's sad but thousands go without food in the UK. Thousands sleep on street corners and beg for small bits of food and cash. Many turn to alcohol to cope and thousands get absolutely no help from the Government.
So....Basically saying 'F&ck her and her child, as she isn't 'British'?' Farrage would be so proud.
HeronLanyon · 25/08/2020 17:22

She had lost her job (due to leave to remain expiring). Her baby was starving. She had been relying on food from friends and a local food bank. These were in the news story I saw.

It’s absolutely outrageous that our safety net for the most vulnerable most in need allows people to fall through like this.

FTMF30 · 25/08/2020 17:22

Some of these comments make my blood boil. It's as if some people don't realise that a significant reason for us having immigrants is because our country has a long history of ravaging others. You just don't want to face up to it. You're the same lot who stick your fingers in your ears yet get your knickers in a twist at Rule Britannia not being sung at BBC Proms. The entitlement and lack of humanity sickens me.

TwelvetyOClock · 25/08/2020 17:23

It's sad but
It's sad but
It's sad but
No.
There is no scenario in which this is okay. There is no immigration status for which this is acceptable.
Nothing about this is okay.

WorraLiberty · 25/08/2020 17:24

It's heartbreaking and utterly shameful.

m0use · 25/08/2020 17:25

If she had an outstanding asylum claim, she should have been eligible for asylum support (not sure on the age of her son, but around £75-80 a week, plus housing paid for), as well as free prescriptions, dental etc.

I'm curious as to why this individual was relying on charity, and if they were receiving, or had been refused asylum support. Without knowing that, while it's very very sad, I think there's more to the case.

ArabellaScott · 25/08/2020 17:25

This is absolutely fucking heartbreaking. I'm so gutted for this woman, and her poor, poor baby.

recklessruby · 25/08/2020 17:25

Poor woman and her son. I ve read about things like this....in history books from 1875.
What has the UK become? She was an asylum seeker so had already fled from God knows what to die in a supposedly safe country.
2020 government hang your heads in shame.

pretentiousness · 25/08/2020 17:25

Why didn't she go to a food bank? ☹️

oakleaffy · 25/08/2020 17:26

@FTMF30

Same.
Had we not plundered other Countries for goods and wealth, in past centuries, with the 'Empah' {Empire} , it would be a very different story now.

ssd · 25/08/2020 17:26

@FTMF30, I agree. I honestly thought coronavirus was the great leveller. Obviously I was wrong.

Your point being?
IntermittentParps · 25/08/2020 17:26

RunningAway, you actually use the phrase 'asylum system' but in the same breath refer to her as an illegal immigrant. You seem very confused.

ssd · 25/08/2020 17:27

@pretentiousness

Why didn't she go to a food bank? ☹️
Who knows maybe she preferred to die with her helpless baby beside her? Hmm

Jesus wept.

LoseLooseLucy · 25/08/2020 17:28

Absolutely awful and tragic Sad

Pertella · 25/08/2020 17:29

That poor poor woman, so glad her baby was found though.

As for some people on here... what happened in your lives to make you so indifferent and lacking in basic humanity?

Why didn't she go to a food bank?

FFS. She'd had a job, before her right to remain was rescinded. Then she'd relied on the church and food banks. Not exactly playing the system, was she?

She did.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/08/2020 17:31

The child is being looked after now by his father
Where was he before she died?

Has it been said whether the father's nearby? If so, we'll perhaps find out in time where he - and the friends she was said to have been relying on for food - were, if the poor lady was still able to call for help

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/08/2020 17:32

I'm one of the 20% and I volunteer in a food bank, and an extended local charity. So I may have more of an idea than most about the hardship she must have gone through. But the fact remains that nobody here knows what happened... I'll not blame anyone or any organisation until more facts are known.

Pertella · 25/08/2020 17:33

IIRC you can only get so many referal/food bank vouchers anyway?

Arthersleep · 25/08/2020 17:33

Very sad, but not enough is known at this stage. And I don't think that her death should be politicised, or at least not until more is known. For example, did she take her own life? Did she die of natural causes? Was the govt right to refuse her application? What assistance was she given? There's a lot of separate issues to be untangled here. Very sad for her and her baby. And so young too.

loobyloo1234 · 25/08/2020 17:34

She did use foodbanks. It says it on other articles. Obviously just starved her son to death for the fun of it didnt she?

You people need to stick to commenting on Daily Mail articles

GetOffYourHighHorse · 25/08/2020 17:35

It is tragic. Lets wait for the facts including cause of death before blaming the government and the system shall we?
