EarlSinclair · 05/07/2007 18:59

stillhere?

SueBaroo · 05/07/2007 19:00

Do we then agree that school age children cannot be totally shielded from the darker side of life?

-------

I don't think there ever was any disagreement about that. We disagreed about the extent of the shielding that we do use.

SueBaroo · 05/07/2007 19:02

my friend thought Shrek was hilarious. But she's got famously awful taste, so that's a good enough non-recommendation for me.

haychee · 05/07/2007 19:18

it certainly wasnt hilarious, dull and slow i would say! Better to spend the money on some other activity. Sue, can i ask, why have you chosen home schooling?

Twiglett · 05/07/2007 19:19

interestingly my 6 year old year 1 child has been totally shielded from the Madeleine story

and long may that continue

Do you supervise all of your 6yr olds conversations? Have you asked him/her if they know who madeline mccann is? Are you absolutely certain an older child will not tell them? That is my concern, that they may find out in he playground when you are not there to catch the fallout and reassure him/her when they need it most.

Twiglett
can you help me
do you have a nork link. I've been here a while now ( and on many threads so not a troll, a ghoul or a twat) and I am feeling a strange urge whenever nork clasping is mentioned. It seems to offer hope of comfort and support but i cannot be sure that it is not some fetish that I should be avoiding. What is this strange drumming n my head that tis like a call to my soul ( even been on the Dr Who thread)

Can I also make a plea for those of us educated in 'progressive' schools. I am not disinterested but grammar and accurate was actively discouraged. I am regularly tutted at by 14 year old son. I try but it is hard.

haychee · 05/07/2007 19:36

ok. so? i still persue the issue, what happens if a 6yr old finds out from an older kid in the playground?
Why doesnt anyone answer this? why is it ignored? it is important to this discussion,it is a reality that could easily happen.
I know ive repeated it and i apologise for that but im only continuing it because it is concerning especially if you havnt already discussed it with your child.

Twiglett · 05/07/2007 19:36

see my post about 5 posts down from 19:27:10 ... it has the link to the nork clasping pledge in it

Now, you know what a nork is don't you?

I rather like that name for Twiglett 'The Snack' Sounds like an alter-ego superhero ala the fantastic four...

pagwatch · 05/07/2007 19:39

Haychee
but it isn't !
This discussion is about spelling and grammar and newbies.
People are being very nice to each other. Please be very wary of giving the impression that you are desperately looking for another excuse to reharsh your opinions which were repeated ad nauseum to little effect on another thread - which I am sure is NOT what you are doing.

pagwatch · 05/07/2007 19:40

Twiglett
( hangs head in shame )
no - I don't know what a nork is.
I am a forty something mother of three and I have no idea.
I shouldn't really be around people

haychee · 05/07/2007 19:40

sorry i thought this thread was about the shrek madeleine ad. Is it not?
