how come they can neither spell accurately nor use the rules of English Grammar?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 04/07/2007 16:03

It's the punctuation, or lack thereof, that I find appalling. Even more so than the spelling.

It makes me despair of my childrens' future.

BorisofWales · 04/07/2007 16:05

the way they just write whatever is in their head expat without taking a breath or using a comma i dont think they even know what a full stop is it really is frustrating i dont even bother reading posts like this to be honest id rather put my head through the pc screen

expatinscotland · 04/07/2007 16:06

i agree boris then there's the ones who just spew and spew without ever indenting or starting a new paragraph or just ...................................................................................

or even worse !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BorisofWales · 04/07/2007 16:08

I just don't read their posts. I move on until I find one I an understand/be bothered to decipher.

My spelling is not always first rate, but at least I use punctuation.

expatinscotland · 04/07/2007 16:09

I do the same, Boris.

I just can't be bothered when I see a post that just reads like fine newsprint.

Especially because you just know it's drivel.

SueBaroo · 04/07/2007 16:44

perhaps it's because, as newbies, they don't understand that youdon'thavetocrameverythingyouwanttosayinthemessagebox.

expatinscotland · 04/07/2007 16:45

yer all so unsupportive. and all that swearing too.

BellaLasagne · 04/07/2007 16:50

I think all us 'old girls' should run away and set up our own splinter group where we can discuss, sanely, the important issues of the day without these untermenchen clogging up the cyberspace.

There, I've said it.

I'll go away now..........

Coolmama · 04/07/2007 16:51

cruel and heartless, that's us!

RalphWiggum · 04/07/2007 16:55

Oh yes Bella Lasagne, please let's! Our own "little clang" or whatever one of them called it.
I don't mind them joining up because of news stories, I don't desperately mind the txtspk and the appalling grammar, but I do object to the fact that they're mostly fucking idiots.

BellaLasagne · 04/07/2007 17:56

Well said

Maybe we could have a daily spelling and grammar test?

Issy · 04/07/2007 18:07

"It's the punctuation, or lack thereof, that I find appalling. Even more so than the spelling.

It makes me despair of my childrens' future."

Ummm, isn't it "children's"?

[Issy legs it very fast.]

slayerette · 04/07/2007 18:08

Gold star, Issy - go to the top of the class

Issy · 04/07/2007 18:12

We found the same error in a title in this week's school newsletter. Sigh!

Sorry Expat, I've had a very long and very dull day ploughing through swathes of documentation and I needed this tiny outlet.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 04/07/2007 19:04

HOw come Twiggy can start a thread on this and folk laugh along (rightly so ), but when Pan did the self same the other day, he got flamed?

expatinscotland · 04/07/2007 20:06

See what I mean, though, Issy? I come here, and my battle to admit to myself that I honestly cannot look at this screen anymore without making a million errors because I can't see properly due to OLD AGE is made apparent. Every time.

And that's BRILLIANT!

No, 'aw hun don' worry yer beuutiful NEway' doesn't happen.

That's a good thing .

TwoIfBySea · 04/07/2007 21:06

Txt speak? Could that maybe be banned, anytime it has been used in the past I've had to read the message out loud to make sense of it! Or maybe I am just being dim.

I have noticed though that this whole Madeleine McCann story has got some people at fever pitch where they don't really seem to see any sense other than their own outrage.

Maybe forgetting that, never mind the parents or the media cirus, there is still one little girl out there somewhere. It just seems to be going completely out of focus.

FlamingTomatoes · 04/07/2007 21:11

Um Bella - it's Untermenschen.

Oh dear we're a bunch of snobs.

Part of me feels guilty for sneering at people who didn't have the advantages of a decent education, the other half just thinks "FFS, go back to the Sun site, stop clogging up mumsnet with all your exclamation marks and inability to follow an argument."

I'm suffering middle class angst without the benefit of a middle class income and lifestyle. Damn them.

oliveoil · 04/07/2007 21:28

what drives me mad is what boris and expat said earlier whereby they rant on and on usually about stabbing peados if I got my hands on them etc or slitting throats of paedo bastards throw away the key etc and you can not make head nor tail as there are no commas or paragraphs to be seen anywhere and it fair does my head in

agree?

tiredemma · 04/07/2007 21:30

I cant be bothered to read posts when there are no paragraphs. Even if its a really serious thread, it hurts my eyes.

morocco · 04/07/2007 21:31

pmsl twig and expat, I thought you were both taking the piss, better if you hadn't admitted to typos
why are so many people posting all of a sudden then? has passed me by
