OK, so if the water was coming in you wouldn't be on MN...

Just had a call from my mum as water is coming in through the house - there is severe flooding in Lincolnshire. Thought I'd post in case anyone else had family in the area:

I've just rung my parents to warn them off coming to see us on Saturday afternoon. They're in Leicestershire, and we're in Sheffield.

Mentioned that it took a friend very nearly 7 hours to get back from Rotherham on Monday. My Dad's response? "They were on the wrong road".

Unfortunately, my phoning to suggest it's a bad idea is to my father the equivalent of waving a red rag at a bull. A throwing down of the gauntlet, if you will. He just sees it as a challenge that he is man enough to take on.

I did suggest to Mum that she remove a spark plug or something so the car won't start.

you've done what you can - I did the same with my dad when there was thick snow a year or so ago. He insisted on still coming, got his car snowed in and had to ask my 86 year old next door neighbour to dig him out

but he proved he was right and he could get here!!!

purpleturtle · 28/06/2007 19:37

I told Mum to pack provisions and their pillows. I've little doubt that they'll get here, and they might well get back as well, although quite a lot of me would love to be able to say "I told you so"!

He can jolly well sleep on the floor - might learn a lesson in his old age.

nasty round here - warwickshire/worcestershire/gloucestershire. i've got friends from venice coming to stay next week. reckon they'll feel right at home.

just as the water levels were dropping a bit, it absolutely pissed down for most of today. dread to think what the only bridge over the river will be like tomorrow

Travelling from Suffolk to Bristol in the morning - anyone know if the M5 or the M4 are ok? deciding which route to take.

ahundredtimes · 26/07/2007 22:07

I came back from Suffolk on the M4 earlier this week, and all was fine. There was a bit of business around the M5 earlier.
I expect you to blow kisses out the window at the Bath turn off, thank you.
