OK, so if the water was coming in you wouldn't be on MN...

Just had a call from my mum as water is coming in through the house - there is severe flooding in Lincolnshire. Thought I'd post in case anyone else had family in the area:

i'm in Hull too {waves to stgeorge}

my streets not too bad, but all the shops and schools have been closed round here, meant to be be open tommorrow though, phew!! (for the school that is!)

SpookyMadMummy · 26/06/2007 17:58

East Dene. About half a mile from my sisters house.

SaintGeorge · 26/06/2007 18:20

How's the new fridge/freezer doing?

Gingerbear · 26/06/2007 18:24

Guess which numpty decided to go shopping at Meadowhall yesterday?

Luckily I left at half past one and managed to get home before they closed the M1. (Albeit an hour and a half later)

Gingerbear · 26/06/2007 18:25

DD's school was closed today, and the river is very very close to the top of the flood banks (we have no sandbags!!)

Hulababy · 26/06/2007 18:26

Phew GB. Thank goodness you set off early. An hour later and you would have had it!

Water levels still rising in some parts of Sheffield!

j20baby · 26/06/2007 18:28

Hmmm, i got it for my friend, are you tapped into my freecycle account or something

Gingerbear · 26/06/2007 18:34

Are you stranded on the hill hula? I read about you not being able to get to work, in spite of a valiant effort.

A shop assistant in Boots told me that I should head back soon - the M&S part of the carpark had already flooded at 1pm yesterday. And I thought Meadowhall would be a good place to take DS as it was out of the rain!

It lived up to 'Meadowhell' yesterday, especially the snarled up traffic trying to get out.

SaintGeorge · 26/06/2007 18:35

I get the emails J20 and your email address is, err, familiar

PSML - DH headed out on his bike to reccy for emergency supplies about 2 hours ago. He has just returned with:

2 packets of Tuc biscuits.
2 Giant Cadbury's choc bars.
Jumbo bag of Haribo sours.
A 6-pack of lager.

That will keep us going then

smurfgirl · 26/06/2007 18:41

Ooh SG

We were ok, at one point it was under the floorboards but thankfully the rain began to stop, its about ankle length around here now.

My mates had water in their houses.

If

SaintGeorge · 26/06/2007 18:42

Wondered how you did smurf.

Brother's hotel just escaped but they did have a lot of sandbags piled up. Park Avenue was closed. Hope they are still ok, the kids are there.

bozza · 26/06/2007 18:46

joash don't live in Rotherham, but work there - near the Asda so not far from your DD really.

smurfgirl · 26/06/2007 18:50

Oooh its gone right down now, my street is pretty much clear now and Newland looks walkable (well the bit I can see when I look out of my front door...).

U ok? x

SaintGeorge · 26/06/2007 18:54

Feet a bit damp, might have to check for trench foot later

Yeah, we're fine thanks. Glad the kids not here though. And the stench is getting a bit much. Oh and we have to be careful flushing the loo - the drains aren't running properly so the level rises alarmingly. But we have supplies (see list below)

j20baby · 26/06/2007 18:55

send him this way with the Haribo please

Hulababy · 26/06/2007 18:59

LOL GB. Yesd, safe up the hill. Starting to feel really glad that the resevoir at the top of our road was drained last year!

Hulababy · 26/06/2007 19:00

Rain forecast all week

SaintGeorge · 26/06/2007 19:01

Gerroff, the Haribo are mine, all mine I tell you.

j20baby · 26/06/2007 19:04

fine! bit i've got lemon drizzle cake although it has nearly all gone :0

smurfgirl · 26/06/2007 19:06

Your DH sounds so, useful SG.

Nice to get new carpet though?

Anlaby way looked awful on the news and I was thinking of you (whilst wetting myself as the water got closer and closer to my house)!

Apparently the firebrigade were useless?

SaintGeorge · 26/06/2007 19:47

Don't know about the fire brigade but the rescue ambulance and boat have been great.

DH just cut his hand taking carpets up. Can't remember if his tetanus is up to date and the roads still not driveable so will have to be A&E tomorrow, just to be on the safe side.

Local advice now is if you get a dodgy tummy in the next couple of days to get immediate help because of risk of cholera! Bloody charming.

inamuckingfuddle · 26/06/2007 19:51

Hope someone here can help - my parents live in Sheffield, not flooded thank god, but due to come up here (Durham) tomorrow for babysitting duties til friday...they usually come from Broomhill via hillsborough up the A61 to M1 J36 do those of you who are locals think this will be possible? My dad is convinced it'll be fine, but he is the same dad who was prepared to drive my DTs 100 miles with a broken collar bone a few months ago

Hulababy · 26/06/2007 19:55

Think that road is now passable as the water levels have gone down there. It is now the area towards Meadowhall and J33/J34 that are mostly affected.

inamuckingfuddle · 26/06/2007 19:58

Thanks Hulababy, thought it should be ok as mostly high ground, just didn't want them risking themselve in their desperation to see their DGDs, who they haven't seen for oooh, 4 whole weeks!

ChipButty · 26/06/2007 20:07

St George - I'm on Park Avenue!! Waded home from work in Willerby yesterday but couldn't get thru via Chants. Had to chance it under the bridge on Newland to pick my kids up from nursery and wade home. My poor DS (5) was so scared. All okay now, though. Don't know what the water level is like under Chants railway bridge now but was horrendous this morning. My poor Grandma had to be evacuated from her home off Anlaby High Road. How's the mince going down?!
