OK, so if the water was coming in you wouldn't be on MN...

Just had a call from my mum as water is coming in through the house - there is severe flooding in Lincolnshire. Thought I'd post in case anyone else had family in the area:

Spag Bol for tea .

Is your gran Arcon Drive area? Loads evacuated off there, Trinity Homes too. I was going to ask which end of Park Ave but that might sound a bit stalkerish.

We now have a new water feature to add to the lake in the back garden. An artistical (not) arranged pile of carpets on top of the patio table. The musical effect of the dripping water is quite nice

My Grandma is in Arcon Drive. We are inbetween Richmond St and Salisbury Street. Not stalkerish at all - don't worry!!

SaintGeorge · 26/06/2007 20:17

My mum is on Eastfield so not far from your gran.

My brother owns a hotel at the park end of Park.

The mumsnet world gets smaller

ChipButty · 26/06/2007 20:21

Is the hotel up for sale at the mo? My DCs go to the nursery near there.

SaintGeorge · 26/06/2007 20:21

Ooh, just had a thought. My mate lives on that stretch. I wonder........nah, she works in Hessle not Willerby.

hatwoman · 26/06/2007 20:22

anyone know if meadowhall was affected? not entirely convinced that would necessarily be a bad thing...

SaintGeorge · 26/06/2007 20:22

Well they are trying to sell, but I don't know if there is a sign up to be honest. First one you get to at that end of the road.

SaintGeorge · 26/06/2007 20:23

Yes it was hatwoman.

Hulababy · 26/06/2007 20:24

Lower floor of Meadowhall is flooded. Closed today and tomorrow minimum.

smurfgirl · 26/06/2007 20:48

I used to live on Park Ave.

Apparently Newland is pretty clear now.

bozza · 26/06/2007 21:06

Does anyone know if the M1 is likely to re-open tomorrow?

Hulababy · 26/06/2007 21:07

I am hoping so as I have no idea how I will get to work again if not.

bozza · 26/06/2007 21:09

Well I actually get off coming south at J36, but because they had just closed it there there was a real jam this morning. I do have an alternative route but it is country lanes and you never know if one will be blocked.

bilblio · 26/06/2007 21:09

inamuckingfuddle - I've just spoken to my Dad, he lives in Oughtibridge, apparently your Dad would have problems getting to the M1 his normal route because the A61 near Greno woods is still closed.

My first thought was to go through from Hillsborough to Oughtibridge, then Deepcar, pick up the A616 and get onto the M1 from there. Deepcar was flooded yesterday, but looking at the traffic news I can't see it mentioned now so it might be alright.

If Deepcar is still impassible Dad says the best way is going up to Grenoside via Oughtibridge (still difficult as some of the road between Middlewood and Oughtibridge has collapsed into the Don so there's only 1 lane open.) Then from Grenoside head to Wortley, then Penistone and get on the M1 there.
It's a convoluted route, and he'll probably need a good map reader but it'll keep him on the higher ground and avoid the areas still flooded.

Good luck either way.

Sorry to hear some of you have been affected, my parents are quite a way up the hill so no flooding at their house although the village has been quite badly hit. Their power went off at about midday yesterday though. They've been told if it doesn't come on at about 11 tonight then it'll be another 3-4 days.

Hulababy · 26/06/2007 21:10

I keep checking the BBC website - has the road closures on.

This site looks good. Suggests may be repoened at 8am.

I normally get to the M1 at 7:20am, so a bit late for me, but looks like I might get in but later than normal.

bozza · 26/06/2007 21:12

And me! I am normally on it at 7.30 and off it by 7.40.

hatwoman · 26/06/2007 21:12

my mum's house was flooded. just spoken to her and it looks like the damage isn;t as bad as last time. she seems reasonably chipper thank god.

Hulababy · 26/06/2007 21:13

I can't think of an alternative route. I normally go down the Parkway to M1, then onto M18. But couldn't get down Parkway this morning, and then was queuing for hours to get to J31 of M1 via Aston/Swallownest way. And the slip road onto M18 was closed. So didn't stand a chance.

Hulababy · 26/06/2007 21:13

That's the annoyig thing. I only do J33 to J32, which is about 3 miles!

bozza · 26/06/2007 21:17

That is the very worst bit though hula nearest to the reservoir and dam. I do J38 (you know, by the sculpture park) to J36 which is normally an OK stretch. Last night DH couldn't actually get off the M1 and ended up coming through the back of Woolley Edge services!

Hulababy · 26/06/2007 21:45

It is all a nightmare. Let's hope tomorrow brings better travel news. And that the forecast rain holds off.

SpookyMadMummy · 26/06/2007 22:10

Just recieved news from my sister, her power is back on, so hopefully a few more of the 86,000 homes without power in Rotherham can have a hot meal and drink tonight

Hulababy · 26/06/2007 22:10

That's good news. Hope they enjoy a well needed cuppa!

inamuckingfuddle · 26/06/2007 22:12

thanks for that info bilblio, I'll call him in the morning before they leave
