For those of you who are interested - and don't want any arguing - the news update according to Sky

  • police are now looking for a man seen in a white van
  • they have an e-fit of him
  • also want to interview an american who lives locally who owns a white van and hasn't been seen for the last few days

sarahinphuket · 16/05/2007 15:11

hang on I maty be wrong about that MrsSpoon...let me go back and see if I can find it again!

sarahinphuket · 16/05/2007 15:16

not sure if this is it or not!

oliveoil · 16/05/2007 15:19

my theory, right, here me out here, just a thought right, is that some people need to stop over analysing and trying to feel involved in someone elses tragedy as is it ghoulish in the extreme.

whaddya think?

oh but then, maybe I don't know my own mind as I was accused of further down the thread

Wolfgirl · 16/05/2007 15:25

oh for goodness sake yourselves!!! I didnt say it! I dont believe this theory to be true; heck how could it!

someone imparted their thoughts, I ran on the back of it. just talking. not accusing, not blaming, not agreeing.

Maybe I should have used a diff word to GOOD. Or maybe I should just not have responded. Grief you all really do go to town on someone when you dont agree, dont you. like a fox hunt! and as for Mrs McCann reading this thread, do you really think (ooooh now be careful, there lies an invite to think that she would bother herself with MN (as great as it is!)

nailpolish · 16/05/2007 15:26

er yes i do

if she is a mn regular she may visit at some point

maybe not at thsi point in time but later

mumemma · 16/05/2007 15:29

Oh blimey, does it all have to descend into a row again? It seem like everything's ok in the morning and when there's not much news it all descends into speculation, accusations and a big slanging match.

Everyone is frustrated by the 'seeming' lack of progress and it's awful getting to the end of another day without finding her but nothing like as awful as it is for her parents.

Can't we just wait for news and try and post key pieces of information if and when they're available. I think it might also be wise to try and say where they came from as Sky News and the Daily Mail produce a lot of stories but not necessarily genuine news, as they're generally fuelled by speculation from 'experts', family members or vague associates, claiming to be close to the situation/person.

Wolfgirl · 16/05/2007 15:31

well, Im sorry if I offended, again! always putting my foot it in it seems. I think Ive had it with this thread. Ive in no way meant to offend, but I did think that a few folk had agreed that we could use it as a discussion board.

Im gone. but you bet your bottom dollar this thread will continue, and it wont be me bumping it. You guys are too vicious for me. thanks.

littlemissbossy · 16/05/2007 15:40

I'm not vicious
I started this thread. Perhaps if there was more solid information coming through we'd be able to update it as it was set up for. But hey it's ok to speculate, it's only natural for people to discuss and most of what has been in the press is speculation. Let's just hope the latest developments actually come to something... 2 weeks on

Tbh, I do not think that Kate Mccann is likely to come on to mn and read these threads. Really I don?t. And even if she does, the family are already aware that this case hasn?t attracted all positive publicity. Gerry Mccann?s sister-In-law was on 5 live this morning, and while most of the messages read out were supportive, not all were, with some people feeling outraged at the amount of media coverage this has received, the amount of reward offered for the return of one child etc. These are intelligent people, they will know that if in the future they venture on to the internet, they are likely to find negative as well as positive comments. That doesn?t necessarily mean that a thread like this could be a free for all for negative comment, but I think that considering the majority of comments towards the family have been positive, it?s normal that there will be some who say some things that not everyone agrees with. That?s life unfortunately.

I think it?s natural that people speculate. I think the media speculation fuels this though, and if there were no media coverage, this thread would have died a long time ago.

I think most have their own theories, some feel it is appropriate to voice those publically, some don?t. I did suggest earlier that perhaps it would be better to not discuss this at all, but I think there seems to be a general feeling that by not discussing it, Madeleine will slide out of the focus, so I don?t think that people can be told not to discuss, and as there is a lack of update, people will draw their own conclusions.

kookaburra · 16/05/2007 15:57

Kate McCann is a presumably a bit busy at the mo' can't see why on earth she would be on MN. As for the aunt - she's been too busy lobbying parliament for hours today (Why????? to get a soundbite on the news again? wtf can parliament do about it???)
There is a world outsde MN, and on other blogs and in RL there is an awful lot of negative feeling about the activities of the McCann's , but that is censored on MN.

ToughDaddy · 16/05/2007 16:06

people always have horrible things to say about virtually anyone. Have lived half my life in the UK but still amazes me how unkind people can be. Just think what you one would do if one was in the same position.

Dora74 · 16/05/2007 16:35

Toughdaddy..I agree..Iam amazed and saddened at the nasty visious tone of some posts on other sites...this one is tame..I think everyone here on mumsnet feels deeply sad for the parents...but my goodness there are some truly nasty examples of humanity out there who actually want the mccanns locked up for this.
I was on a disney site today and one man had me so angry...he had no compassion at all for the mccanns..some other self rightous b*itch said there would be no crime if the mccans hadn't left their kids....I truly wanted to smash the pC. And i never usually get riled at the internet.
www.disboards.com. Its on the Uk community board.

Dora74 · 16/05/2007 16:36

I 've toned down what they actually said BTW.

i can tell you that I have taken calculated risks with my children and could have had bad fortune. Some of us may have used baby listening services at various family hotels - for what they are worth - without interrupting dinner to check on children but I can tell you that that isn't necessarily any safer than their situation.

God knows they are probably beating themselves up but compassion is the only humane reaction, surely.

pagwatch · 16/05/2007 17:01

hi Dora74
if you really want to see some nastiness you should look at aol community message boards. The ironic thing is that the nastiest stuff is on a UKnews section entitled family life. There is a lot of talk there about trying to get the twins taken into care. Still you can't help but be impressed - what with their being able to scrape their knuckles off the floor to reach the keyboard.....

sarahinphuket · 16/05/2007 17:05

Let's face it, the poor girl could have been taken from her room when her parents were sleeping in the room next door.

I can't believe that there are people on other sites who seriously believe that the McCann twins should be taken into care.

Dora74 · 16/05/2007 17:08

Compassion SHOULD be the only reaction for normal decent people.Even those that do judge them for them for their actions..the vast magority i hope stillfeel desperate for them . But a few truly cold hearted individuals exsist out there..saying the twins should be taken into care??..saying the mccanns should be prosecuted??..I truly truly cannot understand some people..its opened my eyes I can tell you..I want no dealings with people who think this way...because to me it shows them to be scarily lacking in empathy to the point of being evil...i feel THAT strongly about it.

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 16/05/2007 17:10

I have to say I am somewhat baffled by the reasons for setting up a fighting fund. What exactly is it they're raising money for? They had a family member of Madeleine's on the news earlier and she was saying "people said they wanted to do something, well by giving to this it's a good outlet for peoples' emotions" wtf? Sorry but this aspect of it all leaves somewhat of a bad taste for me. I am totally in agreement with setting up a website to publicise Madeleine's disappearance, I totally understand the family's motivation in wanting to distribute as many pictures of Madeleine as possible, the case has had wall-to-wall media coverage, but I think asking the public for money is just wrong. Especially when over £2 m has been pledged in rewards.
