For those of you who are interested - and don't want any arguing - the news update according to Sky

  • police are now looking for a man seen in a white van
  • they have an e-fit of him
  • also want to interview an american who lives locally who owns a white van and hasn't been seen for the last few days
  • reward of £1.5M has been offered by the News of the World

I post on another forum and had mentioned that I was really upset that no so called psychics had come forward with any information.

A long term "friend" from there pm'd me with the link. I have forwarded it to sky news and the news of the world.

May sounds stupid, but hopefully they can forward it to the police and get some more info off him.

I know it probably sounds daft but anything's worth a try eh!

scottish mum's link

toomuchtodo · 12/05/2007 15:32

my dh said only last night he'd consider bringing in a cycic (sp?), it's amazing what some of these people can actually tell you

Scottishmum31 · 12/05/2007 15:34

I actually tried to contact Gordon Smith, the psychic barber, if any of you have seen him, he is absolutely totally amazing and one of the very few I actually believe is genuine.

Unfortunately I can't find anyway of getting to him. I considered going through the Daily Record as he used to do a column for them, but I don't know if he still does.

wildwoman · 12/05/2007 15:36

Just finished reading his latest stuff about where to find her. I know it's silly but God I hope he's genuine

Scottishmum31 · 12/05/2007 15:37

Me too wild woman x

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 12/05/2007 15:38

I'd imagine that if he was genuine he would have got in touch with the police himself rather than just posting his predictions on the internet?

I know in the US the police have been known to use psychics, but I think that many are reluctant to do so because so many of them are fakes.

lissielou · 12/05/2007 15:39

wow, thats a bit spooky!

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 12/05/2007 15:42

are there any instances where a case like this has actually been solved by a psychic?

Scottishmum31 · 12/05/2007 15:49

I just lost a big message :-( grrrr

He says on another part of the site, discussing Osama bin laden, that he no longer bothers contacting authorities as he isn't taken seriously. But others should feel free to pass the info on.

We watch programmes on discovery all the time where psychics have been used to solve crimes, usually in the US though.

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 12/05/2007 15:57

It's difficult though because I'd imagine he would be one in hundreds of so-called psychics that ring up wanting to solve the case, and the police just can't take them all seriously because the majority probably are nutjobs.

loca radio here reported earlier that portuguese media are saying police are close to a breakthrough. didn't ilaborate though.

ThatBeetroot · 12/05/2007 16:00

Sky news have a constant day devoted to this case - but not news to tell.

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 12/05/2007 16:10

sorry but wtf are sky news doing - they're interviewing Madeleine's grandparents atm, and the interviewer mentioned all those who have made appeals eg David Beckham etc and then said "is there anything you would like to say, maybe I can give you the opportunity to say thank you to those people"... wtf. I can almost see the headline now "madeleine's grandparents thank those who have supported them"... aren't they going through enough without the media putting words in their mouthes!

paulaplumpbottom · 12/05/2007 16:25

In the States you find police departments usually use one psychic that they are familiar with. I am sceptical about these sorts of things but they have had some success

hockeypuck · 12/05/2007 16:53

Just having a look at that psychic site. It seems to have the date of 1st February for most of his dreams, I dont think it relates to when he has the dreams. It is just unclear on his site. Is there any proof of when he had the dream because the stamp with the date can easily be falsified.

BigPantsRule · 12/05/2007 16:55

I think the TV show "Medium" (the American one about the mum of 3 girls who "sees" crimes being committed) is based on a real person. Can't remember where I heard that, though....

A British detective from Scotland Yard was being interviewed just now and seems to think that the police should be searching all the properties in the area, on the basis that only those with something to hide will object. He thinks that Madeleine was not abducted but wandered through an unlocked door to the nearby supermarket, from where she was snatched. He thinks there are strong resemblances to the Soham case but is convinced that the answer, good or bad, will be found in the resort or not far away.

Scottishmum31 · 12/05/2007 17:03

Hockeypuck, I see what you mean. I took that to be that the last time the dream drawings were updated was 1st Feb iykwim.

Yes, the tv programme Medium is based on true life, can't remember her name for the life of me, but she seems pretty amazing!

She's got loads of books out which I keep meaning to buy.

ChocolateFace · 12/05/2007 17:07

Big Pants. why does the detective think she wanderedto the supermarket?

paulaplumpbottom · 12/05/2007 17:35

What does he base any of that on?

Cloudhopper · 12/05/2007 17:40

Personally I find that sort of stuff very odd and a tad implausible, but if it helps people in some way then I guess it is harmless?

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 12/05/2007 17:56

I?d imagine that theory must come from the fact the dogs traced her scent to the supermarket and then it was lost, thus implying that she had walked there and was then removed iyswim.

Personally I think the media should let it go now. back off completely and stop reporting on it altogether until there is a conclusion. While I do think keeping this in the news does keep people aware, I think that the media is no longer doing any good. Interviewing the grandparents for the hundredth time, filming the vidules and prayer services, showing those pictures of Kate Mccann. It?s not updating anyone on anything and I think that family should have some privacy now.

BigPantsRule · 12/05/2007 18:25

Paula and Chocolate Face

Sorry - went out for a bit!

When I said the UK detective thought she hadn't been abducted, I meant to say abducted not from the apartment but elsewhere.

His ideas were based on "unofficial" information from police in the area (he seems to have got information that nobody else has), suggesting that the apartment had not actually been broken into and the door had not been locked (you'd think that these details would been easy enough to establish at the time. Though it might explain the long delay in accepting that Madeleine had been abducted.)

The scent was indeed traced to the supermarket but a good sniffer dog would be able to trace a scent even if a child had been carried, so this does not necessarily mean anything.

Regarding psychics, it's unlikely the police would take any notice of them in since Portugal is a Catholic country and the Church frowns on this type of thing. Having said that, I'm Catholic and think that this kind of help has its place provided the person concerned is genuine and has a record of helping the police.
