Apparently Anna Friel has also been harassed by that sleezy Amazon director that had to step down the other day, the one that Rose Mcgowan went to and spoke about her rape to and he told her she was a fantasist dismissed it.

It is at epidemic proportions it seems.

Great article by Ronan Farrow about his father: www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/my-father-woody-allen-danger-892572

OP posts:
CaveMum · 18/10/2017 18:57

I should add, that article is almost a year old. It looks as if Ronan has been trying to blow the whistle on sexual harassment/abuse on Hollywood for some time.

Ronan has been. I believe him and his sister Dylan too. I believe WA is a paedophile.

Kevin Smith has said that he will donate any future profits from his Miramax films to Women in Film, and $2000 a month for the rest of his life if the company falls apart and there are no profits.

www.eonline.com/news/887715/kevin-smith-set-to-donate-future-harvey-weinstein-residuals-to-women-in-film

He says 'My entire career is tied up with the man. It's been a weird fking week. I just wanted to make some fking movies, that's it," Kevin explained in the episode. "That's why I came, that's why I made Clerks. And no fking movie is worth all this. Like, my entire career, fk it, take it. It's wrapped up in something really f--king horrible.'

He says he didn't know. I'd like to believe him, but I'm not sure. I suppose at least he's trying to do something practical to make amends.

Shocking headline:
'Was it rape? I don't think so': Lady Victoria Hervey claims an alleged Harvey Weinstein victim was just 'desperate for attention' in astonishing online tirade (but admits the mogul 'ruled like Hitler' in Hollywood)

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 18/10/2017 23:10

Fucking awful but sadly that's exactly what his defence would use if that particular case got to court (that she went on to have consensual relations with the accused even though she said she felt obligated to submit). She has been absolutely torn apart by the Italian press.

What people tend to forget when they ask victims why they would return to their aggressors is that to a certain extent victims might try to reframe the attack as a survival response or that they have been groomed to allow further abuse to continue or the worst has happened and their self-esteem is shot. Another complainant who alleged raped had further encounters with Wankstain when sent by her agent to other meetings with him had this to say:
''By then I’d just given up. I knew I was powerless and at least I wouldn’t have to do much. I was just a body, young flesh. It wouldn’t take long and no one knew.”
But again you know his lawyer would use that. One of Jonathan King's male victims had the same treatment (''Why did you go back?'')

Samantha Geimer, who was drugged by Roman Polanski and sodomised at 13, repeated again this week that she thought he had served his time (42 days in jail) and the court and media had caused her more pain. She did not want to be seen as a victim - sometimes people take over the narrative to disempower their abuser.

As has been seen, trolls and social media, slut-shaming and victim-blaming...all this has happened to women who report. Predictable and depressing.

In the meantime Marisa Coughlan is the 59th woman to go on record as saying Wankstain propositioned her several times.
Rape has no statute of limitations in the US and sexual assault/historical abuse allegations can still be tried in the UK. Endemic/institutionalised workplace abuse or harassment, bullying or sexual, in this case helps build up a pattern of behaviour but unless lewd behaviour/indecent exposure is prosecuted for the most recent cases, I am not sure what the American authorities can do. In the UK the best case would be that the anonymous complainants are still able to prosecute and banded in one trial rather than separate trials.
I won't hold my breath. Cosby had over 60 complainants.

HadronCollider · 19/10/2017 03:23

Ugh I just read it. How cruel! I take it the victim she is referring to is possibly A.A? That was one of the bravest statements, precisely because people would say shite like this. I was upset reading it, and I'm not a victim. I can't believe another woman would stick it in like this. Maybe she was high when she wrote it. Stupid cow!

InigoTaran · 19/10/2017 08:21

There's so much stuff around women making false accusations, ( which are actually pretty rare ), this case shows actually how few women do report, the courage it takes, and the negative consequences for them in doing so.

However, the #Me Too hashtag may hopefully have lessened the shame and stigma around it a tiny bit?

InigoTaran · 19/10/2017 11:40

This is a great article about how Hollywood treats men and women so differently

www.newsweek.com/does-hollywood-punish-women-kathy-griffin-rose-mcgowan-and-more-claim-687048

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 19/10/2017 12:54

Gorgeous It is sad that Samantha Geimer feels that way. I'm sure it is horrible for her that the case just keeps dragging on (of course if Polanski did the decent thing and just went to jail and served his time the media attention would die down so he's still the abuser even now in my opinion)- and that is also why people don't report because the legal process and media reporting is like another form of assault on top of the first. I thought the victim statement from the woman assaulted by Brock Turner was so brave, brilliantly eloquent and moving and describes how awful a court case is and the impact on her life. She says that when Turner testified she was "revictimized". And that case had witnesses. www.independent.co.uk/news/people/stanford-rape-case-read-the-impact-statement-of-brock-turners-victim-a7222371.html

Wondered if anyone heard Robert Lindsey on Radio 2 yesterday, he was talking about a run-in with HW, confirmed he was a nasty piece of work.

Robert Lindsey has been quite vocal in defending HW victims & described how awfully Molly Ringwald was treated, he stood up for her.

Robert Lindsey said he felt his film career ended after that, even after being cast in Shakespeare in Love he was booted off on HW's say so.

Lotsa I didn't hear Robert Lindsey on Radio 2. I had been wondering if Chris Evans (Radio 2 one, not the actor!) might comment as he has been very pally with HW in the past - I've heard HW on the Breakfast Show several times previously.

Not in any way suggesting that Chris Evans might be involved in any of the allegations, but wonder if he saw any suspicious behaviour/was aware of the rumours, etc.

OP posts:
Lotsawobblybits · 19/10/2017 14:40

Cave Yes - I've heard HW on Chris Evans Breakfast, however, with the value of hindsight it has been a little fawning, but he would give them access to guests I suppose. Didn't realise he was particularly pally though...interesting!

Ugh I just read it. How cruel! I take it the victim she is referring to is possibly A.A?

The comments were made on her Instagram page. I'm not going to link to it here but she names the person she is talking about in terms.

IMHO this is a terrible thing to say. There is also an irony in HER accusing someone of being desperate for attention on a social media site.

HelenaDove · 19/10/2017 16:50

"She has been absolutely torn apart by the Italian press"

Doesnt surprise me in the least. Ive seen first hand what Italian attitudes are to women.

HelenaDove · 19/10/2017 17:03

There are some really good articles in this weeks Grazia.

Including one from Lena Dunham. She basically echoed what a couple of us were saying on the previous thread. She said its just as likely to happen in a fast food restaurant as Hollywood.

IMO there will be some lower level Weinsteins out there who will be saying "fuck me or face Universal Credit"

There is also an article from a male Sunday Telegraph journalist who got shouted and sworn at by Harvey after he had written about how the Weinstein Company was struggling after a string of film flops.

He says that nothing he wrote was inaccurate but that he hasnt written anything about HW since because its not worth the hassle.

He felt intimidated and basically said he understood why women felt they couldnt say anything and he does say that his little encounter was NOTHING compared to what the women went through but he can see why many felt they couldnt say anything.

Some excellent speakers on it. Laura Bates was fantastic.

Some others were infuriating and made me want to smash my radio through the window. Angry
