I just feel so horrendously sad for this little girls family. 7 years old and such a brutal death.

I used to live in York and it always seemed such a safe place!! Horrifying and i heard it was another child who who did it? What an awful tragedy :-(

7 years old. Shes just a baby. Her poor parents and family. It just doesn't bare thinking about. I have to second why is the fact that someone has been arrested for this murder not for discussion.

Horrific. But unlikely to be random.

It's horrific and impossible to imagine what her parents are going through. But I'm with OP - the papers have reported that a 15 year old has been arrested. She is innocent until charged, tried and found guilty. None of those things have happened and I'm really unhappy with jumping the gun and discussing her possible involvement. How do we know that if she is charged one of the jurors isn't on MN?

It's disgusting that anyone could do something so horrific to a child. Poor, poor girl.

We'd seen the news but they didn't release any details other than that a 7 year old had been killed and a 15 year old girl arrested.

Unbelievably sad and dreadfully shocking.

Early reports I read online today said she had been stabbed twice. However, I'm not going to link to anything as it's mainly reporting on the 15 year old. I don't think anyone should be discussing that part, she hasn't been charged, we don't know what happened or who did it. So the reasons pontypan have given are the reasons I agree with.

I just can't get my head round it. Just 7 years old. Seemingly she was in the field/park behind where she lived. It's just bloody awful. Her poor parents.

My first reaction was shock a 15 year old would do that. But really, pontynan and PossumInAPearTree are very right.
Many people have been arrested and had no charges at all. Many people have been charged but have gone to court and evidence has shown they're innocent.
We should not judge.
It is supposed to be innocent til proven guilty, but most of the time in society it's guilty til proven innocent. Usually I do remind myself of that too. I think I just got caught up in how horrific it is that somebody, a child, has been murdered.

What are you hoping to achieve with a thread like this?

I just wonder what on earth is going on these days.

We are one of the richest countries in the world. Our standard of living is high in a global context. We have a free to access education system. We make astonishing discoveries in science, write some of the best literature of the modern age ...

But we don't seem to be able to prevent the killings of children or young people on our streets.

It's just ridiculous.
