Cannot believe that a 7 year old girl has been stabbed to death.

MycatsaPirate · 10/01/2017 18:42

Katie, aged 7 was stabbed to death in the street.

I know someone has been arrested (and that's not for discussion)

I just feel so horrendously sad for this little girls family. 7 years old and such a brutal death.

Heartbreaking.

That poor family. I cannot imagine how horrific it must be for them.

AtSea1979 · 10/01/2017 20:11

The above is from news and star, I'm not familiar with that one so I will wait until BBC have any more on it. Though like someone said there's a fine line between concern and picking over it.

Trainspotting1984 · 10/01/2017 20:13

MNHq will delete anything they get reports about. It doesn't mean they believe the responses are prejudicing a potential trial. Posters just like to say that to be dramatic. Prejudicing a trial is quite a specific action and discussing news in the public domain doesn't come close

ChunkyPunky · 10/01/2017 20:14

Yep Eats That's exactly what I'm seeing posted on my timeline and now also in response to local news articles. Click on the link Half at the top of Eat's post to the news site. Horrible if true.

News & Star is simply a local northern newspaper.

Odd that the relationship has been reported, in the light of the recent Lincoln case.

Cherryskypie · 10/01/2017 20:20

Naming the girl? Like, starting a thread that has posts on it identifying the girl?

EatsShitAndLeaves · 10/01/2017 20:30

Bibbity - there may be a clamp down on reporting that comes into force following any charges.

In the Lincoln case it was notable that certain information on the family reported in early news reports was edited out in later updates.

In the meantime, it's public information.

I don't advocate speculation on why it happened.

I do feel incredibly sad for the parents.

Northernlurker · 10/01/2017 20:30

This is local to me. I can see why the op started the thread. It's a very shocking case.
It's completely plain what the situation is if you read between the lines of some of the national media reports. I can't believe this has happened here.

MsGameandWatch · 10/01/2017 20:38

Kodjo Jenga - remember him? Was stabbed on my street before I moved. If I had looked out of my kitchen windows at the time I would have seen it. Last week a 14 year was stabbed in my local park, he is in hospital in critical condition right now. A long time friend's 15 year old cousin was stabbed a few years ago and died.

I am terrified of my children going out alone, I have a teenage boy and a girl approaching that age. All it takes is one wrong word or look and I live in one of the wealthiest and supposedly sought after areas in the U.K. A police officer once told me that there is a HUGE difference between the streets and parks I as a adult in my thirties walk in and the ones young teenagers are walking in even though they're the same locations. He said it's like a war zone for some of them. That really stayed with me.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 10/01/2017 20:39

Hi Northern I'm a local too. Poor little girl. So sad. I also can't believe it happened here. This is such a lovely city and it feels so safe.

ChunkyPunky · 10/01/2017 20:39

Cherry no one here has named the girl, and I think it is clear that wasn't the OP's intent in starting this thread, but if a legitimate news website has subsequently published the relationship between the victim and alleged perpetrator online where everyone can see it, presumably with the agreement with the police, then it will be a matter for discussion on every web forum.

Bragadocia · 10/01/2017 20:40

I don't understand why the reports I read this morning (BBC and I think Guardian) stated the relationship between the victim and alleged perpetrator. This info appears, rightly, to have now been removed from their sites. Surely the broadsheets and Beeb are accustomed to the protocols of reporting crime in a way that won't prejudice a trial - you'd think they might have a handle on this after a century or so of doing it.

Bragadocia · 10/01/2017 20:41

Actually it might have been Independent or Telegraph, not Guardian, but it was certainly a mainstream, traditional news source.

AddictedtoLovely · 10/01/2017 20:42

Just heartbreaking😢

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 10/01/2017 20:43

MNHq will delete anything they get reports about

No they don't. I have been here many years and reported many posts. Some get dated. Some don't.

1Horatio I was just surprised as it's not something I have heard about often and just wouldn't occur to me that my you get children could be in danger of being stabbed in the street. I worry about them being abducted, getting run over, having an accident like falling out of a tree or off a wall.
I wasn't saying it doesn't happen, just that it's not something I would expect.

EatsShitAndLeaves · 10/01/2017 20:59

My initial post will (and should) be deleted if reporting restrictions are imposed.

However as stands it's simply (hugely tragic) public domain information that's been published on a number of news sites.

AuntieStella · 10/01/2017 21:01

An early report in The Telegraph described what was then understood about a connection between Katie and the detained teenager. It has since been removed and not repeated elsewhere.

So either it was wrong, or it is something that cannot be reported for legal reasons.

Why are we not allowed to speculate?
