Cannot believe that a 7 year old girl has been stabbed to death.

Katie, aged 7 was stabbed to death in the street.

I know someone has been arrested (and that's not for discussion)

I just feel so horrendously sad for this little girls family. 7 years old and such a brutal death.

Heartbreaking.

I agree, innocent until proven guilty,

But I guess with crimes like this it's human nature to wonder... especially why?!

At least in my case.

A 7yo? What the heck did she know or her family do? Poor baby :(

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 10/01/2017 19:15

I hope the family of either of the girls isn't on MN... There is a fine line between genuine sympathy and picking over details

UnicornButtplug · 10/01/2017 19:16

I haven't seen anything about this so off to Google but must say I am shocked, it is just not something that I worry about happening to my young children! Teens yes but primary age children just doesn't enter my mind.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/01/2017 19:16

Why does the news report arrests, then. Why not wait until actual charges are brought, because People will speculate and talk. Its human nature.

1horatio · 10/01/2017 19:17

Why wouldn't they enter your mind?

I mean, they are one of the easiest targets.

I'm not saying I'm not shocked or incredibly saddened by it. I just don't really get that comment, unicorn.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 10/01/2017 19:18

I think people need to be careful legally here. No one has yet been found guilty. Nor have all the details been released.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 10/01/2017 19:18

OP, why don't you ask MNHQ to move this thread to the new ghouls crime topic?

QueenMortificado · 10/01/2017 19:19

It is so sad and awful, but I agree with making sure there is no speculation

Atm it's just a real tragedy

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 10/01/2017 19:21

Of course the main priority is Katie's family, but. I also feel sorry for the parents of the young girl in.custody.
They must be going out of their minds at the fact their daughter could be charged with such a henious crime.

MycatsaPirate · 10/01/2017 19:23

luna I don't aim to achieve anything with posting this. There's nothing to achieve.

I just feel quite shocked and saddened that a 7 year old has been attacked and murdered in the street in broad daylight.

I've let my dc out to play, especially after school and were full of energy. I've seen the aerial shots of where the girl lived and the surrounding area, it's lovely. Nice houses, huge fields, lots of space to play safely to burn off energy with no worry about cars. I wouldn't have thought twice about letting mine out to play there. I just can't imagine the horror this girls family are going through.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for being so sensible regarding speculation about the person who has been arrested, innocent until proven guilty and all that. We might whizz back and remove a couple of posts, but fear not, no one has done anything terrible as such.
Awful case, though. Sends shivers down all of our spines, absolutely horrific. Just let's not discuss the person arrested until the trial.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 10/01/2017 19:25

It just seems a little ghoulish

MycatsaPirate · 10/01/2017 19:26

1horatio Maybe a 7 year old is an 'easy target' but surely not the most logical?

I have never heard of a child being attacked and murdered like this before. By an adult with dubious intentions yes, but this is just a whole new level of scary for parents with young dc.

I agree, it's normally teens you worry about with regards to street violence. But where this family live and the age of their daughter, it probably never once occurred to them that this would be a possibility. Why would it?

livia You can call it ghoulish if you want. I think that it's something most parents will be thinking about tonight after hearing the news.

I have never heard of a child being attacked and murdered like this before.

There have been high profile cases before.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 10/01/2017 19:29

Thinking about, yes. Speculating and discussing on a public forum? That's ghoulish

PUGaLUGS · 10/01/2017 19:30

It's just so bloody awful.

FATEdestiny · 10/01/2017 19:31

Do the victim and the person arrested know each other?

Crunchymum · 10/01/2017 19:32

Absolutely awful.

When I first heard the news today (15yo arrested in connection with death of 7yo) I assumed an awful accident or something like that.

BBC were reporting it as a "stabbing" an hour ago but any mention of that has been removed now.

ColdTeaAgain · 10/01/2017 19:32

It's horrific. Seven is still so small Sad

TheLastDrop · 10/01/2017 19:33

But we don't seem to be able to prevent the killings of children or young people on our streets

Most child murders are committed by people known to them, there was an 8 year old girl stabbed in her own home in a very affluent part of Edinburgh last month by, it appears, the mother. Last news report said she was critical and nothing since. It dropped off the news very quickly and I'm not even sure if she survived or not. Probably no more details until trial as will no doubt be the case here. Poor girl.

UserOne · 10/01/2017 19:34

True. And also that their sister/daughter/cousin was capable of it. You'd never think somebody from your family or friends would do something like that. Anytime anything horrific happens, people who knew them are always shocked that they did it. And how conflicted they'd feel about the severity of the crime vs supporting one they love.

1horatio I think it's more of a shock for some people because they're just so innocent. Teens sometimes mess up, hang with the wrong people, make bad decisions, make decisions that can change their lives, and younger kids usually don't know anything about all that. They're still playing with their toys, while teens are out and about on their own and you don't always know who with.
It's very shocking when it happens to teens too though. You just don't expect it for anybody, let alone any young person or child.

This is so dreadful. For everybody involved. That poor child's family. If it is true that the mother saw it, God, I don't even want to think... Awful.
I have been thinking about it all day. Just so tragic. She's just 7! Not even started thinking about secondary school or anything. Just starting life still. Just a little baby SadSadSad

Soubriquet · 10/01/2017 19:35

That poor girl

And her family of course

What a horrible thing to happen.

Thornyrose7 · 10/01/2017 19:36

I think people just want to express their horror and sorrow, Luna.

randomeragain · 10/01/2017 19:38

thanks folks whoever reported me....the point I was trying to make is (a) it is terrible beyond comprehension (b) some young people are unwell and possibly not getting the help they need.

We don't know, nobody knows anything at this stage.
