Transgender pupil wins right to wear girls uniform

I think it is absolutely right that a school pupil of whichever sex can wear the traditional uniform of either sex.

However, I am slightly more concerned that this individual has also been granted the right to use toilet and changing facilities of the opposite sex - this bothers me as these areas are sex segregated for good reason Sad

This is in the UK btw.

Thank you for sharing your experience Shins Flowers

Sadly your experience is not unusual (there is a thread with 100s of posts discussing posters sexual assults by men) and is exactly the reason women have the right to female only spaces.

Why anyone would consider jeopardising women and girls safety is beyond me.
Those who say we are transphobic are so caught up in being "right on" they cannot see the danger.

TW who has had below the waist surgery poses no more threat to a woman than another women.
Man with a penis who decides he is a woman poses a great threat to women because all rapists have a penis.

The danger is not TW in female spaces the danger is changing the law so that any man can say he is a women and use female spaces.

I am Spartacus.

One thing i have noticed on these threads

is that even the most ardent "people can identify as whatever they want and access all womens spaces" posters don't look at a picture of daniel and say "absolutely no problem there, they should be able to access womens sports, womens achievements, womens experiences, womens spaces, womens awards and womens changing rooms"

BertrandRussell · 21/10/2016 08:15

I'm presuming that the "you are whatever you say you are" people have now let the thread because of all the vile transphobia on it? They are shocked at the unkindness and bigotry, and all the hatred and aggression towards transpeople being displayed?

Horsegirl1 · 21/10/2016 08:23

I know a 14 year old transgendered. She now wears girls uniform.amd showers and chages with all the other girls. This is up north and the school have supported the whole family through transition

IzzyIsBusy · 21/10/2016 08:27

I would swiftly be removing my DD from that school Horse

ApplesinmyPocket · 21/10/2016 08:31

That's not great for the "other girls" is it?

Other girls. Angry

StealthPolarBear · 21/10/2016 08:55

" women are blamed for being assaulted and told to avoid putting themselves at risk.
However in the case of female spaces we are told this is no big deal, men are barely a risk"

Brilliant point.

There is a trans young person at my kids school. They use individual toilets and changing facilities. Neither the young person or their parents have asked for them to use the facilities of the sex they believe they belong to.

No one has written to the newspapers. There are no petitions. The pupil wears the same school uniform as everyone else . There is no fuss, they just get on with their education. They are not seen as some kind of hero or celebrity , most of the other young people just see them as a bit sad / confused. Much like they view the kids who have eating disorders or are vocal about their self harming behaviour .

Would it surprise you to know that this pupil is a FtT?

2kids2dogsnosense · 21/10/2016 10:10

No - Kristina - FtM transgenders don't seem to get either the publicity or the braying support that MtF do - or do they seem to feel that they need it.

Or is it that having been brought up female during his early life, he has recognised the rights of others as being at least equal to his own, and doesn't have the huge sense of entitlement or need to be the centre of attention that some MtF transgenders do?

Kr1stina · 21/10/2016 13:24

Indeed 2 kids, a noticeable lack of male entitlement.

It will be interesting to see what happens if our school has a MtT pupil, as we have a large Muslim population . The community won't be too happy with a person with a penis in the girls shower rooms, even if they really REALLY feel female.

And they may not be silenced by the usual name calling and guilt tripping that seems to works on white middle class liberal parents.

2kids2dogsnosense · 21/10/2016 16:45

Now, Kr1stina - that 6would6 be interesting . . .

noeffingidea · 21/10/2016 17:39

Kr1stina gosh that would be a dilemma for the SJW's. Transgender vs Muslim. Who to back. I expect some of them would spontaneously combust trying to decide.

Thefishewife · 21/10/2016 17:46

Sorry I have two girls and I would nit stand for a make changing with my daughters and I would take it futher as well

Women's rights always get trumped literally by men😢

snyder1994 · 27/12/2016 13:09

I think she should use the gender neutral bathroom.

hackmum · 27/12/2016 13:30

I have often wondered when we're going to see a clash between transgender "rights" and Muslim sensibilities. There's a type of left-wing, liberal-minded person* who bandies around the words "transphobic" and "Islamophobic" like there's no tomorrow. If they have to choose who to back in a straight fight, I imagine they'll explode.

  • I speak as a lefty liberal.
hackmum · 27/12/2016 13:31

Should have read more carefully - I see noeffingidea has already made that point!

CoteDAzur · 27/12/2016 13:42

"isn't that awfully like saying a disabled person, or a black person should use different facilities? Their bodies are different too. "

Is it news to you that disabled people have their own toilets and that non-disabled people should not use them?

Toilets are separated according to sex (male/female) not according to gender (how feminine/masculine one feels) and so yes, male people should go to the male toilet regardless of whether or not they like skirts, makeup, whatever.

Toilets are not separated according to race, so black/white separation isn't going to happen.

MistresssIggi · 27/12/2016 13:45

I have sat in a room while a speaker from an LGBT organisation told us that if anyone objected to a mtt student using the girls toilet they needed to look at their own issues - they could use the disabled ones. The atmosphere in the room was such I did not feel I could ask the basic question of why, if having a cubicle was all anyone needed for privacy (as he suggested), did we ever divide toilets into male and female at all?
